Great video. I’ve seen it once hunting public land in Missouri 3 years ago. It was 2 hens feeding in a field by themselves and a long beard starting approaching them. When he got within 50 yards, she started strutting. The gobbler continued to follow them but never got any closer within that range. I assumed she did because she was pissed and didn’t want to be bothered? Kinda like my wife does when I want...ehhhh nevermind.
Man, that’s some good calling. I’m hitting rewind and practicing and been chasing turkeys for over 30 years. And a strutting hen!? No one I know has gotten that on film. Great job!
I had the same thing happen about 25 years ago, a hen walked by me almost at my feet. Clearly a hen, she walked to my decoy and purred at it aggressively then she came to Full Strutt ! She Spit and Drummed around my decoy at 15 yds. I seen No Beard, and she did this for over 5 minutes. Then she stood there Yelping non stop for another 5 minutes. I thought she would call me a Tom but no. She finally just walked away Yelping. I really couldn't believe what I had seen. Thanks for sharing.
That's awesome you got it on video, I witnessed that once before and when I tried to spoke her off she chased me! Then followed me as I called!?! On a separate occasion I got to see one gobble! Mind you not well but gobble! Both public land birds themselves
Glad you kept filming instead of just moving on. Something to watch out for, look for that beard. Even had the semi shine to the feathers, nor quite as iridescent as a tom.
I had the same thing happen to me on MS Public 2 weeks ago. She came in strutting & then sat down 15 yds from my decoys & just hung out for like 20 minutes.
I've seen pen raised turkey doing weird stuff like that, but you know how dumb tame turkeys are. That hen didn't appear to have been crossed with tame turkeys, but she didn't appear to be that smart either. You basically had to Make her leave. Glad you got it on video or nobody would have believed it.
I remember 3 years ago I noticed a strutter at the end of a long field. I grabbed the fan and reaped up to a friggin hen in full strut. It was special. Lol my back hurt for a week
seen em strut and gobble too. had one beat the crap out of my hen decoy last year. finally had to run her off. didnt know she had a gobbler with her. sucks when they show up over a rise and you cant see whats on the other side.
I've turkey hunted for 47 years. I never heard of a strutting hen. If you didn't have video I would say you were lying. I thought smoke phase birds were rare but this like spotting sasquatch rare.
