@@mahankalra6275 yup, Biriyan means to fry in Persian. Initially Biriyani used to be prepared after frying the raw rice, nowadays nobody uses that method.
Its also called biryan and sometimes biryani also in eastern up areas may be some parts of Bihar as Satyam belongs to that area may be that’s why he referred to. But name biryani doesn’t come from there I guess

@Satyam - Slight correction: The fried onion is called BIRISTA , not BIRIYAN. And Biryani name came from word BERENJ (BIRINJ) which is iranian name of Rice. So biryani name biryan se nahi aya Birinj/berenj se aya h.
