There are so many potential benefits that can be realised by well-implemented and executed BIM processes. The problem is that with the industry the size that it is, it is really hard to achieve best practices across all of the relevant actors in the delivery and operations of a built asset.
Nathan's BIM Rant for this week focuses on appointing parties asking for information without real purpose. A lot of it is being asked for just in case! Would you be as irresponsible with asking for additional physical assets, just in case?
It is time to ask for what you need, and if you don't know what you need, you need to ask yourself, do you really need it then? Or maybe engage a facilities management expert to assist you in determining the fundamentals.
