Literally the most underrated cartoon ever. Silver Surfer is my absolute favorite. And you cannot deny Galactus looks so mighty and his voice is so bloody cool!
Zokizzy Foshizzy I really like the fact that Galactus, even though he considers himself superior to everyone,he is still honorable enough to keep hes promises .Like most vilans he could have distroyed the Silver Surfer planet sints he din't remember who he was,but choes to honor hes promise.
+Vlad the Impaler I agree, except that I don't consider Galactus to be a villain. He is far and above our mortal concepts of good and evil. But like all the rest of us, the guy's gotta eat. ;)
It's not a 'metafor' (metaphor). Galactus truly is a natural cosmic force, and it's been said he is the source of the Power Cosmic. He is a face of the Living Tribunal, and a vital part of the universe. They've played with the story plenty of times but his death is supposed to have dire consequences for the universe (in some stories his being alive keeps Abraxas from running wild and destroying everything).
"And neither the frigid cold of the deepest space nor the blazing heat of the brightest star shall harm your shielded body. Most importantly i shall give you the means to travel faster than the fastest starship so you may soar to the ends of the universe and beyond. Norrin Radd exists no more! You are newborn my herald, even your mind is a new page on which i shall write. ARISE!" LITERAL CHILLS!!!
I actually really love the fact Galactus holds his promise and even goes so far to covertly tell Silver Surfer he’s an honorable man meaning he respects him a lot. This has to be made into a Movie ASAP! Galactus isn’t evil he’s just a survivor and I guess at this point he’s growing too old. It’s pretty awesome that SS has the power of cosmic that means he’s stronger than anyone on Earth, pretty underrated character.
Ikr. It was a very clever way of showing that he's not a villain. In the comics, he also honored his vow to not consume Earth until Reed Richards released him from the vow in exchange for defeating Sphinx. Despite the fact that he could've easily just said "fuck it" and devoured Earth anyway at any time.
@@pifre3051 I'm really worried that they'll make him a Celestial. Which would make him much less unique than him being the physical embodiment of the cosmos itself. They must AT LEAST portray him as neutral rather than a villain.
I love galactus. but everybody forgets that galactus isnt a villain. he must eat planets to survive just like we must eat food to live. and a perfect example of how good he is he could have lied to silver surfer and ate the planet. but instead spared it, just as he promised.
@@bartoszrebelski8571 Indeed. He is the middle ground between Eternity (all there is) and Death (all there was). Without destruction, there's no creation. When Galactus consumes a planet, he paves the way for a new planet. Most importantly, Galactus is destined to be the cause of the next big bang when the universe ends, which creates the next universe.
@@vetarlittorf1807 no. I am talking about Abraxas. The one where Galactus dies and Franklin Richards has to bring him back because Abraxas threatens to wipe out the multiverse.
Mephisto got to her in the comics too. Surfer managed to save her, but in order to do it he had to set her soul free into the cosmos to be out of Mephisto's reach.
@@SgtSega Is that what happened? I thought Mephisto was simply trying to tempt Surfy by reuniting him with Shalla-Bal but returned her to Zenn-La when he failed to tempt him.
1:54 "Go my Silver Surfer. The spaceways beckon! And the great hunger is upon me once more." "To me! My Board." Jesus, how did this not get funding! Soul tinglingly good. Never fails to send chills down my spine. Silver Surfer always was one of my fave superheroes, despite being tragically underrated
That is why it didn't get funded. It is too good. I mean in all seriousness It was too highbrow for children, except I remember adoring this show and being blown away by the concept of inconcivible alien life due ttot he vast complexities of the universe.
@@NexusARCIt did get all the funding it could get. But Marvel was at the verge of bankruptcy at the time. But the real reason the show was cancelled was because of a legal dispute between Marvel and Saban Entertainment.
I remember watching this episode years ago, and it striking me that Galactus... being the ultimate force in the universe and devourer of worlds... has enough honor to keep his bargain with Norin Radd. He could have just been a jerk and decided to destroy the planet, but he didn't out of a pact he made. Classy guy.
"To perform your task as my herald, Norrin Radd, you must become far more than merely a man. I bestow upon you a portion of my own Power Cosmic. You shall absorb boundless strength from the cosmos itself. Needing no food to eat. Nor water to drink. Nor air to breathe. You shall be able to transmute the elements. And to heal others as well as yourself. Cosmic bolts of awesome power shall be yours to hurl. And neither the frigid cold of the deepest space or the blazing heat of the brightest star shall harm your shielded body. Most importantly, I shall give you the means to travel faster than the fastest starship. So you may soar to the ends of the universe and beyond. NORRIN RADD EXISTS NO MORE! YOU ARE NEWBORN MY HERALD! EVEN YOUR MIND IS A NEW PAGE ON WHICH I SHALL WRITE! ARIIIIIIISE!" - Galactus
MCU/MTU will ruin Galactus the moment they set their sights on him. I just know it. They have neither the skill nor the guts to create epicness like showcased in this scene. This scene alone has more quality than Loki/Wandavision/F-WS/BW combined.
Norrin Radd is one of the most noblest and bravest men in the Marvel Universe. To give up his former life leaving it behind to spare his world and his love.
Would love to see a quality airing of this in a high-def movie written with respect and love for the characters with NONE of the 'stuff in comedy just because' nonsense.
"One Above all is the prime celestial" There are TWO "One Above All" characters in Marvel Comics. One is the prime Celestial, and the other is essentially God, and even the Living Tribunal answers to him (the Tribunal said so). He has only briefly (maybe) made appearances. He was also who possibly manipulated Thanos into gaining and using the Heart of the Universe (according to Thanos himself). Galactus, the One Above All (of the Celestials), etc., are specks to THE One Above All.
Lately, people seem to disregard his status as a freakin' PLANET EATER" and depower him allowing him to be defeated by his own Herald, the Silver Surfer. I am looking at you "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer." The most egregious case was when Mr. Fantastic defeated him.
Context: Norrin Radd’s original plan was to scout out planets for Galactus that would provide the energy he needed but devoid of sentient life and it almost worked but the Great Galactus was two steps ahead of him, Galactus knew deep down Norrin would never alert him to a planet that was teaming with life so during part of his conversion to the Silver Surfer Galactus wiped Norrin’s mind thus he wouldn’t even remember the plan he was going to set in motion, Norrin (now the Silver Surfer) couldn’t even remember his own home planet “what of this planet master?” Even though Galactus could’ve destroyed Zenn-La right there Galactus was a being of his word and still spared it, not out of a sense of guilt or compassion (Galactus has neither) but he simply made the calculus that what he got in return (a being that would travel the cosmos for him thus reducing the amount of energy he would have to expend doing it) was well worth the price of one planet. This was a really well done scene and hopefully one day if done correctly we can see a Silver Surfer movie on the big screen.
In the comics, Galactus made Norrin his herald specifically to search for uninhabited planets because normally he wouldn't have the time to search for them on his own before he gets hungry. Unfortunately, life supporting planets with no intelligent life are very rare, so Surfer had no choice but to summon his master to inhabited worlds most of the time.
Unlike Disney would definitely censored the original comics because they can do whatever they wanted toward family and children instead teens and adult
Almost. But in the comics, Galactus didn't take away the Surfer's memories. And the Surfer tried his best to only select planets with no intelligent life.
He is my favorite marvel character, it used to be Thor, but surfer just hits different, a very pure character, the best character that even put peter Parker to shame in terms of being kind hearted
Maybe that's who needs to do a Silver Surfer Movie, the Japanese. They don't suffer from the issues we still do here in the States. They could do a Silver Surfer anime right.
I've never liked the silver surfer, but I have to admit, this is probably the best superhero origin story, this is what an origin story should be like. Not being hit by an atomic blast like the hulk, or just an alien baby like superman. No, been given cosmic powers by essentially a god in exchange for eternal service. That shit makes me understand why he's so powerful. Also, galactus is just the greatest supervillain, they should never have gone beyond him in strength. A not evil, but unstoppable force of nature that always looms in the background. One that only lets you live because he chooses to.
Such an amazing cartoon just bad timing. Spiderman and X Men back then were just slightly better. I would have relished 2 more seasons of this. Galactus is my favorite character
Actually, Welles DID play a Galactus-type character in the 1980s classic animated Transformers movie. He played a monstrous planet named Unicron that devoured other planets and transformed the Decepticon Megatron into his servant Galvatron much like Galactus transformed Norrin Radd into the Silver Surfer.
To perform your task as my herald, Norrin Radd, you must become far more than merely a man. I bestow upon you a portion of my own Power Cosmic. You shall absorb boundless strength from the cosmos itself. Needing no food to eat. No water to drink. No air to breathe. You shall be able to transmute the elements. And to heal others as well as yourself. Cosmic bolts of awesome power shall be yours to hurl. And neither the frigid cold of the deepest space nor the blazing heat of the brightest star shall harm your shielded body. Most importantly, I shall give you the means to travel faster than the fastest starship. So you may soar to the ends of the universe and beyond. Norrin Radd exists no more. You are newborn my herald. Even your mind is a new page on which I shall write. ARISE. Then go, my Silver Surfer the space waves beckon and the great hunger is upon me once more.
If only the Surfer's creator, Jack Kirby, had been allowed to craft his original origin for the character; that is, the Surfer was composed of pure cosmic energy... as opposed to Stan Lee's imposed soap-opera back-story :-(
This show was so good! I really hate that it was the least recognised tv show from all the fox marvel shows. And somehow the cheap cgi on galactus adds to his intimidating figure weirdly?
@stardingo747 Jack Kirby , when interviewed on this matters said that Galactus, the Surfer , and the New Gods were derived from the bible, it makes sense, Galactus reminds of the old vengful gosd of the old Testament, making devasttion, floods , and natural disasters, and yet showing little compasion. While the Surfer who contacts Humanity and becomes its savior, looses the abilty to soar into space, that reasembles the story of JesusChrist.
One of the most epic moments in cartoon history.. EVER! Galactus' voice and overal apearance.. just amazing. It pierces your soul and makes you shiver.
* People are so stupid. Galactus destroys planets not just to kill, but for the need to survive, and sustain his energy. How else can you feed God-like powers from the farthest reaches of the Universe.
Galactus may not be a villain, but the fact he wiped Norrin Radd’s memories and morality so that there would be no reluctance to choose populated worlds for him was underhanded and cruel. That was never part of the deal.
The deal was that Norrin would serve Galactus in exchange for sparing Zenn-La. Norrin never made any conditions. Also, Galactus never sent him to look for populated worlds, just life-supporting worlds. The fact that most of those worlds are populated is just an unfortunate coincidence.
Me too. Galactus is probably Jack Kirby's greatest creation. Fans today don't even know how immensely popular the original Galactus Trilogy was in the 60's. It was the first time in history when Marvel sold more copies than DC. Not to mention Galactus is a very interesting antagonist. Because even if by some miracle the heroes manage to beat him, they can't kill him because that would throw the universe out of balance. But letting him live will mean the end of Earth and the human race.
