Yeah, but Cory has to come with it! I actually stopped this and went to get my headphones when I found it. Couldn’t believe what the low end added to the song - and was BLOWN away to realize that was Cory’s foot pedal work. That he can realize all that top end right hand filigree AND keep the bass time so locked is a crazy level of musicianship! 3 of the worlds finest musicians at work here. And it’s a freakin’ privilege to be able to hear them play!
This sent me on a deep dive rabbit hole spiral about a horse from 1752. Leadbelly and Guthrie sang this together, about the horse that never lost. Peter Paul and Mary’s adaptation is about wishing they bet on this particular horse. Damn, would’ve been a good bet - so I’ll give em that. Plastic Ono Band took their adaptation and formed the melody in question into Happy Xmas(War is Over) possibly one of the greatest Christmas time songs ever, we all know it dearly… but did we know it came from a horse? Incredible feats this horse Skewbald ran through to get John fucking Lennon to change it up for Christmas. Rabbit hole turned into a Horse hole for me. Seriously thanks for this upload. These guys absolutely KILLED this song. What a phenomenal performance from Cory and Thile, with Strings voice it’s so complete. This is amazing.
Musical worlds collide. Been following Chris Thile's career for a long time and came across Cory Henry with Snarky Puppy. I guess this is Chris's first rodeo with a jazz keyboardist though. The album with Brad Mehldau is excellent.
Cory Henry popped off his show to play the bass pedals, Chris and Billy followed suit. This was late in the show, and the boys were having a goofy fun time
