Both are very different and their complex styles complement each other. Both are highly skilled and among the 2 very best on the planet however, once Bireli starts turning the tunning pegs he never gets it right the rest of the way which I think annoyed Sylvain nevertheless what an awesome display of talent I love them both.
Very funny moment at 9:37. According to what he plays (from 9:33 to :35 approximately), and the face he makes, it feels like Sylvain Luc thought that the next chord would be an E minor chord, except Bireli Lagrene goes back to the E major. I don't know which one is right, but it gives a funny eye to eye conversation : Sylvain : "What ? Major ? Sure 'bout this man ?... Ok screw it, who cares, I can't take a pause during my improv, I'm too into it" I would have LOVED to see how Bireli looked at him back (if he even did see Sylvain looking at him).
Well technically Luc is "wrong" since he plays G-A-B over Emaj7 which is the right chord at this time, and probably why he turned around surprisingly. Anyway you can still play a blues scale over a major chord, but not the other way around.
It's Bireli's error, unless it was intentional to make the song shorter due to the slow tempo. If you trace Sylvain's solo from 7:06 he plays A A B A, B A. Too bad about the tuning too which got worse at the end. Great playing by both nevertheless.
For most other people that would have resulted in a catastrophic train wreck. For them, it's just an ordinary "whatever" moment, and they move on from there. That's what it's like to be *that* good.
Spectacular ... I so dislike the tonal colour of Sylvain's guitar, but he made it sound super beautiful and smooth, exceptional :-) So nice ,,, horrible tuning issues for Birelli, but they did great and had fun
Looks as tho Birelli had a nightmare trying to tune on the fly, each attempt digging himself a deeper hole. Always heard it was very hard to tune this way, and usually ended in disgrace, unless one ha a parter like sylvain, who good-naturedly made it easy for Birelli to appear as though nothing was wrong, this tuning issue ws a scripted part of the show... Tuning is one of the least understood arrows in the quiver;when it's great, even a simple triad sounds powerful.
such an awesome interpretation... a song of its own... poor bireli... he had to go through that damn guitar not wanting to get tuned... although it has been quite obvious that bireli failed several times at tuning his guitar...they still somehow managed to work around and make the performance beautiful nevertheless... From a musical point of view i really do love them :-)
The de-tuning and re-tuning might have been intentional. It is possible, maybe even likely. Do you seriously believe Bireli Fucking Lagrene would ever consider touching a guitar that didn't stay in tune? I certainly don't think that.
