Birgit Nilsson Torrential Tosca (Stockholm, 1966) 

My mother told me that when she heard Birgit sing Tosca, it was not like singing but something divine. She was so overwhelmed that she couldn't think straight, and wandered in a bit of a fugue state for about an hour, until she came down to earth again to get in her car and drive home.

I’m so sad that I will never be able to hear music like this live.

She looked so fantastic and trim in that outfit. Look how slim her waist was. She would have been electrifying in that role.

Birgit in her prime- a force of nature. Her studio recording with Corelli was made the same year as this, but you can sense the scale of the voice better in this live performance.
