I love these videos man, I am looking to get better with my improvisation and using your videos is helping a lot! Do you have any tips or resources you used to become more familiar with each scale? Or did you grind out scales and arpeggios for hours at a time? Thanks!
Just like learning more vocabulary helps you express yourself when speaking, learning chords/scales/theory can help you express yourself more fully when playing music. It's not the end-all, but part of spending time with music. Consider it part of the color palette you can draw from when making music. As far as tips and resources go: remember that it's a life-long undertaking to learn music. I've found the best help in studying and listening to other artists I admire. Are you familiar with Brad Mehldau? Do you have any artists you enjoy for which you might be able to find some transcriptions or sheet music of their music? I like to go listen to live musicians and go home and try to figure out what they are doing.
@@heavypiano I really like your analogy of a color palette. I have heard of Brad Mehldau from a few people, I haven't listened to much of his stuff at all. I have been inspired a ton by Randy Newman, Elton John, but haven't listened to a ton of Jazz pianists. I have been jamming a lot with Avril 14 by Aphex Twin, my hands are not nearly big enough to play it how he does but I make my way through it! Honestly man, I love the way you improvise, and maybe this is a bit forward but I would literally mow your lawn for free for a month to just hang out and have you teach me a few things!
