Louisiana has many incredible birding locations, and different species that can be seen throughout the year. Join Ryan as he visits the state for the first time to see if he can eclipse the 100 species mark, while seeing some other interesting species along the way.

Good news, we have a bird... bad news, it's a house sparrow. Story of my life.

I love these kind of videos of yours! Not only getting to see a new state through your eyes (since I've never been to Louisiana myself), but also that you include reptiles and other kind of living beings! That's not so common on birding channels 🙂Looking forward to the next videos! I also share your frustration with "First Bird Of" being House Sparrow! I hate when the first bird of the trip is an introduced species, no matter where I go. It's way too often! I have turned to a snob when it comes to that, I don't count them. No "Rock Pigeon", Ring-necked Dove, Spotted Dove, Ring-necked Pheasant, Common Starling, Monk Parakeet or House Sparrow. Forgive me if I forget some of'em. I do count the correct looking Rock Piegeons where I've seen them within their original distribution. I guess it's easy for me to be a snob about it, when I have seen those species where they belong... That way it doesn't interfere with my global list! It interferes with my swedish list (I don't count Canada Goose, Ring-necked Pheasant or Rock Dove here.) and ofc my US list (if I wasn't such a snob about it my US list would be 626). I'm a little illogical about the US list, to be honest, I do count the Red-crowned Amazons I saw in Harlingen, Texas in 1997 and 2000!

Great vid! Always fun to visit a new state and restart the count! And it never fails for me too, the first bird wherever I go is also usually a house sparrow!

Two years ago my husband and I visited family down in Louisiana. We spent a week there but unfortunately I was just beginning to get into birding and didn’t make it a priority to try to get out and bird. I hope to have another opportunity to visit Louisiana so I can get some more birds on my LA life list.

Thanks again for another great video. What did Derek study at Nicholls State University? You both should be teaching filmmaking there! Loved the tutorial on oak trees, moss, snakes, toads, and "sallmann"ders. 🙂

I just drenched my pants and socks because of an American Kestrel that I just saw 30 mins ago.. I heard his kee-kee-kee-kee alarm call, and I thought It was a sharp shinned, so, I scanned the trees and finally spotted him on the top a dead oak stump, the snow was about 2 ft deep or so and I definitely don't regret going threw the snow to see him , I had my binos but I didn't take my camera... anyway! Great video! Hope you can see some rare or cool birds! 🦅🦅🙂

Thanks for sharing! It's nice to go somewhere different with someone who knows the area. Found a pair of Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks hanging out near a farm pond in Trempealeau County, WI this summer!

Woohoo! Once more in my general area, hehe; so great to hear all the noises I'm familiar with too - and NOW I know what a bunch of them are, so it's even better. Looking forward to seeing what all you discover and your thoughts!

The video and the place shown are very interesting, with very beautiful birds, some I know from seeing them, others from the book and some I did not have registered. I thought that in a place with forests near the sea you could see more species; where I live there is not much protected natural environment last week in 8 or 9 hours we saw 94 species

We weren’t by the sea at any of these places. All bodies of water in this episode were freshwater. But we did do some ocean/beach birding later on in the trip.
