In the bleak lands of the Tar Barrens, the dreadful Clatterjaw roams. Socials: Twitter: sawyerleeart Insta: sawyerleeart Patreon: www.Patreon.com/Sleeart Thank you!
Another winner. These really are the most nuanced and interesting dragons created. As an aside too, I like how you've actually made evil skull and crossbones armour that actually has a valid, cultural reason for its appearance instead of just 'Looks pretty evil doesn't it >:)'.
The friendly social nature between Clatterjaws makes for a really interesting contrast to their grotesque form and terrifying reputation. I really like that duality!
@@sawyerleeart I'm curious, might be tempted in sorta remaking/recommentating the first two episodes, maybe even the very first vid introducing folks to the series?
I feel like the targoers would commonly carry shields bearing the face motif, and the top of their wide-brimmed helments should as well. The more faces the better i suppose.
as horrific as these creatures are, their courtship ritual of gently monching on each other´s faces is genuinely kind of adorable lol. Reminds me of how some dogs will nobble on each other's faces as a sign of affection and submission
Don't listen to anyone who tells you that fresh land oysters are worth the journey because when you see what a maul does to a live animal...honestly you won't eat for a week. Those clatterjaws are horrid creatures and no amount of coin is gonna convince me to even think about trying to slay one. Love to see you upload man, fantastic work as always :)
Here’s an idea: if oyster pearls are valued in this world then a clatter jaw welp who failed to stop the immune response of the oyster get trapped in the Pearl wouldn’t they go for high prices in the market?
Scary... I can imagine being lost in the Tar Barrens and hearing distant clattering, seeing grotesque figures in the distance and knowing you're dead... Another amazing video, 3rd one I've watched so far. I love how each entry is not only about the dragons themselves but also about the region they inhabit, a bit of their culture and even other animals in the region.
That place is almost this size of what?! How big is this world hahaha. That island is just awful it's cold, poison, little to no food/water, bubbling tar and death. I love it!
I absolutely love this world. You've managed to combine the fantastical & realistic in a way that actually makes sense... I am impressed. I have really struggled with that in my own world. As I've made it more detailed, I've kicked out a lot of the magical things that kickstarted the whole project. I will totally use your videos as reference when I start making content for my worlds, you've really got it good with this project. Keep up the good work!
Wow, and I thought it was just a simple oyster nutcracker... But with a steamer included! On top of that, a total social master of perfumes and absolute stalking boogeyman! You literally pre-created a bleak, inhabited Greenland of Blemmyes. I simply adore every evolutionary detail you give to each of your dragons!!!
Theoretically, should a targoer or any human find a wandering baby Clatterjaw, could they try to tame it by letting it see the group as a ‘maw?’ Or would it be too dangerous
It's definitely an intelligent and highly social creature, so it should be possible theoretically. Although there must be a reason why the Tar-goers didn't seem to have domesticated them
I think out of all your various dragons designs this is by far one of my favorite, not only is it just such a cool idea for a dragon but they are just so creepy. Both their medium size and large numbers would be a nightmare to dear with or even be around. Having the clattering surround you from all angles, its such a amazingly terrifying trait of the species.
The 'Face' Method won't last much longer. The Clatterjaws will adapt and will travel in groups in order to make it ineffective, though terrifying as it seems, one might be ambush from behind while the other one distract it's adversary by being bait.
a great episode covering one of the most frightfully formidable dragons, can't wait for the Rattledread, Hellbasker, and Gaping Kilnneck to get their showcase!
I’m so glad I watched this video because I was always a huge fan of the art but never quite knew the depth of this series. As soon as I saw the hydraulic bite I was hooked
You know the landscape of the Tar barren looks empty hopefully in the next entry will be covered in a location full of wildlife like a forest, Perhaps the Blood Forest, or maybe exploring the nearest island Sicklemouth Island.
In that forests we might come across The Gaping Kilnneck dragon (Insidioscitor frondosus) or on that island we come across the Sicklemouth dragon (Gladiundus dirus) in either of those locations.
Keeps getting better and better. The clatterjaw is so unique in design and also I think your doing a great job at building this world and you explain each dragon.
Really love your vids, i know this one is older but rewatching it made me think of some stuff. How academically evolved are humans in your setting ? Do they know what Joules and survival rates are ? How deep is their understanding of mathematics ? Is everyone scholarized or are there a few engineers and researchers that know how to read and write ?
Thanks! Academics vary, some are advanced enough to possess engine tech! Generally most of the scholarly knowledge goes directly into weapons and defense over the factory approach earth had
What a fascinating creature!! It's easily better than the death angels in terms of horror movie potential. For one, its biology makes sense, and two. Its design is an incredible mixure of foul, nightmarish, uncanny, yet oddly majestic in a way! One of these fantastic beasts would fit perfectly on a heavy metal album cover! Astounding work again my friend!
This is one my personal favorite of your creations, I was hoping it would get a video. I especially love how much thought you put into the recourses it would take the dragon to make it's signature crushing jaw. Double layered egg+oyster is such a creative concept, love weird lifecycles.
*REMEMBER SLAYERS,* "always keep ye back to a wall when facin' those vile Clatterjaws. And don't forget to bring a Spooky mask, but not TOO Spooky. Lest ye be the latest stain at the mire."
Awesome video and even cooler art! Nice to see the audio is way better now, and pared with good ambient music and creature sounds make for an amazing and inmerssive experience. These dragons are some of the most interesting you have shown to date here, and the biome, oh my goodness that worldbuilding, its absolutely amazing! Love everything about this, great job and cant wait for more. 💙
I have an idea for you, this isn't a dragon idea but just an animal idea, a parasite that disguises as the tounge of a clatterjaw and cordiceps fungus's the dragons brain, basically zombie dragons, then it makes the dragon go to an oyster and open its mouth, the parasite, which is 3 times as long as a lamprey, then finds an opening of some kind in the shell, and slithers through, finds the soft body of the oyster and consumes it, then forces its dragon to lay an egg or steal an egg and put it in the oyster shell, the parasite lays an egg inside the egg, then the dragon and parasite either grow together and the parasite gets an immediate host, or if it's biologically possible and if you want, mutants? :) I just thought this was an interesting idea It also could lead into the belief of the dragons being the souls of the dead
As a highly social species they could just develop an individual to guard the oisters with eggs from intruders. It could be a big sister/brother helping their parents reproduce, a parent risking their own survival for that of its' young (possibly co-evolving to lay multiple eggs into a single oister), or an unrelated "babysitter" who serves as a watcher in exchange for food. OH! oh no... Forget everything I said. Their 'kissing' mating ritual would make the whole "tongue parasite" idea impracticable in the first place. Like, could you imagine: you just had the first kiss of your life and your crush publicly badmouths you so badly that everyone just gangs up on you and whoop your ass to death? And mfs still me that the worst thing she can say is no 😔✊.
When I heard you were making a RU-vid channel that would have profiles for the dragons in the codex, this was the one I had been waiting for. The Clatterjaw is such a great mix of terrifying and silly, with the absolutely bizarre biology and ecology that makes your setting stand out so much. That messed up lil freak has to be one of my favorite dragons in this project, definitely a top 5 at least.
@@josewayneoninguemd7740 This ridiculous bite strength is not achieved by powerful muscles or special bones strengthening the Dragon‘s bite as is the case for Saltwater Crocodiles ( 1.6 tons of force) or T-Rexes (6-7 tons of force) but through creating increasing pressure the longer the Clatterjaw maintains it‘s bite on the victim/prey. It almost functions like an industrial machine continually increasing the stress it applies on something through steampower or a vacuum
Same way they get into land oysters, bite it open to get to the squishy bits inside. I can imagine them shoving their heads in doorways and biting off chunks until they can fit.
@@shaynatang8888 alternatively they combine this with crouching down and squeezing through passages. Most of their height does come from having fully extended forelimbs and if they slouched over they would be significantly shortrr
I second this idea! Sounds very interesting. Maybe show different tactics an or strategy. Do you hunt and track dragons directly or could a slayer lay an ambush? Cheers
Im curious if there's a way to live...not peacefully nesscarily but in symbiosis with them. Just discovered your channel so ill be binging the rest of your videos!
i think you VASTLY overestimate the weight of flying creatures and underestimate the wing size required to lift an amount of weight. the largest flying animal in history that we know of was quetzocoatlus and it only wighed a bit over 80 kg despite being around the size of a giraff
While quite a few of the dragons are indeed way too heavy to fly with Earth like atmospheric conditions, your info on Quetzalcoatlus weight is outdated. Modern estimated put large Azdharchids at well over 200 kgs.
I stretch reality a bit in some aspects for the sake of the narrative, like flying weight and fire breath. If I went too parallel to reality they’d all look like Quetz which isn’t too fun🤔
@@sawyerleeart i disagree that they'd all look like a quetz totally but there would be a huge skew towards the same posture so that could make things quite same-ey
I really like the "Hyena Dragon", but I have one question. What is the weird structure on the undeside of the neck? A waddle, or some sort of chamber for water?
Both exist in an arms race! They can crush the shield of the Bastionback, who in turn can withstand the pressure for MUCH longer than other species- giving time for retaliation!
