Fitting my new Bilstein B14 coilovers from @THQAutomotive to my VW Transporter T5. Part 1 consists of the rear suspension with part 1 to follow in the near future.
I started with them at the top setting as and drove on them a little as they will inevitably settle a bit. Then wound them down a bit at a time. I did it in a few goes. My main issue was the rear always looked like it was dragging its arse and thats the sole reason I went back to coil overs so that I can adjust it to look level. With 20’s might be an idea for you to also start at the highest setting as its a bigger wheel. Let my know how the komforts are. Good luck
Hi, I just put the jack under the shock or somewhere solid. Can be tricky as the van was already lowered. Just make sure it’s not going to slip off before you get the axle stand in place 👍
I changed from 20” to 18 the previous owner put on . I want to lift for more clearance. Do you have to take the shock off to adjust the spring with a c spanner
Hi, I’ve just upgraded last week to 19 inch lol. It’s a good question to be fair, when I put them on I adjusted them to where I thought they needed to be and they were spot on so not needed to do any more adjustment. It would probably be less of a faff to be honest as the adjuster is at the top and I can imagine it to be difficult if you didn’t. Thanks for commenting 👍
Hi, I put on cheap coilovers years ago and had it really low and found it really hard and bouncy which was uncomfortable and I eventually got fed up. I then decided to put a 40mm drop springs with standard shocks which was so much better until eventually the shocks were worn and needed to replace 4 of them, so rather than pay for 4 standard shocks I decided on the Bilsteins as expensive coilovers are much better than cheap ones. Also the other reason was as the van is a camper, it always looked like it was dragging its arse due to the extra weight in the back so by getting coilovers I could get the van looking level by adjusting the height. The Bilsteins are great on smooth roads but can feels crashy on our crap British roads but nowhere near as crap as the cheap coilovers. Hope that answers your question and thanks for the comment. Good luck with the T6 and hope you find something that might be of interest with my other vids. 🤙🤙
