I went to my first game against Cardiff in I think it was 1967 with a Villa fan brother. This was my second game took by my other villa fan brother when I was 12. Became season ticket holder the following year as I was allowed to go on my own to the games then. How great it was then to have a full house and standing. Happy days and memories 👍🏻😀seem to remember a night game against Arsenal in the mid/late 70’s when Francis and Malcolm Mc Donald bothe scored hatricks in a 3-3 draw.
I remember watching games like this as a kid on an old Bush black and white TV and loved it thinking back. Into the 80’s when l went to footy regular, grounds hadn’t changed much but the atmosphere was just as great.Maybe took things to much for granted and would love to relive those times , everything was so much easier back then
Not a blues fan , nor was I born at the time , but I could watch Francis play all day , never mind the overpaid proto type athletes that are today's footballers.
Trevor Francis began at Birmingham FC Div 2 aged 16 & already getting noticed. I rmbr seeing him playing Hull. Extraordinary he stayed at Birmingham FC until Clough bought him for £1mill at Forest in '79. Money wasn't what football was about until the 21st century.
When TF came to Birmingham from Devon he would watch us in the local park. I asked him to join us. No chance, he said. You lot clobber me and it's a one way ticket home. Not that we would have caught him, he was so quick.
I remember this game well, but I think Derby still won the title that year while we of course at the Maine Rd nightmare to end our season, still tears on my pillow! KRO
Great to see a good close up after Bruce Rioch scored for Derby. He was my all-time Aston Villa hero. Quality midfielder with a powerful, bombshell left-foot. Heartbroken when he left us four months earlier but he became an even better player performing in the top flight - I think Derby were Champions that season under boss Dave Mackay.
Watched this because of TFs recent passing. Great player. Can't say as much for the defender on that first goal. And Todd definitely got his foot to the ball on that second penalty. But, my oh my, the ref looked like he should have been collecting his pension. At least one improvement for the modern game. No more old codgers refereeing at the top level.
Second penalty award is a farce. Slow it down to 0.25 playback speed in your settings and you'll see the ball superbly won by the defender and no contact made with Trevor Francis.
Shocker of a dive by Francis for the second penalty. If he was available today in the Second City,...he would definitely be with a top club like Aston Villa to have any chance of developing his skills and winning trophies.
Just watched this on TV and I kid you not 2 minutes in and the camera spans onto the crowd and there is a young supporter who is a dead ringer for one of the Campbell brothers out of Birmingham regarding group ub40
“That’s handball, that’s handball by Roger Davis. What a foolish young man. There was no need for that”- don’t get frank commentary like that anymore 🤣
Roger Davis showed he could dribble about with deft touches but that hand ball. Why Roger? It was coming down anyway. He was showing his guilt & getting caught out.
Disgusting dive by Trevor Francis for the second penalty. Who says diving is a modern thing brought over by foreign players? He was Jurgen Klinsmann before Jurgen Klinsmann as in theatrically throwing his head back at the slightest touch.
The years just fly past now especially my 68yrs. Once the 21st century came football changed. It looks like a video game. No longer watch it except for the RU-vid treasure. 20yr olds watch it like I watch football in the 1930s say. It's the long hair they laff at! Comb overs like Ralph Coates that billow out with a strong wind!
That second penalty was a joke...was the ref a Forest fan?Peter Daniel didn't deserve that...he was a replacement for Roy Macfarland for most of the season & won a League Winners Medal at the end of it
