Björk said in an interview “I wear masks because it’s a way to hide and reveal. With masks I feel protected, but it also helps me kinda be more expressive in the ways I know I can be generous to people that I don't know and give certain things to my close ones”. So I think that maybe she's using a mask during the performances to reveal that which is really emotional underneath. Somehow, though, I don't like not being able to see Björk’s wonderful facial expressions and the nuance of her emotions.

(wich is my favourite Björk track) I know it isn't a popular one in her discography (as the whole Medula album, sadly) but I still have goosebumps 17 years later every time I hear it! :-P
