@@JustForFunFGH again as always total miss information and lying! I have done that and the check is £8.99 for Total Car Check as Auto Express top choice!! The £3.99 check you are spouting is a Silver and contains no finance check, no valuation! So once again total twaddle!
I have one of these 2016 now on 22,375 miles never let me down...in England, always waits until I am in Europe on holiday, given problems twice, one serious, one not so much, but tows my caravan beautifully. My third discovery. Now receiving treatment from the doctors for my addiction.
I worked for BCA for a while and never got in one that didn’t stink of dogs & sheep Looks like a grade 2 that one with original paint. Nightmare to maintain tho. Those electric handbrakes when they go
What a cracking example. Will be an amazing buy for someone at that price. Absolutely loved our Discovery auto, and despite the doom mongers it never once let us down.
Half the people who moan about Landrovers don't have them maintained correctly. No, they're not outstanding, but they're a darn sight better than most make out.
Yeah right, not having them maintained correctly makes the windows go down of their own accord when the car's unattended does it? Or did ours do it for a laugh?
Superb, we bought a Discovery 4 Graphite new in 2016 in Sanatori Black (Probably not the best colour if you don't like washing a car) as one of the last unregistered new LR stock cars. Payed £47K for it. After 30k miles and 6 years of pillowy ride, wafting and endless torque I can honestly say I have no idea what or if we should replace it with (I would keep it) and just keep paying the LR full extended warranty (£130 approx a month). It's tempting because the residuals seem to be very good but the ridiculous prices of LR products at the moment puts me off. I never really had any interest in LR or The Discovery until we bought a caravan. So I bought it because it was 'Towcar of the decade'...It is. It is also a great car to live with and so versatile with it's totally flat floor with all the rear seats folded it can be a van. The split tailgate, which is great. The air suspension, handy. Nice to know ours will hopefully drive the same at 75k miles. If anybody finds a good low mileage 2015/16, go for it. Once they put on Stop/start it lowered the road tax bracket also (£360 for 12 months last year). They have been around so long because the design worked and modifications have been done over time, hopefully. People let you out at junctions too, (would they in a Range Rover?). My advice...keep it.👍🙂. Enough waffle...Great video👍
All cars have problems if you don’t luck after them James. My current runaround is a 2014 insignia 2.0 cdti . All you here is the engines are rubbish and go pop . I’ve had it 18 months , done oil and filter twice, and it never misses a beat . Look after a car and it will look after you !
@@roystonvehicles9129 yes but lack of oil and filter changes is the reason the oil seal goes , it breaks Down in old engine oil , hence I do regular oil changes . Mines on 150,000 miles and runs perfect.
@@chrishart8548 I travel approx 15 miles each way to work and back mainly on national speed limit roads so that's the dpf sorted and injectors go just like on any other car .if and when they do I'll replace them ,simples 😁
What a lovely car. A friend of mine has one in the same colour, and it's without a doubt the nicest and most comfortable car I've ever travelled in. Someone is going to absolutely love this. They are expensive to maintain, there's no getting away from that. But if looked after properly, a Discovery is no less reliable than anything else. If you're looking to buy one, keep an emergency fund on one side for repairs, and you'll be fine. Just don't expect to run one on a small budget. Because you can't.
All these comments about reliability ect is nuts all cars have issues Most general folk not within the trade in some way experienc the horror stories as the don't service gearboxes or keep to the unrealistically long oil change schedules ect I not long sold my 2.7 tdv6 xf with 187000 miles on it and had no real issues with it other then general ware and tare Back in 2019 I had a brand new seat tarraco from new. The gearbox main shaft bearing started getting noisy at 4800 miles If you have a prestigious car maintenance and repair aint gonna be the same as a poverty spec i10 ect
Be VERY careful not the brilliant engines. Crankshaft & oil pump, can be a cracking motor. But, also a bloody nightmare. Don’t use the specified oil, go for a higher grade in viscosity.
Great video and it reminds me how much I miss the 2010 D4 I owned for nearly 8 years. Whilst it wasn’t faultless, it was nowhere near as unreliable as people would have you believe. In fact, I replaced it with a Volvo XC70 and in 18 months I’ve owned that I’ve spent well over half what the Discovery cost me over 8 years.
James, this is a really late Discovery 4, (3 litre) as the first Discovery 5's were in 2017 I think. By that time issues with cranks etc. had been fully sorted and in honestly they are a better better than the first Disco 5's!
I don't think I could afford the running costs if I was given it for free. And I couldn't relax knowing if it goes rong I would need a lottery win to fix it.
If it looks nice, and drives well, sell it quick. Sooner or later these things go belly up big style. I breathed a sigh of relief when you said it wasn't actually yours James.......
Yes, I know first hand of two very expensive horror stories, both had been well maintained. I'm afraid even though I love the spec of the disco 4s, particularly the commercial i wouldn't risk buying one.
With you on that one James. I had a 3 & a 4 & drove the 4 for 3 years & still miss it like mad. Absolutely lovely thing to live with. I think the reliability issue is because, as you said, they are regularly the tow vehicle of choice & get a massive kicking towing 2 tons on a regular basis. A gently used one should be fine & mine never let me down. Only problem in 3 years was the electric handbrake jamming once. Kind of wish I'd kept mine.
Iv been waiting for this upload ❤love it, when are you going to treat yourself for a few months and then list it up for sale after a good few months of experience in different cars?
That's a very nice example - haven't see one in that colour before. They do have an awful reputation for reliability but having never owned one I couldn't comment. Matt, High Peak Autos loves most LR products particularly Range Rovers bur he does reckon you should have a couble of grand contingency fund for when things break - some of the bills he has paid on his LR's have been eyewatering!
One of my friends just got a 2019 one , it lasted two days , new gearbox and engine required and it only had 50 k on it luckily it went straight back for a refund. They are great when working but I wouldn’t have one
@@ChopsGarage that’s true but everyone I know who has one has had bad problems with them not a problem if your in the trade but not for a normal person
Yes , I know two very similar stories, both vehicles had full service history and neither high mileage. They are amazing vehicles when they work but a severe headache when they fail. Frankly plenty of other vehicles to choose without the issues.
@@paulf2529 they are lovely when they work , probably nothing better to drive , I just couldn’t cope with the doubt that it could go wrong at any moment
Chops I had a 2014 discover hse luxury black on black with 22 inch alloys the luxury have nice trim I sold it in January, I have just picked up a jaguar f type in white with a black pan roof it's a old one 2014 but still shifts
Great vehicle mate, I've got a 61 plate parked up same colour, limp mode, both rear brakes locked and coming up steering column fault, won't actually move, gone all mouldy inside as well.
Some friends have a 18 plate one, main dealer, chain went at 40k and now transfer box is leaking, they want 1500 quid to fit a new seal (!) having said that they've also got a 19 plate tranny and the engines just blown.
@@ChopsGarage yes mate that 2.0 ingenium engine, honestly avoid any jlr product with that in, the earlier ones of yours broke cranks but yours been a late one should be OK. Prices are still megga high at auction by the way.
@@chrishart8548 just sold a 16 plate jag with that engine, you could hear the chain, car was worth 9k,took 5k to get rid, it's a 2k plus job to get done.
A beauty for sure but suited to someone with kids and a dog or two. Way too big for me and I know getting the big old barge parked up in cities won't be fun!
That 3ltr is like the slot machines at blackpool its just pure luck ul get a winner and the engine wont blow up i hope ford has fixed it for the new ranger
James I like it much more than the maserati or porsche -How would you say this compares with the Kia sportage, you had one recently & were impressed if I remember right as it was a fraction of the LR's price 2wd I think but good enough
Like the Disco (and being a later one most of the bugs should have been ironed out) but can't help thinking you're playing Russian roulette and eventually will end up with one that bites you on the warranty bum...
The only thing that lets it down - it really needs colour coded outer door handles. They make such a difference and aren't exactly expensive to get in the correct colour. A wonderful motor.
Have a look at LR Time on RU-vid.bit of an eye-opener on land rover discovery reliability and the poor design of the 2.7 V6. Might change your views on the discovery.
Hi today on chops we've got the ghbli and disco back, warranty wise won't pay and I've no idea how to fix them, ha, ha mate. Unfortunately it's very likely.
Is tough for them not to when policy says "this policy covers all electrical and mechanical components on your vehicle" . Your risk is if you sell it on one without full service history
In my opinion the Best car JLR have ever built - the 5 just doesn’t offer the sheer space and chunky looks - even the new Defender seems to lack the usable interior space of the 4.
Defender has always had terrible usable space. The new one does look seriously cool though, I've heard the jimny has more boot space than the 3 door version.
The old joke says Land Rover owners don't normally wave at each other out on the road, because they already met in the service area previously. There's no denying this one looks the business, but the horror stories are out there non the less.......
Bit like the early Skoda Estelle.Didnt have heated rear screens because you were always pushing them.correction.they did have heated rear screens to keep your hands warm when pushing it in the winter.
@@petershepherd6889 But at least Skoda got their act together big style, and now make cars as good as anyone else's. And they're almost always in the top 5 of any customer satisfaction survey........ I speak from experience, having owned 4 in the last 20 years.
Hope your not going to catch a cold mate warranty wise (!) doing all this heavy metal, your getting into a totally different league now,but fortune favours the brave!
These heavy metal cars are ok mate, if you get say 4 k across them, but God warranties on a masser and late land rovers, if WW don't back you up, well...., tbh for the money you could have got 20 run of the mill stuff with say a grand to 1500 across them, as you say your getting known as the guy who will buy anything.
I don't think I'd trust BMW that much. They don't do too well in customer service/reliability surveys either.... If it's a reliable posh 4x4 you want, go Lexus.
@@ChopsGarage well I had a 320d and it did 150K got to 11 years old water pump failed and when that was being sorted I was told the turbo impeller had slack in it and could possibly fail any time. Car still ran as sweet as a nut, but had to go. Otherwise other than consumables and a few headlight bulbs failing it had no squeaks or rattles and drove really well. Serviced by local BMW specialists which saved a few bob
A low down sports car wouldn't be any good for me. You'd have to start feeding me and bringing me cups of tea, because I wouldn't be able to get out of it ( arthritic knees ).
Most people do drive like idiots and don't keep on top of maintenance. If they did one car would often last a lifetime. They don't rust if you clean them properly. And most of my cars I've had to get rid of the engine still ran fine. Oil and filters should keep an engine going 400k+
Thoroughly enjoy the channel. Doubtless the Discovery is fantastic to drive. The brand is consistently poor when it comes to reliability/cost to repair and customer satisfaction surveys. But, folk keep buying them so JLR appears to be content with this rather than look to improve. Not a great look. The Japanese brands are renowned for reliability because they invest time and a sense of pride in getting things right. Perhaps it is a cultural thing. Who knows? The elephant in the room is that this video amounts to a sales pitch so James is unlikely to criticize a car he is trying to sell!
@@blairoutproject Lol what are you trying to say been married 25 years, so that s..t doesn’t happen anymore and I have to share the bed with the dog as well 🤪🤣
Sorry know people like em but not for me. Once you've had the misfortune to own & run one of these utter lemons and had to endure the total lack of service & respect from LR you'd never go back.
The Range Rover makes the disco feel like the lesser car to drive. Can’t believe a dealer has never drove one. Don’t buy and sell JLR products it’ll end in tears
@@ChopsGarage because there’s that many of them going threw the trade week by week. I’ve probably been in 600 - 1,000 honestly. But then again who drives or shunts around 60 cars approx a day, 5 days a week
@@ChopsGarage I’m aware pal. I follow your channel. I’m interested on following the sale of this one, and the after sale if any warranty claims depending how it goes. It maybe worth at the price he wants for it just to put it through the trade and make a drink on it without hassle
