I grew up in Central Park and 5 Points west. Everybody's just folks trying to get by. There are no roving bands of psychopaths or whatever. You just gotta live where you find yourself. I've had people in these "bad" neighborhoods show me incredible acts of kindness and selflessness.

I grew up in Green acres, went to central park elementary, green acres middle and graduated from J-O. Things happen everywhere! I love where I'm from. Our neighborhoods aren't bad, we just have a few bad people in those areas and it makes everyone look like a monster. I am who I am because of where I grew up! I proudly say I'm from those areas! #IloveBirmingham

That's gangs that make it dangerous. Don't get in their way. Ensley used to be a great place to go listen to some awesome blues, play pool. And get a few beers. Now you cannot travel thru it. Its a shame. We used to park on Pike road and walk up to Lomb. We would gather about 20 people on the walk, and we would sing , dance, and have a great time. We didn't know each other! We would have new friends by the end of the night. ❤❤❤❤❤ I'm glad I grew up in a time when Birmingham was great!

I’ve worked around Birmingham since I got out of high school. I worked night shift at a truck shop on Powell Ave. This was late 90’s. People would walk in the shop and steal things when nobody was looking occasionally but I never got robbed,assaulted or anything. I even went into some pool halls where some ladies was frying chicken wings and I was the only white boy around. Went with a buddy of mine named James Shackleford. He was a real OG and big and tall. I always felt safe and I knew he wouldn’t take me anywhere he thought we might get into trouble but sometimes he did ask me if I had my gun with me. I’d say yeah and he’d say we wer good then lol. You could tell he commanded respect on the streets but he also treats people right. I loved that man. I’ve work in Bessemer,run a pawn shop in Midfield and met some good customers there. You did hear gunshots almost every night after dark but you get used to it. I always carried a gun and watched my back. The major,powers good people though. They weren’t trying to mess with anybody. A few customers offered me about where not to stop for gas after the sun went down and I appreciated that. Birmingham can be dangerous but it’s not a bad place. Lots of good people. My family lived in Pratt City in the old days.

Yes that is a fact it is no doubt dangerous two years ago it was 2 on same list year before that number 1. If you are not active in trying to figure out problems check out see what is going on in city hall neighborhood watch groups report crimes if you see them happen they have things in communities to help you need to maybe try that. Driving these main roads is not alarming. I think it is unfair to call these areas dangerous. Yes, shootings happen in the neighborhoods from time to time. It is not normally dangerous to drive through, though. I love Birmingham. My parents lived off of 3rd Ave, closer to Midfield, when I was born. It's actually part of state hwy 11. I now live off of 11 further north. Hwy 11, 1st Ave N, 3rd Ave, Bessemer Super Highway are all the same strip of road. My employer's central location is on 3rd, as well as my husband's. I am apparently tied to it. I often drive it from west to east through the city to appreciate the ties. I have broken down on Lomb Ave. I frequently drive through Ensley. Every now and then we visit Wylam. We drive through West End to see where my parents grew up. There is a church where we have attended mass in the area. My mom worked at Princeton. My grandparents are buried at Elmwood. My grandmother grew up in an Italian community in the area. Birmingham is so thick with history. I love it. Families are living normal lives in these communities, and we can't forget that.

Birmingham was once a beautiful city with gorgeous homes. And there are still a few noteworthy places. However, the city just seems to have old dark damp feel to it. There seems to be a quick cash or liquor store on every corner. They keep calling it the comeback city but i see very little evidence of that happening. The people aren't racists like the news wants to portray. That ship sailed back in the Sixties. The residents get along exceptionally well and support one another, so that's where her real beauty lies.
@janicebowlen8929
@janicebowlen8929 3 года назад
So true about that ship sailing in the 60s. It has been dredged up for political reasons we all understand. Birmingham was wretchedly racist b4 we were forced to change, but change we did for the most part. There is a lot of love and care between the races in these old area.. coming from an older white woman in East Lake. But the gun issue still needs to be dealt with. I'm radically against gun control, but some how the illegal guns on our streets must be cleaned up. I listen to gunfire almost every night.

But I know the facts if what I see you presenting and that's what I was responding to. Your personality or personal views aren't on display in the videos do there would b no need for any response of mine to try and characterize you. Is there zero commentary or context in this video? I grew up in Bham, recognize some of these places--- there needs to be more than a dash cam video of someone driving around in silence. 🙁

I live in West End. I feel very disrespected that you label my area as a dangerous area to be in after dark. It's a matter of opinion and perception. What I saw from wasting and hour of my life watching your video was people going and coming like any other area of town. I saw cars parked at residents where people were inside minding their own business. The exact same amount of crime reported in the areas you visited are the same amounts of crime in Vestavia, Homewood, and Mountainbrook if not more. The only difference is those crimes aren't reported on tell-lie-vision. Usually when there's crime in my community it's because one person has a vendetta again another person. However, in other areas of the city if one person has a unique problem with another he goes in and kills everyone in the school, work place etc. in broad day light. You really made yourself look stupid reporting on something you don't facts to back up. You represent a large number of people that think their shit don't stink but guess what?
