OM Systems have recently released their 150-600mm lens giving MTF users an incredible 1200mm equivalence to full frame. Surely we can go further than that though?
So join me as I rock the Canon RF 2x Extender combined with my Canon RF 200-800mm for an insane 1600mm focal length at Upton Warren Nature Reserve.

Great video again! Love how you get distracted by the birds as you talk to camera! And as I always remark - smashing music too!

Thank you!! I'm constantly distracted by the wildlife around me. 😆 The amount of times I've been birding and ran into another birdwatcher, and we'll speak but never actually look at each other because we're both fixated on the trees or what's flying overhead. 😄

Cheers mate! Got really lucky with how close it wanted to come, must have been used to people being so close to the play area

You got some great photos as usual. Teleconverters can be helpful, but they do come with some downfalls like less sharpness and needing a lot of light, but you have got to love the reach!

One hell of a lot of light 😂 but great fun to use and absolutely, I can't argue with that reach at all

I would use the R5 with 2x converter to see if there is much difference due to more MP... I doubt it, the 24 of R3 is prob enough.

You're right though, the higher megapixel count would help show any inconsistencies of the lens a lot clearer, it would be a cool experiment to try.

F12.6 (not for exposure) versus F18 though....its rare us M43 users get to beat you guys in aperture 😂

That's a very fair shout 🤣 F18 was Rough!

@damianjohnwildlife Probably quite useful on a tripod if something is really far away though? Also for filming :)

@@JoeMaranophotography Oh absolutely, it was practically essential for the little ringed plovers, I would have been stumped without it

I have the RF 200-800 (I have an R6ii) and see no point in using 1.4x let alone 2x extenders with it. If you're not filling the frame with this then you're too far away and images will always be disappointing due to atmospheric issues even without any heat haze. More than 10-12m away is a waste of time especially for small birds. I don't know why anyone would choose to shoot from bird hides either when it's always nicer to get down low?

Heya! You've got a great point there about if you're not filling the frame then you're too far away. I intended for this video to be a bit tongue in cheek but when in use it actually surprised me by how useful the extender could be, particularly for the Little Ringed Plover. Did it impress me enough to the point I'd go out and get my own? No, not really but it was a good bit of fun for the day.
