I should have thought about this earlier. I song perfect for New Years is: Same Old Lange Syne by Dan Fogelberg. You would love a lot of his music. Such a beautiful voice. Sadly he passed away in 2007. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QJixl6cWR-I.html
Happy New Year!!! "We Didn't Start the Fire"!!!--Billy Joel......Official Video Billy Joel - We Didn't Start the Fire (Official Video) - RU-vid....after you watch this you'll want to see the lyric video!! Stay safe....all the best....Paul
It wasn’t one of his most popular songs prob because it’s a song that doesn’t really have a “hook”. I think that’s why I like it so much. It’s not trying to appeal on that level, just something straight from the heart.
Billy's a great storyteller. Some of his best stories are..."Goodnight Saigon"..."New York State of Mind"...The Downeaster Alexa".."Scenes From An Italian Restaurant"...The man is a genius.💙🌿💚
I second all these songs ... Jamel will love the lyrics to most all of Billy’s music ... one of the greatest singer / songwriters ever heard by the human ears and touches the spirit of humanity great picks all 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💯
Few songs make me cry like this one. “Every time I’ve held a rose/it seems I’ve only felt the thorns.” Man, that cuts deep. “If my silence l made you leave/then that would be my worst mistake.” I’m in a puddle. “You can have this heart to break.” When love ends and you know it. The pain is gonna flood in. Have to let it in.
Anytime I want to cry about something that's not about me, I got to this song. Crying can sometimes get the emotional out quickly so you can deal with it. Once comfronted with these emotions you can start to deal with them in a more quick manor.
So many great songs. An awesome song he did live in New York would be "Until The Night" which he dedicates to the Righteous Brothers, especially as he wrote and sang it in the same style as their "You Lost that Loving Feeling". The songs and the lyrics of Until the Night is all Billy's. He just borrowed their style of singing as Billy admits he gets tired of his own voice. So definitely a must reaction song.
So, check this out... One of the greatest gifts I've ever received was when I turned 21. My closest friend from music school bought me EVERY Billy Joel album... all on vinyl !
Oh, "An Innocent Man." Ladies, if you really want to know what men think and how they feel, listen to a lot of Billy Joel songs. He expresses it as beautifully and as plainly as any songwriter I ever heard.
the 7 best-selling music artists of all time by album sales: The Beatles - 183 million units. Garth Brooks - 156 million units. ... Elvis Presley - 146.5 million units. ... Eagles - 120 million units. ... Led Zeppelin - 111.5 million units. ... Billy Joel - 84.5 million units. ... Michael Jackson - 84 million units.
@@kennet7837 i had to dig around because the article i looked at was garbage at citing where they'd pulled those stats from, but yes, they were using billboard stats which are US only.
Honesty, Piano Man, the Stranger, Vienna etc etc etc. So many. I saw him at Madison Square Garden last year and he is so awesome. He's a true NY guy tough but loving. He only did 4 encores but the guy was sick that night!
The first time I heard this song, it made me cry, It just struck a cord with me and I cried. That's a powerful song. One of my many favorites by him. He's a great artist. I remember the first time I heard him in the 70's he blew me away, and still does, he is beyond talented.
23 years. That's how long it's been since I've had love. Feels like that was another life. Another person. This song is so relatable. More than any other song that deals with a broken heart and loss.
This would be my favorite Billy melody had he not written "Goodnight My Angel" for his next (and last) album. Beautiful...You should (if you can get it to stay up) react to that, too. It's a lullaby. I don't even have kids and it melts me into a puddle on the floor...
He's such a master storyteller. A Matter of Trust, All About Soul, and Downeaster Alexa are all great songs. (but they're all great!) Downeaster Alexa is about the plight of fishermen who try to keep their family surviving when there are fewer and fewer fish to catch. (And the name of the boat is named after his daughter Alexa.)
I hope you'll check out "Tell Her About It," "Uptown Girl" and "A Matter of Trust" soon. Very few are in Billy Joel's class of brilliant singer/songwriters.
A hauntingly beautiful love ballad by one of The 20th century's greatest singer songwriters. Up there with "Just the way you are", & "I've loved these days" . . .
So many people retreat to their sanctuary-room in their hearts after heartbreak; to allow a new person into that sanctuary and retain an open heart is courage. A song that so well describes the interior life, human spirit. Probably his best.
Love this song. It's not well known, but it sure is beautiful. BTW the phrase "So it goes..." became a part of popular culture because of the writer Kurt Vonnegut, whose books were wildly popular in the 1970s. He used it like a refrain in the novel "The Slaughterhouse Five," and it became such a thing that his biography is called, "And So It Goes." I'm sure that Billy Joel was aware of this when he wrote the song.
I can't say I love every song Billy Joel sings, but he is an amazing artist, and his concerts are wonderful. A very "you are sitting in the artist living room and he's just jamming" vibe. Been to three concerts of his in the last few years, and I'll go again (post-covid) any time he's within a few hundred miles of me.
Dont ever say the name “Mr. Video” and think that dude does the same thing you do. I watch his shit, I’m not even gonna lie. But what you do is very different and hand to God man I appreciate the hell outta both of y’all. Your shit is singularly phenomenal, especially in the context of other folks in the “reaction” game.
Jamel - I love this song... I'm in tears here...... It really is great the way he gets back so much love from the audience. Just wonderful, Nothing more needs to be said. Keep on Rocking man.
Great video as always! I really recommend "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant", "Captain Jack" or "The Stranger" next. Or if you want more of a deep cut you should react to a song from his third album like "Weekend Song" or maybe a deep cut from his more popular albums like "Sleeping with the Television on" or "Laura". Happy new year!!
Stranger is one of the very greatest pieces of American Art as anything done before Billy was heavily influenced by the Beatles ... who the hell wasn’t ??? They lead the way paved the road to today .... but billy was right behind them and carried on the tradition of this real life art form ... the form of music and lyrics that expands the conscience and touches the soul between Lennon and McCartney , Stevie wonder and billy Joel are the greatest painters of melody , lyrical genius and story telling of the 21 st century they and many more are the beetoven , Bach’s, Strauss , motzart , Debussy , musorsky , Copeland’s of our time ... Humanity is soooo blessed by the sharing of their souls 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇬🇧
Like many of the others, this is my favorite Billy Joel song. One of my roommates left the cassette of this album behind when he moved out. He didn’t want it back so I got to discover this track as I listened to the album.
I wanted to see how the younger crowd reacted to Billy Joel "And So it Goes". You can of course trust Jamel to feel the music, get the meaning, and give what is a fantastic song it's due respect. Thanks as always Jamel...
So simple & pure. Thank you. “When music becomes poetry.” I’ve never thought of it that way. Happy New Year. Cheers 🥂 And let’s keep great music alive 2021!
Poetry indeed! The first time I heard this song was during the TV show Boston Legal and I knew it was Billy immediately and was absolutely blown away! It has been one of my favorite songs ever since.
This so by has such a meaningful memory to me, this song was the last piece that me and my amazing orchestra family played for our teacher who is leaving later this year. He started to tear up when we all gathered in a big hug and thanked him countlessly for being the most amazing person I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting!!😊😥
Billy hits the bulls eye with this deeply moving love song. Thankfully he was not silent and shared his sadness by writing this song. By repeatedly performing it to his adoring fans, he was healed. Fan power!.
TY for sharing this with us, I have enjoyed this heart felt and honest song so much for years and now you have joined us all..Billy Joel writes some beautiful story songs as I call them, ones with a certain feel that we all have felt in our lives. Another of his to check out is "Leningrad" written about a man he meet in Moscow who was a clown with The Great Moscow Circus it is stunningly beautiful in its words..Keep Safe Keep Strong Happy 2021
The man from what I was told does not tour anymore but once a month he sells out Madison square garden for his New York family ! Sells it out every time once a month ! He can still bring them in I wish I would have seen him live he is one of my favorites !
"How will I ever trust again?" After my first marriage blew up, then a string of bad relationships, my tattoo artist had to refuse my request for my next one: a cracked stone heart wrapped in chains and padlocks, and a banner reading "CLOSED FOR REPAIRS." He talked me out of it. Then I met my wife.
