Attacca is, without doubt, one of the finest string quartets today. Like books of superior content, so their high quality is not compromised by quantity, fashion, the "roisterous carousels of fad and profitability." Indeed, they are classics...timeless and ineffable!!!
The 3rd movement of this"Emperor" op.76no.3 is a treasure ;instantly made me wantto hear it again. But the finale was the true surprise here and really interesting :brusque for Hadyn ! Remarkable playing everywhere ! The Sunrise Quartet pleases more on first hearing many interesting things. The minuet shocked me the space and meter very unstable ;full of surprises .Must find out year published .I've waited so longto really look and discover Hadyn. Ax and Schiff teaching the piano Sonatas gave me a key to the kind of thinking in this early classical era . I wonder if Hadyn wrote any quintets like Mozart's glorious ,glorious unforgettable batch !
