I dont believe it was the intro that the Stones "apparently" wrote. It's supposed to sound like "this will be the last time" by the Stones if sped up. It's all a load of bollocks that the Stone's manager claimed, and poor Richard and the Verve lost the battle, but have now won the war.

I really dislike the Stones (their manager or whoever) for doing that to him. The lyrics were written by him so was the music...except that tiny orchestral part (not even written by the Stones) which he sampled. This live version showed that "Bittersweet Symphony" actually doesn't need the sample at all. It is a fantastic song and will always be one of my all time favorites.

Summer of 97. Had my first car. Windows rolled down and sunroof wide open. Then this song came along....and my god. I couldn't stop listening😍 And now this version comes up on my youtube.....and it's 97 all over again😎 It's an absolute masterpiece of a song!

It sounds good - but sadly the last singer I heard with this much rasp in their voice was Harry Nilsson after he ruptured his vocal chords recording with John Lennon.......he recovered, but was never the same singer again. Hope that Richard Ashcroft is looking after his vocal chords!!

Music like this, by itself, is the only immaterial drug that truly satisfies the heart's experience of and desire for love. It's the closest thing to magic that there is. It's like a trick but you don't care if it is. It still works somehow.

Seria como salir con esta canción de fondo a reencontrarnos con nuestras vidas pero con un sentido nuevo y nenovado de conciencia y amor al progimo y todo nuestro entorno, por que al fin eso es la vida una agridulce sinfónia. Saludos

This has been one of my favorite songs since I saw the original video on 120 Minutes on MTV in the USA back in late 1997. Funny how one song can change your life forever. I love this song much and would like to thank Richard Ashcroft for that. What an artist.

Ashcroft chose to give up 100% of the songwriting credits in order to release it on the album. They had the rights to use the sample itself with fair use. They then overused the sample and gave up all songwriting credits because he just wrote the lyrics. Great song though

@@octaviof.g.7316 I realize that, and that throatiness in Richard's voice is what makes me prefer this version over others. He sounds like someone who's really "been down", plus the stripped down arrangement emphasizes his voice, the words and the melody more than other recordings.
