A wonderful birthday outing! My sister and I visited St. Marks in December, 2019. We were lucky enough to see the male Vermilion Flycatcher! St. Marks has long been one of my favorite places, so I especially enjoyed this video.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY THOMAS! 🥳🥳 5 more weeks till we go to Florida and when I wanted to start learning about the Florida birds I found your videos and they helped me out. I think I’m going to the celery fields and to the beach pretty often. We live pretty far away from any other major birding hot spots but I’m excited to see what I can find. I have now learnt all the shorebirds, wading birds, and all the other birds that aren’t here in Ohio. I can’t wait to see how many new birds I can add to my life list. I’m so glad I got into birding at a young age and that I’m very serious about it now and know a lot of birds. Good luck in your future birding adventures 👍🙂

@@FollowThomas No problem 🙂. Yes there will be lots of new birds. Pretty much all the wading birds will be lifers as well as some of the shorebirds. I hope to see some specialties at the celery fields like grey headed swamp hen or yellow headed blackbird. There will be lots of birds to find I’m sure, I can’t wait! 😁

Happy birthday! You just made my day by finishing my ride! I’m sitting in my air bnb in Tallahassee right now. I came down for a photo shoot I just found out about on Tuesday. I had today free so I rode the St. Marks Trail / my goal was to ride those gravel roads you were on and lighthouse road. I got to the park booth but the wind and cold had take it out of me. I turned around. I still had a long beautiful day(64 miles) but I didn’t get to see the Gulf or the light house - I can’t even believe that I just got to see it thanks to you! Cheers Thomas! (I was thinking about you when I was out riding).
That worked out great then. You're actually finished my ride too because my plan was to stay overnight and ride the Tallahassee - St.Marks Trail next day but instead drove back to Jacksonville the same day. So, we both finished each other's rides 👍🙂
Glad you got to spend your birthday at the refuge Thomas. Pinky and a Vermilion Flycatcher are great birds to see on your birthday. I really like birding the winter months when all the ducks are around. Seems like there are more ducks in our area this late fall/early winter so I hope you get to visit again. Cheers, Andy

Absolutely. Long smooth gravel roads and on a way back you can ride the main road. I recommend to stay in Newport Campground which is right on the other side of Lighthouse road starting point. Lighthouse road itself is 11 miles long if I remember it correctly. Perfect biking.

Thanks for the bird identification, sloooowwwlly learning about birds :) Just visited a marsh area and was trying to identify the bird life there, very similar to what you have in your area, minus the "Pinky" flamingo :)
