This is the best tutorial. I usually do your method unless I am hand sewing.

Awesome tutorial on the ins and outs on various methods of cutting, pressing and attaching binding. I love your attention to detail and your honesty in what works best for you. I also have MS and arthritis and appreciate seeing the different methods demonstrated. Thanks so much for producing this video. 😊❤

I fold and iron my binding exactly the way you do. It is so simple. The biggest thing is you have to use caution to notpull and stretch either side. I also sew my binding on exactly as you do, also using the center of the edge of my foot as my guide. (I, too, have a Juki TL2010Q, and I love it.) I always have a lot of missed spots on the back when I try the stitch in the ditch method.

Thank you so much for this video. It confirmed that what I doing was fine, but seeing the binding pressed beforehand was a real eye opener for me. I will define try it the next time.

I prefer adding the binding back to front. If it’s an important quilt or a gift or a show quilt, I press every step as I do it. Nice demonstration Tiffany you’re a born teacher.

Wow! Attaching the ends of the the binding strip, the way you demonstrated, seems a lot easier, than the way I did it. My binding sometimes was a bit lumpy. Thanks Tiffany. Well done.....Barb

This is a great tutorial! When trimming your binding strip to finish, instead of cutting it exactly at 2 1/2” or 2 1/4”, cut it 1/8” shorter and you won’t get that pucker at the end of you seam. Hope this is helpful.😊
@TiffanysQuiltingLife

I usually do cut it shorter when I am not on camera cause I guess sometimes or cut funny the first time then straight it out and it's shorter.

Thank you, Tiffany, for the tutorial! I typically do the second option but hand sew on the back. Since I’m falling behind on the quilts that still need to have the binding put on I’m gonna go try the first way now! Thanks again.

I’ve blinded all 3 ways and it is easier and looks neater if you press before sewing. I don’t always think to do the ironing part, but it does help a lot!

Binding is fun for me. A way to say a happy farewell to my quilt. On special quilts, I like to hand finish. I also use decorative stitches to finish over stitching in the ditch. 🎶💐💖

hiya Tiff! Love all your tutorials! Interesting gizmo by Quilting Hearts. I have seen a demo where they used two oversized (2.5 or 3") safety pins directly onto the ironing board about 8 inches apart where the binding was fed through the two pins with the iron between them.

Love the third table runner binding method. Did not know if you ironed poly batting it will flattenen (it melts?) so that's really useful information.... Thanjs!
@TiffanysQuiltingLife
@TiffanysQuiltingLife 6 месяцев назад
Yes it melts flat. I learned it when I made my 3rd or 4th quilt. I had bought a bag of poly batting used what I needed on the quilt and when I bound the quilt it was kinda sloppy cause I was new to quilting. So I pressed the edge around the quilt. It went flat around the whole edge. The middle of the quilt stayed puffy haha. It looked funny.

Tiffany, I am like you. I cannot sew straight in the ditch. My first time, I did it like the second way. I was so displeased with how it turned out. I ripped it all out and started over. Lol that really frustrated me because I absolutely hate ripping any thing out. I am going to try your first way on this quilt I am working on. Still in the piecing faze but will let you know how the binding turns out. I am new to quilting and am loving your videos. So precise and leaves nothing to the imagination. Thank you so much. I have a suggestion with the missing parts of the 2 1/4 inch binding. I use a decorative stiching so no one can tell if I did or didn't. Also I learned with junk journaling if something is wiggly on a piece thats sewn you add 2 more so its looked like its done that way on purpose.

Which way would you bind your competition quilt?
@TiffanysQuiltingLife
@TiffanysQuiltingLife 6 месяцев назад
I do the same as method 1, but I don't sew off the corner. Instead, stop a .25 inch from edge and back stitch. Then break thread. Same fold of the corner, but I start a .25 in from edge. That way I get a almost perfect back miter as well as the front. I also sew a smidgen slower on the front top stitch to help me get a consistent 1/8 from the fold stitch. I hope that made sense 😊
