I love protools stereo tracks. In protools, you get 2 knobs on a stereo track 1 for left and one for right, and you do whatever you want. Also, you can right-click a split into the mono something studio has, but you have to go all the way into the project folder. The one knob thing in st1 is madness.
The other S1 panning plugin, the Stereo Pan, does that: 2 separate L&R panpots, or linkable into a pan/balance pot plus a width control. And pan law adjustable within the plugin, therefore on a per channel basis, not globally! To sum to mono, you can also just click the two little circles by the fader of a stereo track or bus or fx track, and voilà, it becomes mono (even instantly corrects the waveform display to show summed signal). 👍 However, I do agree that it would be extra cool to have the option to freely choose, perhaps on a per channel basis or at least globally for the project, to use either the standard, current S1 type pan system or the "round knob", PT & others traditional pan system. That way there would be no need to insert a plugin, and aux sends panning etc would automatically follow.
Joe, I love this plugin. I usually use it in the Master to widen the entire mix. I wish you would do a more detailed tutorial with all the applications. I'm sure I'm missing some cool uses.
I appreciate this, it actually solved an issue I had when trying to use "Mid-Side Processing" to eliminate ~40 hz from the stereo image to make it mono. Solution: splitter tool -> Frequency split -> Binaural pan to mono with frquency split at 40 hz. Mid-side processing reduced my stereo image, but splitter and binaural pan worked. Happy S1 user :) thanks, Joe!
Off topic but S1 really needs a change in mapping buttons. It seems that I can't just press anywhere with lmb and I have to use the ctrl + spacebar shortcut because it simply doesn't allow me to map it like that. I really like the innovative features of S1 over PT but it's such a big downgrade in my workflow...
Hello Joe. I've long believed that most Studio One users have wanted the addition of stereo panning on the track itself. This has a very obvious reason, if you insert a Panning Plug In as a Plug In, later it is difficult to send a send to the center or in any other direction, you have no control over the send, it is impossible, you need to forcefully duplicate the track and send a send from that new track, there is no other way because plug ins are pre-fader. This is very time consuming. WE NEED STEREO PAN INSIDE THE TRACK PLEASE OR AT LEAST A FUNCTION THAT ALLOWS YOU TO SEND THE SEND IN ANY DIRECTION DESPITE USING A PAN PLUG IN. Follow Main Pan wouldn't be too bad to add it too, it exists but only in the cues. Thank you.
Maybe is because of the Panning Law over the plugin thing wich is great!, but I think we need at least an option that allows us to send a send in any direction.
I was wondering the same, I rather use Dual Pan because of more features, but sometimes is Binaural pan all you need. BP can somehow increase width to more than 100%, artificially possibly, which Dual Pan cannot.
@@22jmike Yeah makes sense. It can help in sterio widening as well. I too use Dual Pan in almost every channel, because of how S1 treats Sends and panning. The Sends use track panning, so instead, I use Dual Pan, or I can use Binaural Pan from now on, to sen dpanned information to sends 🙂
