THIS was rock and roll. No fancy, expensive sets. Just 5 extremely talented musicians under some colored lights who could bring the house down. The playing is tight, the vocals are strong. At the time, it never occurred to me that some day it might end.
As Bob Seger once sang, "Ain't got money but I got a whole lot of love." We were so rich then. Somehow it all got replaced with the love of Money (and we are sadly re-learning that lesson).
@MetallicBill right. But real rock bands don't care about award shows. They care about concert tickets and album sales. Some of the best are critically unknown but their fans will praise them forever. 😁
Billy deserves the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!!!!! He has earned it and should be presented to Him while he can enjoy it. Don't induct someone after they pass and leave us.
It's a shame that these great songs rarely get played live.billy is a wealthy man who doesn't need to tour but even if he went out for 2 months one summer I think he would be suprised at the size of audiences waiting for him.
Squier needs to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Amazing songwriter and musician. This concert was probably the best lineup of his backing band. Great musicians all around.
They were great friends. He even wrote a song for Freddie when he died called "I Have Seen You Fly". Freddie did the 41 second intro and backing vocals for Billy's Love is The Hero.
I saw Queen and Mr. Squire live in Cincinnati on the Emotions in Motion tour. My friends and I went to see B.S. and I thank God everyday that we saw Queen.
I remember waiting for In the Dark, and The FIXX, and I think something by Duran Duran.. (and im a metal freak) … the 80’s were a great time - never forget The Cars either… another “perfect” band.
I didn't think he fizzled so much as accomplished what he wanted. He didn't pursue the fame and fortune circuit because he was too talented to compromise.
I've been dying to know who the other guitarist is but closest I've come to a name is "Mr. C" And that info I got feom someone elses comment so take it as you will...anyway, who is he?
I just love the fact that he's just as good live as he is when you listen to his albums with the help of the studio. Some bands are not as good live. I also love the way he constantly interacts with his audience!!!! A true professional. Such a talent
Props to Billy Squier - every live performance I've seen of him, to this day, sounds just like the studio version. Few live acts pull that off. Great performer!
@@MikeMarden1 I doubt that is a 50s burst. It has a flame top, the finish is bright and the tuners are chrome. Probably something newer at that time. But it would definitely be vintage now.
Now I'm listening to Ol Billy to escape this coronavirus for a little bit. Going back in the day ( time) when there was a life Is this the the reality for US and our children and grandchildren Now?? Time machine where are you
Im from south of Brazil, 37 yo, discovered this artist today, this is exactly my kind of music, amazing, beautiful and powerful songs. The guitarist is wearing a Brazil shirt, hahahahaha, awesome.
With my 1st electric guitar & a "Don't say no" album,i locked myself away for a year & learned how to play guitar & this album note for note..For that i'm eternally grateful to Billy Squire..Dude was a top tier performer back in the day...A hit machine & a hell of a guitarist too..He'll always be one of my heroes along with several others who inspired me over the years..
My God this is the REAL THING Now that's perfection when you sound like the recording studio God knows I Miss This Damn I love Mr. SQUIER.HIS BAND WAS THE SHIT!!!
I was born in 82’. I love this dudes music. With the lack of good music at least what is heard by the masses, it is far easier to find older good music than it is to find good new music, that is why this stuff will live on.
I saw Billy LIVE in about 1983 at the Long Beach Arena, CA and that show was one of the single greatest Live performances I’ve ever been to. He was just incredible. Every song sounded just like the album tracks. He was just a superbly amazing performer. Why has he been forgotten?
@@humanbeing2420 Yep. It's a shame, but that's the reason. Billy himself has said so in several interviews. It was a terrible video, but good artists should be allowed to make mistakes and it shouldn't have ruined his whole career.
Ratt was his opener the first time I saw him and King's X and Blue Murder were the openers the second time I saw him... the 80's were effing great for rock and metal!
I just found this....what a great way to bring back so many memories! Thank you Billy and I your band. I do wish I could have seen you all back when this was recorded. I would have been so happy!!!!!! 🥰
OMG LOVE THIS!!! I am a teenager again back in that front row - and the smiles I got from him I still remember today! Love his song writing style - intelligent and well done!
Woot! I lived either in Maple Grove or Northfield, MN when you saw that show! I'm maybe 2-3 years younger. Billy just floored me in those days. He was such a great songwriter. Whenever the show was, I know I heard about it on KQRS, and I was envious of kids like you who got to go.
Golden Earring I Love that band, such great tunes. Very underrated sadly here in North America. That would have been an amazing concert with Billy and Golden Earring
We can create another era that's totally freakin' fabulous like the unforgettably wild '80s // It's reptilian corporate entities that are soulless, money-driven, unimaginative and they're controlling everything through the master and slave dichotomy of conventional economics. The system is a plutocracy impeding natural human evolution.
BILLY SQUIER BLOWS THE DOORS OFF THE ARENA! What a sick show, I am so bummed to have missed it. Thankful I got to see him in the early '90s. Started with "Don't Say No" vinyl LP and I was hooked. Much love Billy ✌️
I saw Squier live in Springfield, MA. Can't remember who opened for him, just remember he was fantastic live, still enjoying the tunes again some years later.
Wow! Just wow! I used to think Squier was so gay (and I can use that term because it was the 80's) and I was such a metalhead, its only now in my late 40's that I realize I missed out on a experiencing brilliant musician in his prime. Hats off to you sir. Rock & Roll Forever!
You sure did miss something Special...I'm 60 yrs old now, I saw and met Billy at age 17. To see him Live you would have been blown away, from the great songs he's written.. the Band, all very talented musicians.. Billy's stage presence.. and may I add LOUD! Pure Talent
@@dianamcclam5993 I hear you! Never thought I'd be 59 on a smart phone watchin and listening to what I missed back than and ACTUALLY BE SAYING NOW IM 59 REALITY DOES SUCK SOMETIMES
Good days, good times, good memories, good rock, Saga, Squier, Feb 23, 1983, Lubbock Municipal Coliseum..& still listening to both these days at 52..getting old but still rockin' just as hard.
I saw Billy Squier on this tour, 4th of July, 1981. In the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando FL. Foghat was there, the leftovers from Skynyrd, Rossington Collins Band, and REO Speedwagon headlined. Billy was a highlight that day for sure!!!
I have his albums on vinyl, no CD or MP3 versions. It's really great to hear these again! The sound quality is awesome! Takes me back to the early 80's.
Back in This day you could only see your favorite bands live or occasionally on TV-like Don Kirshner’s Rock concert around midnight on the weekend. Now I just grab My phone and Voila! Billy Squire in concert!! Damn we’re spoiled
Growing up in Albuquerque and hearing Billy Squire on 94 Rock every day, what a pleasure! Than to see him live as Def Leppard opened for him! Yes, one of the most underrated, lost classic artists of all time!
One of my favorite artists of all time. I like a lot of his stuff but the perfect "Don't Say No" was on repeat for many years. Still listen to it today.
One of my favorite live performances, I recorded this onto cassette tape when it was broadcast on the Blue Jean network. I wore that tape out. I found the DVD many years later. Bobby Chouinard was such and underrated drummer. Check out his biography written by his nephew.
I joined the USAF in august 82, drove across the country from Rhode Island to San Antonio Texas in my 68 ford torino, three cassette tapes, one was Billy Squire, the other Aldo Nova
Great show! I never realized Billy was such a good giitarist - I figured he was just a singer/strummer & his guitarist did all the lead work, but Billy really ripped it out a time or two!
My very first concert ever in 1981 in Louisville KY. The Louisville Gardens. I still can't get enough of In the Dark, Lonely is the Night, My kinda lover and stroke. One of the best albums ever.
I remember 9th grade, first concert, first real girlfriend and we went together to the show. During the encore they pulled her up on stage and I didn't see nor hear from her till school the next Monday and she would never tell me...... so I dated her best friend. Good times man!
