There’s a significant portion of the population that doesn’t see with both eyes or who has trouble using both eyes together (amblyopia, strabismus, nystagmus, cataract in one eyes, crossed eyed, lazy eye, etc).

😢this made me cry. I’m 70 yrs young and have never been able to do sports. I can’t throw a ball in a pail 3’ away from me and never knew why. Now, I have double vision. My regular optometrist told me that the best thing to do is to get used to it. I asked about eye exercises, and he said no, there’s no such thing. This was 3 years ago. Needless to say, I couldn’t get used to the double vision. I’m just now realizing Ive had very little depth perception. I’m doing vision therapy now and I saw something in 3D the other day. I couldn’t believe it!!

You are impressive! You made this very informative video in 3 languages!!! You must be so proud, I've been having binocular vision issue for years, and my doctors sent me to see a shrink just because they had no knowledge on the matter.

Thank you for making this cause I have dealt with visual impairment issues for my whole life. I was born with a cataract in my right eye which caused me to lose most of my vision in that eye and growing up I had problems with walking down stairs, playing sports and etc and even know, I have problems driving, parking and etc. This makes me so happy that other people see the way that I do.

Mostly corrected lazy eye here. I did not realize until I was 30 that I lost my binocular vision. All through the 90's I could not see Magic Eye pictures. During an eye exam I asked if my optometrist if she had a 3d test and when I could not see the fly's wings pop off the page I knew something was wrong. I am turning 50 and through your language videos I found your eye videos. Thank you for showing me I can work towards better vision.

I wish I could sue someone about this because not only is my BVD congenital, it's severe enough that depersonalization, brain fog, headaches, and fatigue are just given constants to my life. I was diagnosed with ADHD and Autism for crying out loud! I'm 24, lost out on scholarships and various other opportunities because my brain is overworked from not just life, but also being overtaxed by my eyes.

Oh my god this made me cry. I feel so, not alone anymore. All these methods to deal with it, such as the rain or the feeling around because I just, am scared of falling. Our kitchen has this little step. As a toddler, my mom told me I would always get on my hands and knees and back into the next room, and then get up and run again. I would always get hit in the face in sports, so much to the point where I didn’t even get phased by it. I bumped into everything growing up and was made fun of and bullied for being clumsy. Even though I had straight A’s, I HATED reading because it felt like the words were crawling. I was told it was Dyslexia and ADHD And was put on a plethora of medications for ADHD. In school, teachers would yell at me for “not looking at them” And it just honestly hurt so much because I didn’t know what to do. I had my surgery at 2 years old. And my mother said that the doctors told her only about surgery, and she felt guilt because a different optometrist told her there were other alternatives to surgery after I already had it. And I was NEVER told about this until last year. I was 21 This was such a relief to watch (I commented on the news interview video but did not see this one until now) Because I never understood growing up at all what was going on. I could see fine to my knowledge. But no one ever talked about what they saw cuz we all just assumed it was the same. I have this insane fear of driving because I’m afraid I will crash. And thus I never went for my license My family never understood the fear, and frankly neither did I. I just was petrified So when I found out that I had no depth perception by a new and random doctor, I was hit with a mix of feelings all coming in the end together to reach a feeling of being alone. I have never met or heard of people without depth perception What does it look like? What do people who have depth perception see? But yeah. This was so relieving because it just felt so, validating. Thank you.

You are welcome! I have asked people who have developed depth perception as a result of vision therapy to explain how their vision has changed. They say that they can see the space between themselves and objects and people around them. But to those of us who can't see the space, a description of it is not understandable. It's important for people like us to speak up. I have other family members with the same condition. So it could be that you have relatives who also lack 3D vision and like you, they don't know why they have trouble with steps, sports, driving and more.
@katiichloe3919
@katiichloe3919 6 лет назад
CreateYourWorldBooks I see. I don’t know how to explain it but that’s just a weird thing to think about LOL like, “wait but don’t I see the space? Or do I?” But I do know I rely very heavily on shadows for reference as well. I look at shadows more than I look at people LMAO With eye therapy did it like, develop for you? Did you develop depth perception? Also I’m not sure if you know of simulation sickness, but it was a thing pilots got in flight sims But in the gaming community, it’s also a thing. I love video games so much but I have ALWAYS had severe simulation sickness. I get so dizzy and such a bad headache. Some games give it more than others. Games with an eagle eye view rarely give me simulation sickness. But first person view is the worst. Do you know if that’s related/have you ever experienced something similar?
@katiichloe3919
@katiichloe3919 6 лет назад
CreateYourWorldBooks also motion sickness as well. I cannot ride any sort of vehicle without getting a severe headache and then nauseous. Closing my eyes helps tremendously. My family all has vision problems, and I know my dad does have issues with depth perception. My sister and mother do not though.
@CreateYourWorldBooks
@CreateYourWorldBooks 6 лет назад
When I tried 3D video games, I was tired and felt like I was getting a headache. I haven't had motion sickness, but I know this is a common problem for people with binocular vision problems. With vision therapy, I did improve my visual acuity and could see some depth while in motion, but I did not develop stereovision. Results vary depending on the patient and other vision issues that the patient may have. I explain this more in detail in my book, "One-Eyed Princess". If you're curious, I suggest making an appt with a binocular vision optometrist to see if you are a candidate for vision therapy.
@katiichloe3919
@katiichloe3919 6 лет назад
CreateYourWorldBooks okay well that’s a relief I guess haha. The gaming thing. And the optometrist that told me about it suggested eye therapy and wrote me a referral but, I was in denial and like, this lady is craaaazy my eyes are fine. It almost felt like the following months were stages of grief and loss lmao And I hadn’t even gone near another eye doctor (or worn my glasses) out of avoidance and I guess, rebellion? I’ve felt alone and different in all other aspects of my life and I just didn’t want another to add to the list But i think it’s time I do see her again (the optometrist) because maybe it will help. At least more than pretending it’s not a problem ahah

My son has exactly this he was born with a right divergent squint and anisometropia and amblyopia and has been told that his condition will be unaware to himself he had no binocular functions no 3d vision they are not taking it seriously and have been dismissed on many of my questions with he cannot miss what he has never had he's 3 years old and was born like this he's developmentally delayed speeches delayed acts out and is frustrated mostly. I've requested to have better understanding of what my son sees but just get told he will have no problems doing things or any extra help from school etc . Thank you for this video I've been searching for days more about his condition and you have answered alot of my questions that have not been answered by specialists since he was born.
@andrewwilliams1857
@andrewwilliams1857 Год назад
If he's anything like how I was, then it's possible that he's not delayed developmentally, his eyes are just overworking his mind that much. His frustration comes from always working through life with an already tired mind, and there's not enough awareness about this condition to catch it and correct it efficiently.

I too have strabismus, as do my two sisters, a niece and some cousins. We all grew into healthy adults with normal lives. Your child will too. I hear you! I understand! I have 2 children with special needs. They are now adults. Both are married and working. I remember how scary this was as a young mother. It was hard to believe that my little ones would one day grow up and lead normal lives. But they did. Take a deep breath. You did not cause this or ask for this. But you will get through it. Most developmental delays resolve over time. I am an early childhood special education teacher. The speech delays are the most concerning issue for me. And it may be a separate issue from the strabismus. Has his hearing been tested? An inability to communicate can be very frustrating and can cause a child to melt down. Speech issues can also affect early reading. Your local school district is required by law to find and help children with developmental delays. The district should have testing and therapy available for pre-schoolers. If there are other issues the testing should pick it up. Your pediatrician should also be aware and watching for developmental issues. Your doctor is correct about your son. His vision is normal to him. He will adapt. Vision therapy is not covered by insurance. It is somewhat controversial and lies outside of traditional medicine but I would consider trying it. I believe that the brain is more plastic (adaptable) in young children. If your ophthalmologist wants to surgically correct it, I would opt into that as well. My own personal study suggests that the two should be tried together. Socially eyes that at least look like they work together is a big plus. And you may be able to get a really good correction that gives him binocular vision. Again the earlier the better. Sports that require strong hand-eye coordination may be hard. Try swimming, karate or the arts but don’t hold him back. If he wants to play soccer or baseball, let him try. He may need more time to adjust to activities that are visually complex. Be patient, help him if you can. Encourage him to keep trying. Continue to be his advocate but be reasonable. Do not allow your fears to become his fears.

Some days after I had my first trip of LSD, I started to see duplicated... Then I realized that I was stereoblind before cause my brain only saw with one eye at a time, and then I realized my brain was recognizing both images at once, I just needed to know how to fuse then... Then I started to make exercises, like puting an object near your nose and try to "decipher" how those two 2d images could make a 3d perception of depth... I had some bad time doing it... Sometimes it seemed nearly impossble... Then I kept trying a lil more and some day I just saw a random object while training, and the feeling is like "hooooly shit, this was right there all the time, I just didn't treated the images with the right approach before"... And still today my 3d vision is improving more and more, naturally...

@annadavis2547

I too have strabismus. I have had two surgeries and developed amblyopia. I have never had binocular vision. I have only been tested once for depth perception with the 3-d fly picture. I failed. I did a research project on strabismus as a university student. I read about vision therapy but I had never been offered it and was curious. There was an example that showed a picture of a bird in one eye and a cage in the other. One was supposed to put the bird in the cage. I saw a bird and then a cage but couldn’t merge the two images. I did do pencil push-ups and wore prisms after my first surgery at 14. I had my second at 28. This doctor did not offer and vision training. I too was terrified of driving. I often would ride in a car with my eyes closed because the sunlight would hurt my eyes. Drivers Ed was a nightmare class. Yes I can see the object, I am not blind. But the motion between myself and another object is visually overwhelming. When the other object is also moving, I am slower to adjust. My teacher did not understand that I needed a ton of practice with stable objects before trying to cope with traffic. I took the class at 16 but did not have a license until I was 23. Stairs are not the only problem with personal mobility. Hiking presents challenges. Because I cannot judge the distance in height, I am unsure of my footing. Uneven pavement makes walking on the street difficult . I recently fell and broke my arm because of it. It also causes fear of heights. My niece who also has strabismus hates swings. Bumping into things, other people or tipping things over is a common occurrence. Sometimes I must pickup an item multiple times because I am slightly off on the objects placement. I agree with your description of being lost in space. I also agree that there are social implications as well. When your eyes are not aligned people do not take you seriously. They assume that you are inept, stupid or uninterested. This creates a feeling of alienation and loneliness. Bullying is a common problem and can cause anxiety or self isolation. And while this problem is not as difficult as some disabilities, it does have life long consequences. An issue you did not mention was in the area of medical records. Because most of our treatment occurred as children, our records disappear and as children we did not understand all the tests or treatments we received. I have had other eye doctors ask for these records and they are lost or destroyed.
