Bimini Bahamas by Ferry

We take a day trip from Ft Lauderdale, Florida to Bimini in the Bahamas on the modern Jaume II, the Balearic Ferries catamaran (or is it a trimaran). The main hull doesn't seem to go in the water, so I'm not quite sure. This ferry is also known as the “fast ferry” to Bahamas.

One other thing worth mentioning. They blast the air-con super cold on the ferry. Bring a jacket or go outside if you can

Thank you. Your video provided much more information than the other videos I’ve searched regarding this Ferry. I just have a few questions: Did you book that hotel for a day or did they let you in to use the amenities? Also, what else is there to do and why’d you choose that island over the other island the ferry goes to? I’m asking because I want to go soon. Thank you in advance!

I believe, although I haven’t done it yet, that the other island is difficult to do as a day trip. The facilities at the hotel at Bimini Resorts World are open to all. You don’t need to purchase a day pass or anything to just wander around. There is a small fee to use the pool. There’s also a beach chair fee I believe if you use one at the Bimini Beach. There are other beaches though if you want to avoid that. Food is expensive at the hotel…I guess that’s how they cover the cost of the facilities.

You probably don’t need this info anymore but to answer your question about why Bimini and not any other island cause the ferry only goes one other island (Grand Bahama) and its a bit further from Florida and they only do that trip once a week they mainly just go Bimini

hey loved your videos. before boarding the ferry did you have to go through some sort of extensive checking (like something along the lines of tsa?) or did you just have to show your passport?

Do you mean security checks? Yes, there are, although i'd say less stringent than when flying.

I'm seeing $93 plus $89 tax one way ticket is that correct? If so that costs more than a carnival cruise to many islands. Also I see by the time you get to bimini it is noon and you have to be back by 5pm. That's not a lot if time.

Thanks..the beach reminds me the beaches at Varadero, Cuba...Outstanding hotels and some of the best beaches in the world. And, I might add, alot less expensive. Three hours direct from Toronto.

hi Mamie, the ferry docks near the Resorts World/ Hilton resort and that is where most people stay. you can certainly stay there and return a few days later. lots of people do that. not sure whether, if you're staying somewhere else if it is convenient for that.

Thanks for this. Think you sold me on it. Me and my wife are in Florida for a week. Did you find that there were plenty of options for food and drink even though you were only there for the day? Do the resorts like the Hilton let you go in there?

There are 2 main places to eat associated with the resort. I recommend the place at the beach Alex. There’s also a reasonable bar/restaurant at the casino.

Not to Miami. To Fort Lauderdale. You can take the Brightline from Fort Lauderdale to Miami, but you’ll need to Uber/taxi from the Cruise Port Terminal to the Brightline station

I'm afraid I am unaware of reentry rights for US visas. You may wish to consider an itinerary that requires only one entry into the United States

Yes you can. The ferry ticket gives you access to the resort, but you can go elsewhere.

Yes, you can go one day and return on a different day. As for prices, I suggest you look online, as they may change. I think I used gobahamasplus.com

Hi Ryann, for the day trip I believe you need an ID and birth certificate if you don’t have a passport. That’s according to other commenters on this thread so I suggest you check directly with Balearic or gobahamasplus, their agent. Arrival and departure times may vary, but you get a decent 5+ hours over there on a day trip. They also let you off first to maximize your time there. Bahamas Immigration is a breeze.

You have access to all the Resorts World facilities as part of your day trip ticket. Food and drinks are all extra of course, and are not cheap. But overall, in my opinion, a pretty reasonable trip

Hi Rosita, the port terminal is some sort of protected area, so i don't think there is any private parking, but i can't be sure. I didn't see any parking garage there.

You do not need one if you catch the ferry. Just show your ferry ticket.

Is that a question? US passport holders do not need a visa. Other passport holders need to check with the Bahamian Embassy

I was in Bimini 1988 this was a nice Island less tourist only excess by Chalks Airline or Mailboat from Nassau. Now it is messed up by American tourist and big hotels all the nature of the Bimini is wracked, no reason anymore to go, looks like any other Island in the Bahamas commercialised !!!

I used to live on South Bimini for 3 months every winter back then. Resorts ruined it and the destruction of the reef for that stupid ferry & cruise ships ruined the fishing. Bimini never used to have ANY crime back then but that is no longer the case and watch out the waters are now full of huge Bull Sharks.

You had best check directly with the agency when booking as rules change. You definitely need some sort of picture ID, but there isn’t a border control post or anything like that.

Extremely overpriced for what it is...absolutely not worthy. Also sea conditions on going back were terrible despite the nice weather,many people got sick. just another tourist trap
