Billy Strings plays Roy Acuff and Doc Watson's "Streamline Cannonball" on 3/15/22 at the Roadrunner in Boston, MA. Brought to you by Less Than Face Productions. Audio by Casey C.
I’ve watched him grow up by going to delfest since it started. Billy has taken a very difficult path and succeeded and his passion for roots has given him a deep and wide influence and song selections. He blew me away on Billy Kruetzmans b day bash last year in Hawaii and I think is one of the best live acts in music today. He’s young and this accomplished already which makes for lots of joy for all of us with great things to come. He’s a class act so much so I sent my daughter to see him in Carey NC last night while I streamed.
Billy is doing for Bluegrass and homegrown music genres that SRV did for the Blues and The Texas music scene. Oh hey, they share the same birthday as well! Yes folks Billy is a wunderkind!🎶
Damnit man that was cool. I love how Billy shares the stage with the rest of the band. Everyone up there is an amazing artist. And Billy let's us see them too. 😎
Saw Doc in a tiny bar in Idaho City,Id back in 1976 or 77. It was completely packed out standing room only. I being a skinny 16 year old kid weaseled my way up front. I remember the monitor speakers were having problems and he kept telling people to move away from the speakers. It was a night i will never forget!
DAMN SAM! Very few can follow Doc, but Billy does him proud. He couldn't pick a better idol to emulate. I'm a finger picker and I'm pretty good, but my hat is off to anyone who can flat pick..it's a whole other discipline. I just love Billy.
I hope this man stays true to the music for the next sixty years or so and doesn"t go off the rails like a lot of people who attain meteoric fame early in their life. The bluegrass mantle is on his shoulders.
Billy has introduced them over and over in my scant experience: Billy Failing on Banjo and vocals; Jarrod Walker on Mandolin and vocals; and, Royal Masat on standup Bass fiddle and vocals! Great team! Their tightness shows!
Billys solo on this is about as complex as it can get. The amount of time it takes to more or less improv a solo like that is no joke people. Billy IS the best guitar player on earth right now if we are looking at speed and technical ability. My dads like hes not as good as slash, im like dad billy could eat slash for lunch even in slashes prime 😂. Hard to compare the two anyway lol, im ramblin. Is your favorite guitar player youre favorite because of his skill or his music?
Billy's amplified sound has improved. In earlier videos there was a lot of piezo quack, but I didn't hear it in this one. I wonder if he was using just the mag pickup, or a mic too, and/or some piezo. Anyone know?
I think you might be misunderstanding. These days, to ‘crush’ something just means to do a great job of it. Which Billy certainly did, all respect to Doc. A great song by Doc and a great cover by Billy!
I choose to think of it like, he crushes the expectations of how he'll do. Doc was such a touring talent, few covers do him justice, so our expectations are tempered, but he crushed it.
