Hey Jamel, brother Billy Joel was in a band before being well known called Atilla. Please react to Atilla-Wonder Woman from 1970,it sounds a bit Led Zeppelin ish
Hey Jamel notice how this tune has the 10CC "I'm Not In Love" ooh's and aah's sound going in the background during some sections of the song. (edit) and the song's over and you mention this, but can't place the song.
Peace to you Jamel. I hope you soon discover his (perhaps) best song entitled And So it Goes even if you can’t upload it. Any playlist without it seems incomplete. ✌️
Perhaps but the biggest difference between them and Billy Joel every song on every album is a hit opposed to the other guys only had one maybe two good songs from each album
@@salsaucedo The difference is, Billy Joel was more American pop which is perfect for the radio format. Bowie was much more accepted and popular in other parts of the world, had cult fans in the US and didn't really become recognized by most in the US until he went mainstream for a short while in the 80's with Let's Dance, China Girl...etc. Most of his music did not fit the US radio format, but he had many "hits" in Europe, Asia, S America and Australia for many years. Billy Joel played only one genre of music, while each Bowie album was completely different than every other so he was difficult to categorize. So Bowie didn't have "hits" like Billy Joel, but most will agree his first 10 or so albums you can play right through without skipping, as the songs are all really good. The one or two songs you refer to are just the ones you are familiar with.
@@NSHM122 Exactly; and "Hits" aren't the true measure of the quality of the music..In fact, Hits are usually toe-tappers aimed to please those who aren't the most discriminating......"Hits" (the least controversial or "easiest to digest") are designed to get you to buy the album, then when you get it home (old days) many times you discover that the hits are your least favorite songs, and the real gems lie within.
@@sjd5750 I don't want to take away from Billy Joel, he's definitely very talented and can write some great songs, but even with his songs, the ones I like the most are the lesser known ones. I've been a Bowie and Elton fan for many decades and I find that I skip the more radio played "toe tappers" when I pay their albums. Toe tapper = 3 to 4 minutes long, with a verse, chorus, verse, bridge then chorus format.
@@beatlebrian4404 Yeah, Billy said that he watched The Beatles live on their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show and that was his inspiration to become a musician.
Always a Woman was written about the woman who, with the help of her brother, stole most of Billy Joel's wealth. Billy once referred to the Webers as the Borgias.
@@otisdylan9532 Very true Otis. In my view the mark of a great songwriter is the number of so called "standards" they manage to write. Lennon/McCartney and Dylan have each written dozens and Joel has at least half a dozen to his name: New York State of Mind Just the Way You Are Until the Night Piano Man An Innocent Man She's Always A Woman Much underrated and a new album long overdue...nothing new for nearly 30 years and fans are starting to petition him, would you believe!!!
@@WilliamCWayne Are you sure? That's getting on for an average song length of 13 minutes. The longest Billy Joel tracks I can think of are in the 7-8 minute range (Italian Restaurant, Captain Jack and Goodnight Saigon).
I'm not sure, but I think a person had to live in New York for a while to really get this song. How could anyone else understand wanting The Daily News.
Jamal This is Billy Joel at his Finest and his career was on the cusp of Notoriety and this was 1977!!He is a Master Craftsman and I am Very PROUD to be one of His Loyal Fans.I am in the same voice range as Him and I Love Singing His Songs.Im glad that You enjoyed this piece of 1970's Nostalgia.Cheers Brother!
Billy is a hell of an entertainer and that's coming from a metal head. I got dragged to see him once thinking I would hate every minute but ended up becoming a life long fan. Actually had tickets to see him in Sept.. thanks Covid
This man changed my life. I had serious family issues and whenever I put his albums on, everything was O.K for those glorious few minutes. I saw him in 1978 and 38 years later brought my grown children to see him at Wrigley Field. It was hard not to cry, but they were happy tears because life has a way of coming back around and I have music to thank for that...especially my man, Mr. Billy Joel
A lot of babies were made to this song! "Just the Way You Are" garnered the two biggest Grammy Awards of 1979 -- for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
This song is kind of a passive/ aggressive put down. You ain't all that great ... but I like you anyway. Great song for our modern day low expectations society, if you can't jump that high we'll just lower the bar for ya.
Hey Jamel! For Billy Joel, please react to "Scenes From an Italian Restaurant". Billy is a wonderful storyteller and that song is a real journey. I'd also suggest "Moving Out". Billy's early records had such a NY vibe. Listening to him is like listening to an old neighborhood friend I knew from back in the day. 😊 ✌🏽 out!
When saxophone music still meant something to the general listening public. One of the greatest saxophone leads. Catching this a couple years late but a fabulous reaction...has there ever been a not- fabulous reaction? No, says I.
I love how Jazz legend Phil Woods was in the studio next to Billy when this was being recorded, and when passing by he heard the track and asked to play on it! Magic!!
Best reaction to Billy Joel I've ever seen. And, I've loved his music since I was one yr old - before I could talk. Raised on Billy Joel - glad for it.
I just realized. Jamel, I choose your reacting channel because I feel like you’re really into it, but more importantly, you know music. Even just the fact that you wait until the first chorus is done to pause, is something that not everyone out there can find. I much appreciate that about your work 😊
This is one of my favorite Billy Joel songs ❤️ I was fortunate enough to see him live in concert this year in my hometown of Rochester, NY. Truly amazing live!! Just a beautiful artist 👌🏼
If he can, Jamel should watch the live version. Amazing to see Billy banging the keys on this one! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XUp9RuUSdvM.html&ab_channel=billyjoelVEVO
IF I tried to name my favorite 3 Billy Joel songs, I'd get into a fight with myself... He's that good... has that much material. This rabbit hole is deeeep.
Mm-mm-mm-m-mm... Love me some Billy Joel! Another lifetime favorite here! He is another great from the era of singer/songwriters that we took for granted! If you ever get to see him in concert, please do so, he is still amazing live!
Seeing Billy Joel has been on my bucketlist forever, I finally got to see him live at Diamondback stadium in 2017, did not disappoint. Amazing performance,
Hands down... I am a bitter younger than most Billy Joel fans, but when I was 16 (around 2001), while the other kids were listening to the latest rock/pop, I was listening to The Stranger everyday on repeat 🙂 It shaped my teenage years. ❤
I highly recommend going to one of his concerts if you ever have the chance. He is a true showman and entertainer. When I saw him he got off the piano bench, crawled up on top of the grand piano on his stomach with this head and hands hanging over the keyboards and played it that way for part of the song (that's essentially playing the keys with the hands switched).
Billy Joel wrote some of the best lyrics. Now, in my old age, it’s become “ I want you how you once were, and how you are now.” A person never stays the same, life happens and changes things.
Good morning friends! ❤️ I saw Billy Joel in concert with Elton John many years ago. I had seats that overlooked both pianos. Watching those two play and sing was magical.
Hey Jamel! that's the incomparable Phil Woods on alto sax. What a sound that man got out of the alto, very rare to get that kind of full bodied tone. A Giant in the jazz world.
This is a great album. "Moving Out", "The Stranger", "Vienna", and, "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant." Same with Billy's album, "Glass Houses." Track after track pure gold. ✌
Hey Jamel, thank you so much in reviewing such artist as Billy Joel along a slew of Black & White entertainers. You are a class act for your honesty and sincerity. This comes from a 71 year old white guy and you are proving that we can all get along regardless of our race/colour. Bless you sir.
Billy Joel was the romance sound track of the late seventies, early eighties. This Night, She's Always a Woman, The Longest Time, She's Got A Way are all classic! Thank You!
You had to be a Big Shot ... by Billy Joel .. so many great songs. Saw him in concert in the early 90s and he was great, great, great. He had such fun playing live.
Jamel, I think the song you're remembering is "I'm Not in Love" by 10cc. They both have that multi-tone "ahhhhh" being sung in the background. Billy Joel's catalog is deep. "Summer Highland Falls" is an early gem.
Thanks for this Jamel - check out Uptown Girl, Scenes From An Italian Restaurant, Only The Good Die Young, Big Shot - all very popular, really fun songs of his. Relationship songs would be Honesty, She's Always A Woman, She's Got A Way. An INCREDIBLE serious war song is Goodnight Saigon, you'll be in tears as with the Johnny Cash Hurt song you reacted to.
Billy's most magical and beautiful among many greats, IMHO. The first song that introduced me a snot nosed kid to Billy. He is so talented! This one just takes me away. And, oh yeah. let's give some props to the sax player on this. Whoa!
I am an old man now at 49. But I'm a huge music fan. . I have to thank my parents I sat with them and. I watched a Billy Joel concert on TV when I was maybe seven years old. That got me hooked on music immediately. I've been a huge Billy Joel fan ever since, but I also love all kinds of music
This is one of the best songs from this great artist, it comes from a great album too, Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, She's Always a Woman and Get it Right the First Time are just a few more from a wonderful LP.
