In some cases rolled oats or wheat germ can be used as a substitute. Hope that helps. :)

It is just there for a more realistic look. You can certainly omit it if you do not like coconut and still like the idea of the cake. Give it a whirl. :)

They come in little jars and they are thick and don't alter the consistency of the icing. You can buy them anywhere you can buy cake decorating supplies like Miceals and craft or hobby stores.

can any one think of an alternative to the yellow coconut on the chicks? Just using yellow icing would work but I did like the flair the coconut gave them (just can't get kids to touch anything with coconut in it)
