40 MW Biomass Boiler Plant uses renewable resources to produce heat for the Elektrėnai region. Various types of biomass can be burned in the Boiler plant: wood chips, sawdust and lumber waste. The boilers operate on the fluidized bed principle. The biomass and the inert material - sand - are boiled in a stream of cold/hot air. Fluidized bed technology is recognized as one of the best for burning biomass. The efficiency of the boiler can be as much as 89%.
