I think this is your BEST EVER interview Jason - you should get an award for this one. (Judging this on the basis that I’ve watched EVERY twist episode….)

I really appreciated this interview - thank you Jason for taking the chance, and Billy, wow, very impressed with your honesty. So many warning signs for founders, and people who work with founders, to be aware of. I think the fixed date/compelling event of the Frye Fest caused things to come crashing down in a burst, but for businesses trying to ship/launch, or even make payroll, the pressure can be intense and the desire to cut corners is powerful.

thanks! we thought that approaching the fyre fest from a startup perspective would be helpful/enlightening for listeners -- and we're thankful to billy for being so open with us.

@@startups Agree. Society spends so much time and effort canceling people and not giving them a chance for redemption. Billy did his time and I hope he comes out on top.

This was probably one of the best interviews you have done Json. People, especially founders need to hear the other side. +, you maid a good point, maybe there are some listeners that needed to here this one. Thanks, bro!

he's charismatic, him being charismatic is irrelevant to his crimes and what he has done. he fooled you though.

Great episode, Jason. I believe you made the right choice to interview him. It’s a hell of a cautionary tale. However, do I quite believe he’s changed? Unfortunately, no. Though time will tell. Regardless I appreciate his candor. Ps… The irony is he weaponized his intelligence against himself…

Enjoyed the episode. Entertaining & informative on many levels and I think completely in the TWIST wheelhouse. Wasn't expecting him to take full ownership of this disaster, but I anticipate Jason would have quickly called him out for anything less. Occurred to me that he doesn't fall into the Ivy school educated family category that seems to be a trend among premeditaed fraud (dont believe this was premeditated - FWIW).

He is going to try it again. He knows he can't really focus on a profit on this one; and so they'll put everything into it for a great show ( relatively speaking) this time. Next time, water will be $35 a bottle, toilets will be $4.00 per release.. everyone will get gouged on the second one ( third attempt) BTW... as far as I can tell , I never felt like he purposely defrauded anyone. I believe that he really had the idea, but had trouble turning it into a product; which is the issue most have. But, he is also a sales guy - maybe not as much as he is a marketing guy - but he is into sales.. and he might just be really good at lying.

You don't need to be a shrink to know that Billy thrives on success and accolades. Not failing nor the attention that comes with failure. Yes, he enjoys the current attention and press he is getting, as he does crave the limelight, but he doesn't prefer it this way. He does care if it is positive attention or negative attention. Again, I am not a doctor, and it took Billy 4 years in the clink to understand this himself, he is not done with swinging for the fences! I do sometimes act as a LifeCoach to people who look to me for advice, and I can say, as a professional Event Planner, I have kept up on the Fyre Fest and have enjoyed every minute. I am here for it! Schadenfreude is a drug and hard to stay away from. Billy may come up with another big idea! Even Fyre Fest was not a terrible idea. But executing the idea is another story. It isn't about Manifesting--it is about planning. Managing expectations. Worrying about the details. The devil is in the details, as they say. And they were right! As I said, I am not a shrink. I am also not Magellan, but Short Hills is New Jersey, NOT New York! Sorry, Jersey boy, but I just spent 5 munutes rooting for you... and now I don't believe a word that comes out of your mouth! THAT is how fast you lose your second chance!

I’d go to the next Fyre festival. It seems like an awful idea, but I understand his drive to make things right and prove he CAN do it. Shkreli next!! He actually seems like a relatively good guy.

I find it mind boggling that this guy at the get go lied about where he grew up... Short Hills in NY when he knew it was in NJ. Then when I heard he had been in Solitary Confinement, I immediately gave him the benefit of the doubt and assumed it was a situation where he requested Solitary for his personal protection. But... Again he tells the real reason why he was in Solitary, he broke the prison rules by running an illegal enterprise over the pay phone. He's a liar and just these instances and I'm sure there's many more lies that came out and will continue to come out of this sociopath-type. By the way, I'm sure this guy read everything about you Jason to butter you up and charm you with the "happenstance" of your commonalities. He's a liar and I would not be surprised if other"misguided" decisions. Once a liar always a liar.

Was this clown even in Maximum Security prison? I guessing he was either in Minimum Security or Medium Security. Based on my viewing of numerous Law and Order episodes, gang leaders are not in minimum or medium security prisons.

He hasn't ever been an entrepreneur, or above water. he's only ever been a professional liar who has pretended to be an entrepreneur. He was a liar and a conman with his Magnisus "business" and continued with Fyre. I dont think people call him "inmate McFarland" to get at him, its simply an accurate title. Unlike calling him "business man McFarland". Also, what about the lady who spent all her own money and lost it trusting you to pay her for catering? She wasn't a "professional investor" who should have known better. This interview is ridiculous.
