Gracie McGonigal is a 19-year-old musical theatre actress who is making a big impact on stage and on screen. In this fifth and final episode of our RU-vid mini-series following Gracie McGonigal for one year as she becomes ‘bionic’ and pursues her career, she hosts a concert at The Theatre Cafe in London's famous West End theatre district.
Gracie McGonigal (Instagram: @gracelesleym) studied at The BRIT School and then at the Mountview Academy in London. Gracie filmed her first TV performance earlier this year in the much-awaited series The Power, which is soon to be released on Amazon Prime. In October 2021 Gracie will star as Wishy in Aladdin at The Lyric Hammersmith in London.
Born with a congenital limb deficiency, Gracie showed a natural aptitude for performance from a very young age. She has never regarded herself as ‘less able’ than anyone else and has worked hard to develop her talents to stand out from the crowd.
In 2020 Gracie was one of many young people in the United Kingdom who since 2019 have received a fully-funded 3D-printed bionic arm from Tej Kohli and his Tej Kohli Foundation. Today Gracie is one of the UK’s most promising up-and-coming stars of musical theatre.
The RU-vid series is the latest initiative of the Tej Kohli Foundation to use social impact entertainment to raise awareness of issues and to advocate for change. The mini-series seeks to highlight the role of new technology in building the confidence and prospects of younger people who have a disability.
