I love what you are doing, I have been doing humid bioactive enclosures for some time now, but recently set up a desert bioactive vivarium for our leopard gecko with your tankless kit. It looks great, and our gecko displays a wider range of behaviors! Your Terra Sahara is a game changer!
I can vouch for the BioShot. And yes, I tried to order springtails from another vendor and guess what, no live springtails arrived. Shipping price sucks, but what good is cheap shipping when there's no product? Bio Dude never disappoints. You definitely want the overnight shipping and it's worth every penny. Trust me.
I'm new to all of this but I have learned so much in a very short amount of time. I'm excited to see how fast your business continues to grow and hopefully more people will learn the proper way to care for these animals. You can't beat a natural biological setup, it just makes sense.
I have my bioactive setup almost done for my hognose! I just need to order in the cleanup crew and the spineless prickly pear. My little boy looves digging in the terra sahara and it's so nice to see him already so much more active than when he just had aspen and a fake cactus. Handling and bonding with him his super important to me and I was so worried with going to bioactive that I wouldn't see him anymore but it's the opposite! He's out and about all the time, investigating everything. I did have to plant the succulents in terra cotta pots under the soil because he started to uproot them, but it's made my life easier when I have to unearth him for feeding. Seriously cant recommend your supplies enough!
Thank you Sainia. Feel free to leave a review here of your kit: www.thebiodude.com/collections/snake-bioactive-kit/products/hognose-snake-bioactive-kit
Thanks for the update on your venture Josh from the UK!!! I know you will do well because you have a great passion for nature, and u won't cut corners in quality. Grt stuff, more vids when u can. All the best dude!
Henry Campoverde yes they will do fine as they norish the substrate. You will have to include leaf matter and wood for them to feed. Josh has good vids on the cleanup crew of the vivs and what they require. Look into Joshs vids as he really does know this subject as its his passion. Hope this helps pal.
The changes to how you ship the custodians is an excellent idea. Would have been a major stumbling block impossible to overcome as time went on. Thanks for the tour !
I have since watched about a half dozen more of your videos...this is exactly what I love about keeping animals....doing my best to create an ecosystem and watching it grow....
Oh I am so stoked to be able to get this in Canada. I love what you do and I think your company is absolutely amazing. Keep it up Dude and best of luck ♡
So pretty!! Im waiting for my new tank shelf to be made so I can finally transfer my lil babes to their new big tanks! Then I can finally order from you! Can't wait ^^ I think my corn snake would absolutely LOVE it. Should I still put a UTH on the side of my corn snakes tank?
Thanks for the support my Dude. I really appreciate it! I am sorry your moss was not to your standards, my Customer Service took good care of you right?
Great video! I really enjoyed getting a look into your company and seeing how things work. It was also very interesting to see all of your setups! I am wondering if you could do an in depth video on your fire skinks though? I have four and I want to make them a natural setup but there isn't a whole lot out there on this species lol
Trying to research bearded dragons (for my daughter) what would u recommend putting in the tank to make a complete ecosystem? Love these bioactive tanks!
Yo Josh, Would you mind doing a video on how to breed Agalychnis Callidryas? I've had them for years, read literature and watched alot of documentarys, but the tips and tricks are all opposite from where you hear them from, Some people say "You need to have a rainchamber for 2-3 months before they start" Others say you need to have dark 13 hours/day, some say flood the enviroment and other says it just happens, Red Eyed Treefrogs are my favourite animal, in fact I am moving to a huge house soon, and I'm planning on building a massive tank for a large group of them, 3 ft wide 3 ft deep and 4 ft tall. with a waterfall and huge tree branches. Take Care, and you're doing something amazing for the hobby
Hi! I love your work, and I really want to start a bioactive tank for my corn snake, but I have a question. How often does the tank have to be completely overhauled? Like, I understand that outside of misting, it's basically sold as a "set it and forget it" type of a setup. But while it's great that the bugs eat the snake poop, don't they in turn also poop? At some point, wouldn't the terrarium be (much like an old mattress and dust mites) nothing but bug poo? I have no problem sinking $250 into my corn snake's 40B, but I'm sort of just wondering how often I would need to 'reset' the tank.
I have a few questions. 1) Can I just buy the bioactive kits and few other things depending on the animals husbandry needs, or do I need more things. 2) Do I have to use the springtails and isopods you use in your videos. 3) Is there a certain way I have to decorate the terrariums, or can I just do whatever I want.
Hi Aidan, 1) You sure can, I have the website so you an either custom your own or just buy one of my own remade kits. 2) The kits include the Bio Shot, which gives you your bioactive drivers, you can add the bugs for sure if you want, but they are not 100% necessary to go bio in my kits. 3)You always want to decorate to their niches and needs. You come second after them...So, for example, if you are building a terrarium for a green tree python you want perches and not just flat cork pieces on the ground.
I noticed that your red eye enclosure was all water on the bottom. Is that recommended? I plan to purchase some from you in the next month or so. Should I do a paludarium? Thanks
josh, what LED lights do you use for plant growth? over in the uk the only one i have used is arcadia jungle dawn for my geckos viv, which is great, but i want some in my python wooden vivs that will attach to the roof (jungle dawn, i think, will break when climbed on)
I see that all your enclosures are connected to the same mistking. But don't some animals need less mist or more misting than others? Is that okay, and just wondering what are you timer settings?
how old are you? is your family wealthy for you to open these business? i mean no disrespect just curious how you start these business for person young as you...
I love watching all your videos. Super informative :^). It would be awesome if ya'll could ship your bioactive kits worldwide someday! -love and support from Colombia 🐸
Its not that much. Everything is on a timer and automatic misting. The Daily: Fresh water and feeding specific days of the week. Thats it. Maybe 2 hours every 2 days.
Did you say the substrate for the corn snakes was 9 years old?! So you don't have to change it? How is it maintained other than the springtails and iso pods?
Hi Kirsten. That is correct! Beneficial bacteria and fungi found in my BioShot helps with the decomposition process. I feed my bugs and soil biodegradables like leaf litter, spagmoss, and palm bark. As long as your biome is healthy and thriving you do not have to change the substrate, just keep "feeding" it.
I just started watching your channel, because I want to do bioactive tanks for my animals. Can you do a tank for green tree pythons? Or which of your videos that you already have would work for them?
Hey Will, Yes. That tank is thriving. That was actually for a good customer of mine (I hook up my locals if they let me shoot a video with their animals and I build their vivarium's). I will try and get an update and post it on here. Hercules video update is coming soon.
I was just on your website looking for dwarf white isopods and you were out 🙁 do you know when you will get some more? I talked to someone else but she said she had soil mites. She told me it's inevitable with a bioactive viv. Is this true? I didn't order from her cause I don't want mites. I am making a tank for my brazilian rainbow boa.
I never clean these tanks. They get fresh water every other day, feed few times a week and the glass cleaned weekly. Some of those substrates are 8+ years old.
Can anyone help me out? I dont have a bioactive set up but i have half of my bearded dragons tank a topsoil/playsand mix.. they seem to be doing okay but they have some dirt in their nose from digging... is this bad? Should i be bathing them to get this out?
Think high desert, not sand, and play sand really isn't the best for beardies. The biodude has great substrate for bearded dragons on his site, check it out and see what you think. Also, his substrate doesn't stick to your animals like a lot of the other stuff out there. Best of luck 😊
