A forgotten runningback. Sims was a powerful runner with good speed. Won the Heisman Trophy in 1978 and was drafted 1st overall in the 1980 NFL Draft, making an immediate impact (won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year). His career was cut short after a knee injury suffered during the 1984 season. Ran for over 5,000 yards and scored 47 total touchdowns in his career with the Lions.

Born in Detroit 1965 lem barney, Leonard Thompson, Billy Sim, Barry sanders, Herman Moore, those were my favorite players. Incredible athletes, I forgot dexter Bussey, that was most all of my memories, even in losing form, loved every minute of it, hopefully they have turned the corner.

Billy Sims has one of the best highlights I’ve watched as of yet. He had potential to be a Hall of Famer, but he retired early due to injuries.🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

Billy Sims was destined to be a Hall-of-Famer, but injuries impeded him; I still remember his debut game vs the Rams. He was a fantastic running back.

My Detroit Lions hero growing up. Have him on par talent wise with Barry Sanders. Billy was Epic and career got cut short with devastating knee injury.

AWESOME CHOICE! HE WAS FUN TO WATCH. HES ANOTHER ON A LONG LIST OF TOTALLY GIFTED RUNNERS WHO HAD SHORT CAREERS. SAYERS, BO JACKSON, SIMMS, BILLY MITCHELL ( SWITCH AFTER TRADE TO RECIEVER) , STERLING Sharpe, Lynn Swann, Wilbert Montgomery THAT WOULD BE A COOL IDEA TO FOCUS on .

@@pamle1 Yes he is in the Hof & Priest Holmes probably should be in as well. With 8,000 career yrds and a stretch of 3 yrs he scores x62 Rushing Tds alone and X4 more Recieving for 66 Total TDS! Lifetime 4.6 avg . That was 21-27-14 TDS 2002-2003-2004. Not to mention 2002 1,615 yrds 2003 1,420 yrds 2004 only played 8 games still had 892 yrds 14 TDS 4.6 avg carry. Besides in 1998 1,008 yrds 4.3 avg and 2001 had 1,555 4.8 avg carry only 8 tds . An off yr Lol. Wild Stuff Terrell Davis & Holmes. That's what I like about this channel he covers the obvious to the not so obvious great underated players.

I love how he would hold back to give his blockers, at the line or down field, a chance to engage tacklers, then it was off to the races.

Such a shame that backs like Sims and William Andrews had their careers cut short by injuries, both looked like potential Hall Of Famers.

Barry was fun, Billy was power. Nobody could leap a pile near the goal line like Billy. And he had a fire in his belly that wouldn't quit. There is the highlight moment people remember where he ran up one Oiler defenders back and kicked another on the way down, but most people don't know or forgot the Lions lost that game. The Lions were in the hunt for a playoff spot and the Oilers really sucked that year. Billy ran for 120 yards or so in that losing effort and he was so pissed he overturned the Gatorade table. If he hadn't torn his knee up, or maybe if the medical technology was a few years better he would have made the HOF. Clark held him out of the preseason games as a rookie so we really didn't know what we had. We found out quick in that first game against the Rams. What a coming out party. No telling what might have been in 83 if Danielson hadn't thrown five pics and Eddie Murray, good old steady Eddie, hadn't missed that 43 yard FG in the playoff game against the 49ers. Billy was primed for a big playoff run, but he never got another chance. He signed a four year deal then promptly tore his knee up in 84. 1984, the year the Tigers won the Series, but we lost Billy. I liked Barry, but if ya told me I could have either one in his prime in a must-win game I'd pick Billy. What a back.

Wow! He had some moves, didn't he? I could see why it'd be hard for defenders to draw a bead on him. You think you had him but he'd dart sideways and be gone. Wonder who was faster - Sims, or Barry Sanders? And, noticed he had tape wrapped around the center of his facemask in some clips. What was it for?
