Nilsson had it all. She WAS the dramatic soprano voice of the century. She could overcome any orchestra, overpower any tenor. And yet, she could also sing soft passages with perfect lyricism. She could transform from a thunderstorm to a breeze in a second as showcased here. When Sutherland was asked in Nilsson's presence what her favorite thing about Nilsson was, she simply answered "her fil di voce".
So many kind comments on Nilsson, let me appreciate Vickers too. He was a god of love duets. Check his and Gwyneth Jones "Pur ti miro" that concludes L'imcoronazione di Poppea... He teleports you to a timeless dimension of love, doesn't he... When I find him hand in hand with Nilsson full voice, and it wasn't his full squillo, I wonder, how underappreciated he is.
Love Birgit !!! A powerhouse of a soprano Indeed!!! And Vickers is simply wonderful!! Thank you dear Theo for making a difficult night , southing and comforting.
Glorious. Sad, however, that we will seemingly never hear in our time voices of this amplitude and technical prowess. Good thing we have video and audio evidence it was possible.
Another vocal feast to rejoice in! The security, not one ounce of a hint of a wobble. Just heard the Cardiff voice competition. Yes many talents, but the hints of insecurity and wobble are already in these young voices…..
@@jmiller05 Τhere is a certain singer who destroyer her voice by singing Mini only 2 times... her Voice went crooky on her because it was very highly tune! :D
This is terribly sad. Voices are a finite resource, yet talented young singers with great promise are being sacrificed in favor of hurry-up-and-get-famous-but-stay-Hollywood-skinny pressures. I believe these are factors in the wobbling that you hear in young voices even before they have a chance to fully develop.
@@LohengrinOthat's an interesting comment. In a different way I see a similarity between him and nilsson. They both did hard manual labor in their youths, giving them strong backs and enormous stamina
