Seriously Billy has such charisma, guitar skills and a great voice. He has it all and is keeping his music really fresh while still playing traditional tunes as well as mixing it all up jamming with other bands and musicians. Great to see his modest, playful attitude too. He brings out the best in those he plays with and we who watch and listen to the music are the lucky ones. It’s been a total privilege to witness Billy and his music. A hard act to follow.
Amazing kid! From bluegrass to R&B and hard rock...with mandolin and banjo in "train, train"!!!! This kid is the new heavy Leadbelly. The best acoustic guitar player in 30 years. Finally something really good from our new generation. And what a voice! Great showmanship, also.
This guy is going to take blue grass places that it never new it could go. At this point in his life hes young and has developed technique comparable to Doc Watson and Tony Rice at the end of there respective careers. I'm so excited for bluegrass and the promise that there is some one to carry on the torch that has almost faded. Hold it high and let it burn billy, you got this shit!
Garey w so this awesome guitar phenomenon is from Michigan? Are all of his band members from Michigan also? Of course I've not been schooled on his early years.
if it was metal you were going for the comparison would be closer to necrophagist or if you wanted to suggest more classical metal, something like dream theater. seeing as billy has blown out ears and sometimes wears a cryptopsy shirt, I'd say he would identify with the necrophagist comparison
Sorry to have missed 2017. Saw Billy and boys the previous two years. Fabulantastic. He also showed up in Morro Bay a few months ago. What a young talent!!
Guitar for sale. Hardly played soon to be burned. Mighty fine playin there gentlemen. Some of the very best I have heard. Lookout Cats. That would be Gnashville Cats.
Yeeeeeaaaaaah! Got turned on to Billy Strings by Wings of Pegasus on youtube. These are NOT hipster d-bags. they know from whence they came. The real deal. Bluegrass at its finest! Thank you for this post, Jam in the Van. You, also, have turned me on to some great bands I might never have heard of otherwise.
I love billy strings' work. Always have. But it would be much better if he would ever even mention the names of his sidemen here. They are great and deserve to, at least, be listed. Thanks
