Good movie, but would have been better if they hadn't taken "creative license" with practically every scene. Charles Dickens always said, "truth is stranger than fiction." Why not do a movie based on eyewitness accounts and evidence? Dramatizing past events could and would be awesome and would give the audience a better understanding of what was really going on.
I read everything I can possibly find about Billy the kid. This is the first time I heard that he had an aunt and was raised by her after his mother died.
I'd like some more info about John Jones (one of Billys long time friends that was actually a member of a rival gang and ended up killing some of his own gang)
After three mistakes, I can understand why Garret decided to cut his losses and claim a win. It seems totally believable that Billy the Kid may have lived for decades after his death was supposed to have occurred. Mark Twain may not have been the only one whose death was greatly exaggerated. My money says Billy is buried in Texas.
Paul Simmons Look at the pictures they are totally different people. If somebody is going to be Billy the Kid they need to look like him. Brushy claimed he got shot in the jaw, shoulder and top of his head in a shoot out with Pat Garrett. His face would be a mess, but there is no scarred/disfigured face nor scarring near the top of the head. Before claiming to be Billy the Kid Brushy said he was in the James Gang and his friend Dalton was the real Jesse James.

I mean from what I know no one went after the murderers, But that still don't make it right for Billy to kill the people. Even though I think it should have been fine as long as he had the evidence that it was the right people he killed.
But Brushy Bill's own family Bible says he was born years later then Billy the Kid... and was just a wee wee kid when Billy was a young adult.. but very interesting
If you want to find out you can get the book Billy the Kid Identity Revealed. In 1949 Brushy told a lawyer the entire story. The lawyer recorded every word of it. Brushy told his entire life story. He showed him all the correct scars from bullets and the one from a knife. It wasn't until around ten years ago I think that a man remembered the story and wanted to see if it was true. After the lawyer recorded everything the story was dropped. Brushy went before the governor but the governor made a joke of it and scared Brushy. Brushy made a deal that it would all be done in private. He did not want anybody to know. He wanted to quietly get his pardon. All these people more or less jumping him caused him to have a stroke. He died like a week later. This new guy looked over the entire story and started to research it. He found document to verify everything Brushy said. He said he was hit that night in the shoulder and went home to I can't remember the name of the town right now, it was a Mexican town. In doing research they discovered a census was being taken the day after. Everybody had to show up in this small town. The census shows 2 white men lived in this town. One was like 46 the second man was recorded as being 21 years old but not present. He was home sick with a gun shot wound. Brushy told them how the shooting at the jail REALLY happened. Nobody could ever quite piece together exactly what happened in that room with the odd position of the bullet hole. Brushy told them what happened and it checked out perfectly. It was his story that led them to pull up some boards at the top of the steps and see if there really was a pool of blood at the top of the steps back then. They used a special light that reacts to blood and it instantly lit up a rather large pool of blood that had dripped down between the floor boards. He described how the outside of the jail looked different at that time. When he was upstairs he explained how the rooms have changed from when he was there. After digging into records from the city they found he was 100% right about everything he described. The changes had been made so long ago that nobody alive knew about it. He slipped out of the cuffs in front of him to show him how he did it. He explained who put a gun in the outhouse for him but he did not use it. He went into detail about this man and his relatives that also lived in the town. The records were checked and he was 100% right! He talked about the letters he wrote to the governor. At this time these letters were not even known to exist. He was 100% correct when they checked the letters. He talks about the shoot out at the mill. He gives very clear details step by step that are not in line with the official story. In the 70's 2 letters were found that were written by someone who was there. Those letters matched Brushy's story 100% This is a man who time and time again gave information only Billy the Kid should know. He corrected the story. He said the woman who died when he was young was not his mother. She was his aunt. He said his mom died when he was three. There is a large collection of photographs to back up every bit of his story. You can tell they are all the same guy. You can even see Brushy wearing the same gamblers ring in his photos just like the ring in the one known Billy photo. 5 people who we KNOW for SURE lived in Fort Sumner and knew Billy the Kid. He sat down with these people 1 at a time and talked. Each person claimed that was Billy and they were sure. They would ask him questions and then jump up because they knew only Billy could have answered that question. Brushy told each person "Ask me a question only Billy could answer. All 5 of these people prepared and signed written legal statements filed with the courts that under the danger of lying under oath , they can say beyond the shadow of a doubt the man they just spoke to IS Billy the Kid beyond any doubt what so ever!!! The woman hugged him and cried before they talked. Pat Garett hid the body he shot. He would not let anybody see it. His deputy Poe told him he shot the wrong man as soon as he saw the body!! The body was put in a pine box and buried at first light. This IS NOT HOW ANYBODY would have handled it!! In total he stood to gain $5,000 from killing Billy. Everybody knows what you do next. It's the way it is ALWAYS done! You immediately send for a photographer to get a picture of the body. You also get a coroner to review the body and write a death certificate. You then let people who knew him to see the body and verify that it is him. Pat DID NOT DO any of this. His own deputy told him that was not the body of Billy the Kid. Why? His obituary describes him as having darkened his skin and grown a thick beard to hide from people. Billy was Irish and pale skinned. He could not tan if his life depended on it! Billy had NO facial hair. That's a big part of why they called him Kid. Here is the bitch of it. Brushy said it was Billy Barlow a Mexican friend of his that Pat killed. o.k. when Brushy told this story the obituary was buried deep in city records. It was not found until well over 30 years AFTER Brushy told that story!! Read the book. There are just SO MANY things that Brushy said that were later proven to be right!! There are official records, photos, and other things found over the years that continue to match what Brushy said. Take the shoot out at the McSween house. Billy said that in that fight 3 black soldiers were killed. Years and years later Dudley's (in charge of those troops) court martial records were pulled and it showed he had 3 black soldiers that were killed in that shootout!

I have a book that has others saying he re-named himself John Miller who lived up in the Zuni Mts. with an Indian woman. He had a gun like the colt that Billy Had. Lots of interesting stories out there. I saw another video where Billy is laid to rest next to his mother in New Mexico & it is fenced it. They charge tourists money to come & view both graves or pay their respects . That is the mysterious part as to why Pat Garret didn't have a big gathering & have someone take a photo of Billy before closing the coffin. I guess he just wanted it to be over with. I'm not so sure I believe the DNA tests. There should be more testing done.
The only thing in common was that they were both male. Their faces have totally different shapes and features. I guess if you drink enough whisky they may start to look alike? LOL!

Its already been proven that Brushy Bill was not Billy The Kid, years ago. First thing, he was not 90yrs old when he died. He was discredited by family members that he was 79. Second thing, in the 1930s, Brushy Bill did seek media attention pretending to be one of Jesse James colleagues during Jesse's career and he and the man claiming to be Jesse James in the 1930s were both laughed out of town. 3rd thing, When Brushy Bill was introduced to Billiy's surviving friends from Fort Sumner days, several spoke to Brushy in Spanish, as they fluently did w Billy during his time in Arizona and New Mexico, but Brushy didn't understand a word of Spanish. When Brushy past away in 1950, his original burial marker listed his real name AND birth date. It has been removed and marked with a new, large advertising burial tombstone. Hico Texas as nothing else but this bogus story to bring in passing tourists and travelers to the boring, sleepy little town.

By 1873, they had made their way to the New Mexico Territory, where his mother died of tuberculosis in 1874.
I visited the museum, and read the book by the lawyer (I think) as told by Brushy Bill... It is totally plausible. It is said that the guy shot by Pat Garret was another guy named Bill and they buried him quick and called it done.. Also, if you remember, Pat, himself was murdered along a trail some time later... Who would’ve done that? I can’t say that I think Brushy Bill and Billy the Kid are identical, but there is also decades of difference between the two pictures, and, again, it is certainly plausible. Brushy, himself, led an interesting life post Billy the Kid era.
People always like to ask this question: WHY would Pat Garrett decide to let Billy The Kid go all of a sudden? Id doesn't make sense!!! Actually, it makes perfect sense! He had no choice!!! You have to understand what happened. Pat was HIRED to get Billy The Kid dead or alive. There was a LOT of money in it!! The ACTUAL amount with everything added was $5,000!! Not a lot now! Then, He could purchase a nice house AND a business like a Saloon and STILL had over $2,000 left!! O.K. so Pat has all this on the line for Billy. BUT this is JUST for BILLY!! Nobody else! He was never hired to bring in the regulators!! There was no money in it! When Pat shot and killed Charlie Bowdre it was actually murder. He had no order to kill Charlie. He had no legal right to kill Charlie. He killed Charlie from ambush by MISTAKE! He thought it was Billy because they were wearing a similar hat. OOOOOPS! It is overlooked because he arrested Billy in the process. Then Pat Garrett screws up AGAIN!!! He shoots and kills Tom O'Folliard by MISTAKE from ambush!! ONCE AGAIN Pat screws up and kills the wrong person. He not only killed Tom but he was very cruel to him in the way he moved Tom's soon to be dead body around and purposefully made it hurt more. As he laid on a bead dying, the boy cried out consistently for water, whiskey, or death. He was taunted for it until he died. Pat KNEW things were falling apart! People were FURIOUS he killed Tom who in no way deserved to be shot and killed. He committed murder YET AGAIN!!! He knew damn well that we was not going to get away with it a third time! Think about it.....If your Billy the Kid and your walking towards a house to get a cut of meet to cook at MIDNIGHT and you start seeing men standing on porches with rifles...….would you keep walking? Would you pass one deputy after another clearly holding their rifles at midnight???? When he asks in Spanish "Who are they" the deputies answer back to him in English. "It's o.k. Kid! We are not going to hurt you." Then the boy answers back to the deputies in Spanish??? Billy spoke English and Spanish. The deputies clearly only spoke English. Yet, the boy keeps responding in English? That's because Billy Barlow did not speak English. Pat got excited and fired! He shot Billy Barlow and killed him instantly!!! THE SECOND he saw the body he knew it was not Billy the Kid! The second his deputy saw the body.....he KNEW it was not Billy the Kid!! Why? Billy the Kid was short, had blonde hair and clear blue eyes. The known photo is a very bad pic of him. People said they could barely recognize him. It was said he could have any girl he wanted. They said when he went in a room all the girls eyes went to him. Billy Barlow was a dark skin Mexican with a beard. The body on the floor was a dark skin Mexican with a beard. Pat immediately removed the body to the one room with no windows. He put armed men to guard it. It paid men to begin digging his grave right away in the dark. The body was buried at first light. Pat murdered a THIRD MAN!! NO not , this time but a BOY!! This was it! This was too far!! He would hang for this and he knew it! He had no choice but to lie!! Billy Barlow was about 16 years old! He murdered a 16 year old boy who was innocent!! The Kid was planning on going to Mexico in a few days anyway. He took his chance, left and kept his mouth shut. That's why he had a strict no gun rule on any of his property the rest of his life but her carried two guns. He was famous for being paranoid. Pat had no choice!! He had to lie! Reading a book several times does not make you an expert on the facts. If I read a book on conspiracy theories several times it doesn't mean they are true. Personally I don't think they look alike.

My money is on John Miller being Billy the Kid. Too many coincidences, the main one being there's no record of John Miller existing before 1881, bullet scars, the fact Miller never outright claimed he was Billy the Kid (it was his wife who made the outright claim), and a whole host of other reasons.
One thing that I noticed is that the picture of him has him with one pistol worn in a traditional draw for a right hander. But both Young guns 1 and 2 as well as The Kid depict him with dueling crossdraw pistols. Reports of Billy being able to spin the guns in his hands at opposite directions at the same time having incredible gun shownmanship, draw speed and accuracy with 2 pistols. So did he cary one pistol and wear like in the pic? Did he have 2 pistols he carried in traditional draw holsters or where they cross draw and the picture doesn't represent the entirety of his full arsenal of his outlaw career? I need answers
They made 55 movies about "Billy" ALL of them were total bullshit. TOTAL - bull-shit! Although he could shoot expertly with either hand, he never wore more than one pistol, and that was NEVER a Colt 45 as shown in the movies. His hands were too small to handle that gun. He carried a small Colt Bisley .36 - and only one of them. The wanted posters show his height to be 5 f00t 3 at age 18 in 1879. Tiny. He was known for having a terrific singing voice, and always being in a good mood. He never smoked or chewed tobacco, never drank - not even beer, was exceptionally polite to girls and women, but although always reported to be good-looking, never had a girlfriend. He played the piano very well, and danced well - he was especially good at the Mexican fandango. Hewore a pinky ring on his left hand and favored brightly colored neckechiefs. He was taken out of school by his devoted mother Catherine at 12 because he was undersized and constantly bullied. She died when he was 13 or so, and he was devoted to her memory for the rest of his tragically short life.
The facial recognition software wasn't just "some similarities". It was a 93% match. A 93% match btw is enough evidence in America to convict someone of murder in a court of law. It's also the same software that the FBI, CIA and Interpol use. This alone should give serious doubt to the fort sumner burial.
I can tell you, the only authentic picture of 'Billy the Kid' is the one where he is playing croquet. That tin type photo is marred for specific reason. The reason being, this man was stalked. That's why there are several photos of men of almost the exact same stature, yet, not the same man, to confound and confuse. In that regard, Billy was once known to be known as Henry McCarty, among other names. Thing is, he faked his death and changed his name more than once, perhaps four times. Runs in the family. Could be due to some kind of ethnic cleansing type issue, know what I mean?

It's not the 3rd person in a row that Pat Garrett shot in the back. He did kill 2 real friends of Billy's who were outlaws and he mistaken Charlie Bowdre as Billy the Kid because of the hat he was wearing, but he did not shoot him in the back.
All outlaws had pics of their dead bodies plus the bodies where shown to the towns people and there is not 1 pic of a dead billy the kid and his body was not shown to no towns people. The only ones who identified the body where his friends and the body was buried shorty after. The deputy that had accompanied Garett immediately said that, 'this is not the kid', Garrett had already killed two other men before this one, thinking they were Billy. Shot them in the back. He was dead set on making a name fir himself, and declared that he had indeed killed the kid. The body was buried before noon the following day. The deputy, however, put in his report, that the man killed, was NOT Billy the kid. The new Governor, the one appointed after Wallace, continued to post warrants fir the kids arrest, for 2 years after this killing, due to the deputys statement. It was said that Billy went diwn into Old Mexico, and stayed fir 3 years, before returning to the US, in Texas. He never told anyone who he was, and worked several good jobs, without anyone knowing his true identity.
You are quite right!! It would have been a helluva big deal, to take the dead kid back to Lincoln, and put him on display, and have a photographer take pictures. Garrett did NOT kill the kid. He wanted to though. I believe that he knew, that if he kept killing the wrong men, that it wasn't going to look good for him, so he had to produce a body. The whole thing was reslly sketchy. Once the deputy thst accompanied him, put in his report, that the man killed, was not the kid. The governor continued is during warrants for the arrest of Billy the kid, for 2 years. I personally, am glad that he wasn't killed. He was done wrong by Gov Lew Wallace, and he deserved to be pardoned as a free man. The subsequent killings of the deputies, we're his only chance at freedom. There truly wasn't a jail thst could hold him. He was, and is, a legend.

In the book Alias Billy the Kid Morrison claimed Brushy stripped for him and he had 26 bullet and knife wounds on his body. There is no way Brushy Bill Roberts was shot and stabbed 26 times and live to tell the tall tale.
Its a possibility Brushy Bill could be the real Billy the Kid....They made a movie based on him. They have a museum in his honor. Why not Dig him up and Billy mother to get a DNA test like they did Jeese James....My opinion is Billy being killed by Pat Garrett is more of a interesting story then him dying a old man and beloved in Texas

Actually they did. I watched an old show not long ago about Brushy Bill. It wasn't his mom, it was another relative, probably the aunt. Sorry about that one. But apparently he ain't Billy. Which is sad. I believed he was.

Brushy wasn’t Billy the kid. I don’t think Pat actually killed Billy either though. I think he may have wounded him at some point but Billy could never have just stopped what he was doing at that time. He half way lost his mind. Pat was close to Billy at one point in his life. His life actually made a pretty bad turn after that night he supposedly shot him too. When the time came I doubt pat could pull the trigger and I think he lived out the rest of his life secretly in shame for it. Though again I don’t think Pat could live and not be in shame once he decided to go on that manhunt. If didn’t kill Billy he would be shamed and labeled as a coward if he did he would see himself as a traitor to an old friend. My bet is the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Pat himself was a notorious killer I don’t think he would have a problem killing someone in Billy’s place. I think Billy could have and probably better did convince him to do just that. Pat was in a no win situation. Most people couldn’t do what he claimed he did in that situation. Now granted the truth will likely never be known but one thing is. The Man in Texas didn’t even have close match on DNA
The fort Sumner area where he was apparently buried had a flood . A lot of the bodies were reburied . His grave was unmarked for 28 years and possibly isn’t even him . The land where his mother was buried was bought and the cemetery moved. They aren’t sure if just the headstones were moved or if the bodies were buried together if they were moved. So she isn’t possibly even buried where it says she is either. So if they test and it isn’t a match it wouldn’t prove anything.
Billy's blood is on the bench that he was laid out on after he was killed, I guess they tried doing DNA tests on it but the lab said it was too degraded to get usable info.
Its physicaly impossibke to to a dna test on either billy the kid or his mother as a huge flood occured in the graveyard where billy was buried disruptin all the graves making findin his body pretty much impossible....and his mothers grave was relocated in 1882 to an unspecified site....
The problem is we can only rely on the character of Garrett amd Morris to judge the truth. Garrett is known to lie and we don't know if Morrison testimony of brushy is true or if he had anterior motives.
