By any chance, were you a season ticket holder during the 80's Celtics? Because there was a woman I would see occasionally on TV at the garden wearing Celtic and Irish gear, I'm wondering if this was you by any chance
I love Nolan Richardson's story and how it actually seems to make Larry blush. With Russell and Magic, you can feel the admiration and respect for Bird, as he deserves. ❤️
I know that and don't know why it says Oscar (other than, I don't always have the best luck texting). My mistske. I will correct it. I loved Bill Russell...his laugh was magical. I watch videos of him, just to hear him laugh ♥️
I can see that story really being true he really did terrorize college basketball he was a one-man Wrecking Crew out there Indiana State was just him basically that's what's amazing about it I've never seen another guy dominate college basketball like he did. And on top of that when he went to the Celtics they were the laughing stock of basketball the first year I think they made the biggest Improvement ever for a guy coming in the league that's what kind of impact he really made probably the most impact ever of an individual people can talk about best all-around basketball player Jordan Colby blah blah blah but Larry Bird really is as far as all around basketball
I was born in 1968. Got to see them in the 1979 national championship game. I feel so fortunate to have witness these two save the NBA. Can you imagine Larry nd Magic practicing and the caoch says practice is over and they say about the other one I know he is still working on his game. I can't leave yet because he is still practicing. They definitely lived rent free in each other's heads.
@@Eagle7433Mama Bird raised him right. The story of the two having lunch together at Mama Bird‘s kitchen table still warms my heart every time I hear Magic telling it.
You can see and hear how much love that magic has for larry. A true friend. Its so hard to fine in this world today. Larry magic have a long life and a long friendship. 🏀🏀🏀🏀.
Bird influenced a lot of people including not just fans but other players, coaches. He played the game the way it is supposed to be played just like Magic said.
Magic and Bird together saved the NBA from tanking, it's a story Hollywood couldn't have scripted better, they both enter the NBA at the same time, one is white, one is black, Bird goes to the East side, Magic goes to the West side, both make their teams great, meeting each other three times in the NBA finals, both winning multiple awards during their luxurious career's, putting fans in the seat's selling out stadium's wherever they played on the road, the list just keeps going on and on, anybody that saw this from beginning to end was blessed to have saw it, you'll never see anything like it again in any sport, just wicked awesome!
Because it was scripted dude....all pro sports are scripted.....you haven't figured that out yet? It's in their Legal business documents.....the jokes on all that think it's real
@@Gregory-sm9pf No Billion Dollar biz gets thrown up into the wind...any CEO is gonna control the product to appease their clients.....the clients in pro sports aren't the fans.....It's Vegas and TV sponsors. They don't want lame games which happen often on true authentic competition.....they want made for TV BS......all rookies in all sports sign NDA's in their rookie contracts
@@SnowboardJedi ok but where are you getting this information, you know all that of it is factual? For that to be true, that would mean that your part of sports being scripted, you're involved with it, are you?
Magic one of the top players ever and so easy to say he was best at his position and same goes for Larry, and so good to see him and Larry become friends.
One of the greatest to ever play the game AND one of the best trash talkers! The 80s, 90s were the best era...the early 2000s were still pretty awesome then it declined imo.
Absolutely, Oscar is the greatest scorer in international basketball history… As he said, “I could score a point per minute in the NBA…”, nobody was able to stop him.
Grew up a Dr. J fan and always rooted against the Celtics when they played the Lakers. I will say this: Bird gets overlooked as one of the best. I'd take him over Lebron any day of the week. The numbers were similar, but Bird was a killer. You can't teach that.
Magic tried to get them in the Hall but they wouldn't wave the 5 year thing because Magic came back for a spell. NBA blew that one. Should've had only those two go in together that year and really celebrated they guys as the pair
I wish the game was still played the way it was back then. Damn I miss those days. I was blessed to live thru the greatest era in basketball. I was always a Magic guy but grew to love Legend and certainly appreciate his greatness.
Why diss MJ? It’s entirely unnecessary, lmao. Your passive aggressive comment shows your insecurity. Also: there’s plenty of stories about MJ just take 5 minutes to do your research and educate yourself.
@5:10 gawd how we hated Magic in the 80’s as a kid growing up in Boston. Now if I met him in person I’d probably pass out. One of the greats along with Bird.
Joker might the only player I've seen who consistently looks as uninterested in praise as Larry, the two always look like kids who got dragged to church lmao
magic and bird hated each other until they made a commercial together and they set down and talked about there child hood and it was so much the same then they became best friends
Had never heard of Oscar Schmidt and very surprised to see him in there. checked out his bio though, evidently not a bad player as well but still don't see the relation to Bird
Never was a bird fan in fact I hated the Celtics, all of’em every single one. It wasn’t until after Larry retired and the Celtics started to decline(yes, ha ha), the nineties were “birdless” finally. After he had left there was a void, not noticeable at first because we still had “air” Jordan & Pippen, Barkley, Wilkins, Ewing, Drexler, Olajuwon, Stockton & Malone, Shaq had just arrived and many others. But these guys and many others all played against Bird and to a man “toughest opponent ever” “pick a guy to win a game, Jordan…..pick a guy to take a shot to save my life, Larry Bird” - Pat Riley, Lakers head coach.
Just say it. Larry Legend WAS the NBA. HE made the games exciting. I’ve NEVER heard audiences chant any other player’s name, only LARRY LARRY LARRY LARRY LARRY LARRY LARRY LARRY.
Magic thanking GOD for survining A.I.D.S. when it was him selling his soul that kept him here. How did NO ONE question why he didn't die of A I.D.S. as many many did?
Im not sure what you’re trying to say?? I firmly believe that Magic catching the disease jump started research into a cure. He was so loved, nobody wanted him to die…I think he MIGHT (no proof just a hunch) have invested $$$ toward research himself. I do know that around that time there was a real push toward finding a cure…and Magic & a few other high profile people like Princess Diana, Elizabeth Taylor & Michael Jackson were doing public relations & some education regarding AIDS…at the very least they were doing their best to de-stigmatize the disease. If you have a different take, let’s hear it.
Larry is shy really, and even at this stage isn’t comfortable with the spotlight. You’ll notice that both Magic & Bill Russell got a big kick out of Coach Richardson’s surprise that Larry was in fact White! 😂 pretty much all of America was the same, since Larry wasn’t widely seen outside of his own local area before that time…
IF ALL THE GREATS ..... say that LARRY BIRD is the greatest ...... stop the qualifying remarks to the contrary and such nonsense and admit it as well !!!! Magic and MJ are truly great as well .... love them all .... have to give it to Larry Legend OVERALL. jj
2 of the greatest magic and bird i remember watching them growing up then Jordan came in i truly seen the greatest play the game when basketball was basketball
