Larry is A CLASS ACT!!!! FROM. THE START OF HIS CARREER TIL NOW... LARRY YOU ARE THE GREATEST PLAYER TO EVER TOUCH A BASKETBALL!!!!! SERIOUSLY "THE LIVING LEGEND"!!!!!
Bird Swept Micheal Jordan in the playoffs, that’s With a Bad Back, Bone Spurs And a bad Achilles’ tendon, No disrespect to MJ, Hes incredible, Bird was unreal !
Every NBA Player should be mandated to learn the history of Larry, Magic, and Jordan to know who saved basketball and their own careers. Current players should be ashamed of how soft the game is now.
Spent some good times with Birdie. Drinking beer, golfing, shagging balls for him. Was fortunate to ride the bus and travel with those guys in 85 86. Games on the road and at home . Practices were the best! Even went to French Lick and stayed at the compound. Larry's mom made us breakfast one morning and it was just all so special. I'll never forget those golden days. All made possible by my good friend Bill Walton or as the Chief called him, WILLIAM!!
Hearing Larry Bird speak about his assistant coaches and his players. He definitely one hell of a player and coach. His basketball intelligence is really superb.
Building on what CandyMan said, Bird is an interesting dude. When he got to Boston, the big city, he had no problem with letting people think he was dumb. He genuinely didn't care. He was shy and didn't speak and reporters genuinely thought he was a dumb hick. There's a great Peter Vescey quote where he asks Bird, how come you never go over the record with me. Everybody goes off the record and he says I don't care, I never read what you write. Magic seems very, very much like he cares what people think of him like most of us do. Bird seems genuinely unconcerned.
I could have cared less about basketball. The only time I watched the NBA was when it was Celtics vs Lakers in the regular season or in the finals. Once Bird retired I haven't watched a game since. From what I understand I haven't missed much.
I have always been a fan of Larry Bird and his aptitude and ethics playing the game, and i am not even American. Looking at his fingers made me cringe and in awe at the same time, of how he was able to play at the highest level in the NBA. Respect indeed was earned!
Good comments. The scary thing about Bird's dead-eye shooting is Larry said after that serious finger injury playing softball with his brother, Larry said he never had the same feel for the ball after the injury! And yet he still is one of the 2-3 greatest CLUTCH shooters in NBA history.
I know Walton can be long winded, but you should never prevent a new Larry Bird story from entering the world. So even if he's boring you, let Walton finish the story!
Thank out for saying and I WANTED HIM to keep telling!!!!!! He is always smiling and laughing telling them and many won’t tell all that. SO CHEERS 🎉🎉🎉🎉 To Bill Walton and Larry ❤s him regardless of how other people think.!!!! Yes I get the time deal and others on stage too BUT WALTON IS A TRUE LARRY LEGEND #1 cheerleader, friend, confidant, got his back, FAN, AWESOME TEAMMATE and I’m thankful for how he was comparing Larry to the musical geniuses and THE CONCERTS . BECAUSE YOU CAN GET THE MENTAL PICTURE OF ANYTHING RELATED TO LARRY OR RELATING. BECAUSE HE DOES NOT GET THE PROPER CREDIT EXCEPT FROM MANY OF THESE GUYS. Old School competitors respect is huge and given BECAUSE THEY WITNESSED IT ALL AND like was said about the back-brace, the pain pushing through what many didn’t know if they didn’t see or hear BECAUSE STATS DO NOT SHOW ALL THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eat that JJ Reddick 🤬🤬🤬 sorry been mad lately for his junk. Guess because I played the game too had to overcome tons of obstacles and Larry was my dad’s favorite and he wanted me to be a boy and we would be shooting at 12 am etc in the freezing cold and I had injuries then and more now and I’m a 1st Responder and degree in sports medicine so I FACTOR IN EVERY DETAIL that “STATS” and PAPER DO NOT SHOW AND MANY TELL HIS STORIES NOT TELLING HOW HE DID ALL THAT AND WHAT HE WAS GOING THROUGH AND STILL SMOKING THE COMPETITION AND LOOK IP RECENTLY what the Pacer guys said about him when they were stretching before practice and he comes out of the office starts shooting and all SWISH SWISH SWISH AND WAS ALOT OF SHOTS THEN WALKED AWAY LIKE HE WASNT IN NICE CLOTHES AND ANYTHING BUT JUST TO MOTIVATE OR FIRE UP OR INSINUATE THAT IF HE COULDDO THAT THEY COULD TOO............MY dad was a great player and excellent coach and he always said “LEAD BY EXAMPLE AND ACTIONS” not always words...... and that is exactly why Bill gets so excited to talk about him. NOTICE WHAT THEY ALL AGREED ON THAT There would be NO wins or great team WO Larry Legend!!!!! He pushed everyone in a good way even with trash talk. He motivated. AND HE WAS UNSELFISH AND WANTED IT TI BE A TEAM NOT A “him” unless it was to distract all the competition so his TEAM COULD SHOOT & win!!!!!!
I disagree with your sentiment generally but, the event was about tlarry bird and larry bird likes and appreciates walton therefore you kwt it go...if the event was about someone else then that changes ornif the person doesn't appreciate the long the winded walton ..personally i enjoy walton
@@jonjohnson1978. you said it right!!!!! Which also is why he was asked to be part of that. Jackie and Larry know how he is and wanted him there for that. PLUS HE IS LIKE MAGIC ALWAYS SMILING. But I and my dad were both of their fans just saying
In his last four years of playing he had both his Achilles blew out he had back surgery and the most phenomenal thing was that all those stats that he has that are so amazing for of the years of that he was injured and I mean hell and he did all that in 13 years there’s a lot of other players who have better stats but when you look how many years they played against how many years he played you got to take a look at that you really do because he did all what he did in 13 years it’s amazing
Thank you Larry for all of your hard work, and for not giving up. You are a mentor that will live forever. Really. So, I am from Indiana have lived in tennessee for 26 yrs very proud to mention you to my friendsand family. Thank you again I know that you said it is a job, but what a job! Thank you sir! Mike .I lived in Indiana and was born in Indiana for 31 yrs ,went to state in track from Franklin Community High School. Took everything I had but, came in 11 th 3.29 mile relay. 1st was 3.26 So, I thought I would advance but, didn't. So very proud of you history. Your such a great player. Thanks again.
I LOVE listening to Walton absolutely Love him.. 2 Classic lines "WHY MARV ISN'T GOING 2BE HERE." Reference to him dressing up like a Woman in hotel room during Sex with a Hooker lol 😆 😂 THAT & "Jackie Go TO THE LADIES ROOM." LOL 😆 🤣 OMG HOW CAN U SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT ABOUT A WOMAN LMAO 🤣 😂.. IM SURE THIS IS A HUGE DEAL 2DAY OVER A JOKE...
I really wish Quinn woulda stopped trying to intervene as Bill Walton was telling his stories...For whatever reason u could tell Walton was getting on his nerves but I'm telling u he was the only one it was bothering...I wish he would have stopped interrupting and let the man tell his stories, he ruined it...Nothing personal but not everyone is a great storyteller like Bill is and maybe ur just a little jealous I dunno so I'd like to have this segment done over without Quinn getting so irritated...If you cant abide by that then maybe just go sit down in audience and if that bothers you then you could have simply left...? N I really respect QB but for whatever reason he just couldn't let the man do his thing which I was loving....With all due respect , for real.....
The real GOAT larry bird , you are the greatest among the great players in nba history past and present...you did it all ! THE ULTIMATE PLAYER !!! The great coach PAt Riley discribe you best ! Just watch Bird play...that's how you play basketball folks !
Obviously Jackie always did Legend right for they have a nice dynamic and he wouldn't have had all their dealings had she not been a straight shooter... I want Bill to tell more stories....Damn he's hilarious....I wish Quinn wild given the framework of his own story so Bill could tell it.
Larry was discredited a lot because he was white and many black players thought that was why he was given so much fanfare. I disagree it was because he played a complete game a very sound player and even Wilt said he played the game correctly. Larry played excelent defense and made unreal passes that and his clutch shooting put him ahead of MJ both MJs.
During college Larry and Magic played on an international team - for Joe B. Hall. They did not start, but the the heck out of the starters in practice.
I saw Eddie play when Spring Valley went to Washington Indiana. I remember Bob and Carl. It was a huge season. It seemed like every basketball fan in Southern Indiana had become a Sycamore fan. To this day my Dad is a Celtic fan because Larry played there.
You've been number 1 player since I was 10 yrs old and you came to Boston into our homes on the tv ,you grabbed a piece of our hearts ❤ and that will never change #larrybird
LarBurd is trending amongst jr high basketball players here in KC, that’s all they say when they practice! LarBurd.. over and over again.. it’s hysterical they love him!
You got to admit that Jackie Mac knows her stats she remembers everything she's obviously a Hoosier got to respect the journalist who does her homework
I haven’t told anyone but after Walt Frazier was sent to Cleveland (and retired) I watched all of the Celtic games and tried to learn about The Legend! I watched Larry Bird but couldn’t understand your Legend ability, brilliance, toughness, heart, human sense, fun...I’m almost 70 years old now (2019) I’m beginning to learn. I even made 8 of 10 shots on basketball a few days ago...I learned that it takes everything just to be Ok! I can’t believe what it takes to be a Legend. Larry you are the best that I saw in Basketball/life. Larry I’m trying to teach my 7 2/3 year old great grandson. Michael is understanding life, baseball and Basketball & more. Bird is a teacher and we’re both getting education & joyous... Love Bird’s compleat humanity, even though not perfect! Ken newsweb@msn.com
I think I finally figured out why I've fixated on Bird, a figure from my youth in New England: he was supremely competent, had real as opposed to fraudulent confidence, got shit done big time, and was obviously and deeply kind (off the court!). Quite the contrary to what we have now. Jackie rolled with Bird's great humor pretty well. She needed to maintain a little statue-dedication dignity, but she knew to let it roll.
Played with Boston his entire career. Not like todays prima donnas with inflated 3 pt scoring and changing teams every year respecting money more than the game.
My goodness. Was Bill in a manic episode or what? I want some of that wiskey he was drinking. Jackie Mac was a class act to not verbally take him to task. But we can all agree Larry Bird is the type of guy who can lead men and they will follow. Whether charging a hill in Vietnam or lead the team on the hardwood. Those type of men lead by example and the troops will do anything that is asked of them.

I apologize for my language, but if I were Bill Walton, I would have fucked up Quinn. Nobody gives a fuck about anything he has done in basketball. Like Bill Walton or not, he had his run in the league where he could not be stopped. He also was one of the best passing big men of all time.
I wont say I admire Bird , because I too understood how some people can take avoiding an innocent hug as being 'rude'. Some of us our not as dialed in to our emotional feelings as others. And if people knew anything about Larry and how his upbringing was difficult ... they shouldnt judge so quickly . Granted ...Magic was a kid and didnt realiize Bird meant nothing wrong in avoiding a hug...as he would learn how The Old School Ways of being raised was much more priceless then of his own upbringing. And Larry also has dealt with what 90 percent of us havent. . Losing his father and the circumstances of the way he was lost. Until you walk into someone shoes people shouldnt judge so quickly. All this said It was good seeing Bird being more annimated and in a comical type mood then I have never saw him like ever B4. I was raised in Laker country to where Purple and Gold were constantly around me . And there was me .. In my Green and White Celtics jacket .. My Larry bird jersey. my converse AllStar Birds shoe. My mom and grandparents moved to Southern Cali after she graduated high school. in Watertown Massachusettes .. which is roughly 12 miles west of Boston . So being that I spent a good majority of my childhood with at my grandparents ... and all The Boston sports teams was a written law passed down from my grandfather .. unto me. And luckily , the only sports teams that got TV time back in those days .. were teams that were above average. Celtics games were televised and the rest is history It was like being raised in a Hornets nest . Cause 99 percent of my fellow classmates were all about the all about The Lakers . So it made for great trash talk during the finals. And not just Birds play , but ALL OF THE BEST STARTING FIVE EVER ASSEMBLEDs play is what gave me many off 'one ups' after the Lakers and Celtics would play head to head . Which was twice during the regular season and then in the playoffs. . Much Love for Larry and although he is extrremely humble.. , it was awesome having him to look up to and put the question to rest ... if White people can play Basketball. . I tip my hat to you Larry and congrats on your career. Sorry about the C's sweeping the Pacers this year, Next year , Indiana will be a force in the playoffs that many wont wanna play .
@@healthyone100 But to a Hoosier, it's not BASKETBALL and therefore inferior - even though it is a Hoosier race. To put things in perspective, do a search sometime on "largest high school gyms" sometime. Hint - almost ALL of them are in Indiana, 2 or 3 exceptions depending on the exact timeframe - and that list you should find is normally "all gyms 7000 or more capacity" with somewhat more than 10 entries (commonly 14 give or take 1). Us Hoosiers for the most part (I've known a VERY FEW native Hoosier exceptions) take our basketball SERIOUSLY.
My favorite parts were the part with Bird's high school coach and Joe Kleine's stories. They, like Bill, hold Bird in high regard. Bird always speaks highly of his coaches.
