BTR is so underrated in the sitcom realm, this show felt unique with how it doesn't use laugh tracks for its humour and because of that BTR always stood out to me as a kid. the music still fucks too.
The laugh tracks are replaced by the most random sound effects though LMAO but it's still fun to watch (Edit: Thx for the like Zach :) And very well done on the video! I've been waiting for a good long BTR retrospective)
I never consciously noticed it either until this video pointed it out! I think it might be why I couldn't get into some of the other nick shows airing at the time but absolutely adored this one.
Gustavo’s assistant on the show was not meant to be a main character by the way, she wasn’t even supposed to have lines originally, just was supposed to make Gustavo look more official. They liked her so much they decided to make her a lead, hence why she wasn’t shown on the main title intro in the 1st season.
god im so glad this video is a thing. ive wanted a big deep dive into this series for A LONG TIME. Although your recaps are great, its too bad, but also a blessing that you cant include every joke and gag. gives new viewers something to see! Oh also I THINK Ronna just likes free things so she enters lots of contests all the time just because ALSO Fun Fact: the series was created by Scott Fellows. Who also created Johnny Test. Which is why there are a TON of Voice Actor cameos. Like Tara Strong playing the PalmWoods teacher, Rob Paulson playing The Evil Coffee Machine AND Super Parrot, and Phil LaMarr playing George Hawk. And that isnt even all of them
Thank you for watching! And yes Scott fellows had some other projects that were very popular. Since he worked on fairly odd parents there were a ton of crossover actors there too (Tara Strong and Daran Norris just to name two)
they were THE boyband fr i was so obsessed with them between the ages of 12-15 it was unreal, even flew to the US to see them in concert and had a meet & greet, honestly THE sweetest guys ever, their hugs were amazing, they smelled SO good and even laughed because i was fangirling so hard. one of my absolute fondest memories from my teen years. Also cover girl and invisible were the songs i needed the most when i was 13 and they delivered!!!!!
big time rush has been my favorite show since i saw it for the first time as it was airing, and i've seen it more times than i remember to the point where i can see a single clip or hear an offhanded joke and know exactly what the episode is and the plot(s) of the episode. combine this with my love of retrospectives...i love you and i love this video. thank you for making the exactly what i've been looking for
This is your first video? It's so impressive! I've been wanting to watch this for awhile now but waited until I had the time to lol. Big Time Rush was my favorite show growing up and I still have a lot of love for it today. Shows like this and Victorious made me invested in music and now I do it as a career also:)
Dinner ready, headphones in, BTR retrospective on the screen. Oh we're so back. Seriously though I was scrolling for so long and finally have a good video I can watch throughout the week! Thank you haha
I really enjoyed this. Your video naturally draws on the style of some of the other nostalgia recap videos on the platform right now, but it’s elevated (pun intended) by your musical background and clear passion/personal connection to the music and the show. Cannot wait for part 2 !
The fact that this was your first video and it was this good honestly makes me want to create something similar about franchises I am passionate about, but… I don’t have the time for that 😭 jk unless?
this is an amazing video, i had a blast watching this. thank you for the trip down nostalgia lane and for the thorough retrospective and for highlighting all the funniest jokes!! really made me feel fond for this show again. this video deservers more than a million views, i was shocked when i saw its only at 10k. the quality is fantastic!!!!
got to see them on tour and they were spectacular🫡🫡 what an amazing video!!! i felt like i was a kid again watching for the first time🥲🥲 can't wait for pt 2
Omg I love this video so much!! Btr never misses, whether it comes to the show or the music. I’m so glad they’re back touring again. Can’t wait for part two! Also, I just wanted to say that I LOVED the Goldenrod City theme and the Sinnoh lakes theme from Pokémon as background music for this. The nostalgia was unmatched
1:39:22 omg stop back in school my best friend and I would talk about Kendall’s freakishly long arm on that album cover all the time like that boy has reach
2:53:26 I think the joke was that Joe would be one of the celebrity guest in the Christmas programme that we didn't see. Also, I think it's might just be random joke that's funny because it's so random. And my final, least likely theory: iCarly had came of Michele Obama in one episode, so maybe that's somehow deep cut reference to that
I think the idea in the pilot is that the prank is them turning a mechanism that turns on sprinklers, therefore flooding the field hockey girls practice area 🤔 I could be wrong though. Love having a new video about one of my favorite shows growing up
4:23:35 I don’t know if it was still a rule at this point, but I know in the 90s and early 2000s American broadcasting networks were forbidden from showing real world merch of a product within a show about to, that’s why every Yugi-Oh card got digitally altered in the dub. Perhaps for that reason they couldn’t use a song that would actually be on the album
Such a well written and edited video. Took me a few days but watched the entire thing and loved it. I was waiting for a good retrospective on more of my favourite childhood shows and I am subbed, looking forward to part 2. Amazing Job❤
i remember being in 5th grade at a private school where none of the kids in my grade were allowed to watch nickelodeon besides one & me and him would talk about BTR every week as the episodes aired (,:
BTR was for me what One Direction was to the rest of the world and it always made me sad that no one talked about it. Your breakdown is SO good and I can't wait to see your part 2!
one thing about this show that always stood out to me is sure there were sets, but they were full sets, not "2D" and every shot is unique, unlike iCarly and Victorious where everything is pretty much always shot from the same angle. edit: also love how you made full segments about the music itself, as it's genuinely some of the best pop music i've heard and nobody will hear me out about that
Disney seems to be in the lead ATM. Disney has 5 Keyan Carlile retrospectives (Lab Rats, Mighty Med, Elite Force, Wizards, Suite Life 1) and Mr. Nostalgia’s Kickin’ It. Nick just has Quinton’s videos and this.
oh, the way you spoke about how different btr was ( cartoon sound effects, fast pace, no laugh track ) really articulated why this show stood out to me and why i found myself coming back to it! love your commentary, so insightful and full of personality! cant wait to see more from you 💖💖💖
It is very much a Scott Fellows trait. He made it work for Ned’s Declassified too. Ironically when he applies it to cartoons (Johnny Test) it DOESNT really work.
The fact this is your first video is unreal! It feels like you've been doing this a while and have already found your personal style. Looking forward to the next part and what your gonna do next.
Big Time Rush is really unique for its time, it didn't really get to stand out when it release at first due to other popular Nick sitcoms taking the crown, but now, I think this show being different and unique contrast to other sitcoms is what I think makes it better than the rest. One, It had no laugh tracks and use music which is very creative. Plus, the characters made it feel like they're best friends, and the actors delivered a stellar performances. Also, maybe its just me, but I love most of BTR songs; they're memorable and sometimes can get stuck in my head for how catchy it is.This show I had a solft spot for back in the early 2010s, and is quite nostalgic. Seeing a 4 hour retrospective on this underrated gem of a sitcom is truly something I wanted see, and you did a great job diving in depth to this unforgettable masterpiece.
Same thing happened to Ned’s Declassified. It was largely overlooked when it was airing but now gains way more love as one of the best and most unique shows on the network.
I'm not taking any Kendall slander for being too normal!!! He wasn't boring, he was my favourite character 🤣🤣 This video also made me want to listen BTR again, its been YEARS since I last liste to the music, will I still like them as much as I did? lol
I love their new music, I think they’re killing it but they still play their old songs. There’s even some old songs on the deluxe version of the newest album.
the fact that this is your first video is crazy, i was so shocked to see nothing else on your channel when i finished!!! im eagerly awaiting the next part, this was insanely good
the creator of this show, Scott Fellows, is an absolute GENIUS when it comes to kids/pre-teen tv. you should definitely watch Ned’s Declassified if you get the chance. it has relatively the same vibe as BTR and still holds up today. also the guy that also plays buddha bob, Daran Norris, is a recurring character on both of the shows too! love the video!!
The best thing a show or movie can have is the feeling like it has passion behind it.. everyone was so energetic and seemed like having a blast there it’s infectious
I think why I liked this show so much is that the characters weren’t so malicious, in the Schneider sitcoms everyone was just always so mean to each other but this show is so much more wholesome and light-hearted + the music was actually so good Anyways thanks for the video, I’m excited to follow your RU-vid journey! 😊

10/10 video i love you for reminding me of this masterpiece from my childhood and sending me on a binge listening of their albums. Can't wait for the next video
THE JOKE IN 54:51 is that Kendall says he has a "thing" for Jo and then cuts to Kendall giving Jo this metal "thing", as in he literally had a thing to give jo lol
this only having 7.4k views is a crime; you having less than 300 subs is even more of a crime! BTR was one of my favorite shows growing up, I was 11 when it first started airing here in the Netherlands (2010), and I partly blame BTR for my love of boybands even now. They were my gateway into Kpop, in a way. And, It was thanks to them that I even discovered 1D, They joined them on the Better with U tour. That's where I first heard about 1D, that's even why I gave them a listen for the first time.
Dude, like, a week ago I suddenly remembered BTR show existed and decided to rewatch couple of episodes and haven't noticed how fastly I started binging it. And then it turns out there are some guy who decided to upload 5 HOUR review on BTR AS HIS FIRST VIDEO A MONTH AGO. This is what people call fate, right?
Only now realizing how many cute weird little references for all ages was in this show... and the Ned's Declassified cameos are so fun! (Buddabob and the immigration agent are literally the same characters as in Ned's, a janitor and vice principal)
Also, the actress who played Mercedes Griffin also played the exact same character on Ned’s. And Carlos had a cameo as a spelling bee champion in the first season.
This video is criminally underrated, I'm so glad you gave BTR the attention it deserves!! Can't wait for the second part. I'm surprised we're around the same age tbh, I always see people significantly older than me covering these shows and it's refreshing seeing someone who was also a little child when BTR was first airing 😂
Thanks so much! Yeah I literally watched Big Time Rush and Yo Gabba Gabba at the same age I guess I just liked the cartoony sitcom stuff even as a little kid
This really gotta be my favorite RU-vid genre now and I blame Quinton reviews for this trend of long ass show retrospectives that I can’t stop myself from watching. Looking forward to Part 2 for sure and I feel like for me I didn’t really like the show but those songs were WAY too good which kept me watching. Windows Down is definitely their definitive Summer Song
The episode where it's commented that Kendall and Jo look like siblings is the one where BTR stuck in traffic on their tour busses and Kendall discovers hate comments. It's also the episode Victoria Justice guest stars in.
@@zachbennett9134 Daren Norris is also known for some voices that are quite familiar from the fairly odd parents. Cosmo, Timmy’s dad, Anti Cosmo and Jorgon.
I usually don't find physical humor funny but this show is the exception :D Also, I forgot how consistent the show was with its lore. I loved it as a kid when shows didn't just handwaved things away and tried to make callbacks.
i’ve been on a huge binge of nickelodeon retrospectives, this came at the perfect time. this video and the editing are so good. i love your jokes and its so great to relive the nostalgia. i remembered so many of these plots as you explained them
SoCal in the 60s was big on surfing and drag racing, it was such a huge thing that the two crossed over a lot. Many carsploitation movies made at the time had surf music in them, but a showdown would either be a race or a fight or something like that. Those movies were barely over an hour long and sucked (I love them) The beach episode uses a lot of those tropes.
55:05 in this scene, Kendall says he wants to go see Jo because he “has a thing for her”. Usually when people say this phrase they mean they like that person in a romantic sense, but for this joke, he literally “has a thing” to give to her, and that’s why it’s just a random object, or “thing”. It was a play on words, trying to say that he liked her (by using a normal phrase) but then they also make a physical joke with it as well. Hope I explained that well lol
I am having such a fun time with this. BTR was a success yet so few people actively discuss it since it wasn’t under shows by “the creator”. Nevertheless, this video projects gives me a great rush of nostalgia! I wish you the best.
2:11:14 Im sure you'll find this out in part two but this actually sounds a lot like the series finale. Carlos meets a spy at an award show BTR is performing at and the episode ends with them dating. Also the actress that plays the spy (Alexa Vega) ends up marrying Carlos Pena in real life, and one more fun fact, her role as a spy is a reference to her time in spy kids as Carmen!!❤ great video!!❤❤
3:11:44 Annie is actually a guest from actor Gage Golighty, she played a character from another Nickelodeon show running at the time along with btr called “The Troop” she played the character Hayley Steele, which the show also has an hour long retrospective
i wont lie. that moment when logan's hand finds another hand and the romance music kicks in, and logan goes "oh" has stuck with me for years. he sounds so impressed and pleasantly surprised, like that isnt just his disembodied limb.
Hey, this was a great video man! BTR actually came to my campus for a mini-concert and the tickets sold out in just over a half hour. I didn't get to go; but the atmosphere was ELECTRIC and all four of them looked like they were having a blast performing again.
