Her "old soul" was trying to hold her back, covering her eyes, weighing her down and trying to prevent her from moving forward. It was her "baggage" that she presented at the end.
i dont believe you understand anything, the dark character is sex or lust, and "can you spot a pattern" is what comes from wandering lust, maybe consequences...involving wandering lust (sex) happening, in this case happening over and over. till you realise.
I didn't listen to Bjork for years but decided to put this one on today...I almost felt scared of this overwhelming feeling of what this song started doing to me.......it's.............it's beautiful...
I have a problem where I don’t remember things that I love for long periods of time. Whenever I’m reminded of Björk it’s all I can listen to for a while ❤
my dad showed me this video ages ago when i was tiny, ive been trying to find it ever since my dad passed from cancer. im literally crying. brings back so many sweet memories
+Michel Degas I would call it _childish_ , and not in the sense of 'silly' as it is usually used, but in the sense that it makes you feel like you're 8 years old, nothing can go wrong, mum is making caramel popcorn and you're sitting in front of the TV at 11 on a sunny morning on a warm hardwood floor. :)
I'm sorry, but this is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. I feel like Bjork and Bowie are 2 sides of the same coin; the masculine and feminine energies of changing and evolution. and, in doing so, being so ahead of the collective curve of other artists that have yet to catch up to them. I'm so glad and thankful we have them and the art they create.
i will probably never forget the moment when she sang the song live on stage a was so surprised also because it was the time when she already released vulnicura album so i did not think she will sing something from the past
@Kerolas I love all the horn arrangements! Especially that trumpet line that's rhythmically "1... 3... 1, 2, 3 +, 4-trip-let- 1.....". It's so simple, but there's something very disjointed and awkwardly catchy about it. I guess it's kind of contrary to the rhythm of the electronic parts. Like it almost doesn't fit, in theory, but it's awesome. :)
I listened to this song like dozens of times but now I tried to understand what she's trying to tell. I think it's really about the madness of living in the cities. It's about giving up the connection to our neighbour: our nature, unopposedly. Also I understand from it that it needs healing to recover from this sickness. I would agree to her.
its more like no ending travel with no end, you now its have no end but you still need and want to... like battle with The system(?) with the society or something like like this its senseless but you still do this
A magnificent song of such depth and thought deserves an equally powerful video, and it delivers. The whole look of this video is stupendous, especially the bison. I am also happy that the director included the eerie and haunting foghorn intro from the album, it's imperative to set the tone. Bravo!
Whenever I listen to Bjork , I like her music even more each time . I love wanderlust . I love how she artistically mixes genres She is way ahead of time.
i believe that the other person (the clay woman) represents her inner self that just wants to stay in one place, it is holding her back. whereas she just wants to be in a state of constant change. The giant face is itself the physicalisation of "wanderlust" and her constant desire to find something new and exciting
Exactly she talks about losing her origin si she wandering but lusting for her inner self she relentlessly craving her but exploring but not specifically looking for anything
I am leaving this harbor Giving urban a farewell Its habitants seem too keen on god I cannot stomach their rights and wrongs I have lost my origin And I don't want to find it again Whether sailing into nature's laws And be held by ocean's paws Wanderlust, relentlessly craving Wanderlust, peel off the layers Until we get to the core Did I imagine it would be like this Was it something like this I wished for Or will I want more Lust for comfort Suffocates the soul Relentless restlessness Liberates me (sets me free) I feel at home Whenever the unknown surrounds me I receive its embrace Aboard my floating house Wanderlust, relentlessly craving Wanderlust, peel off the layers…
This is insanely beautiful. I could go on and on about the interpretations I made from this video but the person holding her back the purple dead looking figure was her old self. It spawned from her back pack because what other tools do we have but our pasts to help us along the way? She couldn't have found what she was looking for without her old self but in the end had to show it who was boss and found the unknown she was searching for. Wanderlust.
This video is a very creative idea, the techniques and diffrent models made to be in it are greatly done, It may take some time for viewers to actually get the meaning of this video, but you also have to listen to what the words in the song say and how they connect with scenes in this video. I simply love it. This is well done, I suppose you could call it.. Majestic. Good job.
+Karel Zich I disagree, if you listen to the lyrics and really appreciate the music and instruments utilised it stand as a solid album on par with her previous work.
I saw the 3D video today at Aros (aarhus - Denmark) It is a fantastic video! The hole story is very good.. I love it! Really nice work by Encyclopedia Pictura!
Bjorks a genius. She went out with Tricky I think. Hes great too. True musicians with substance and expression in their music. Also liking the poetic art of David Bowie, Gary Numan, Massive Attack, Radiohead, UNKLE, PJ Harvey, Allflaws
I spent about a year trying to find this video ('cause i couldn't remember the name) i saw the begining once somewhere and thought it was beautiful. Now i found it...i don't regret a single minute i spend while looking for it...this is so beautiful it was all worth it. Thank you Björk (Pardon my english) :)
My view on this is that she's traveling or running away from her problems, and maybe the humanlike creature in her backpack is her guilt or homesickness, a hindrance from her moving forward. But then life decides to fuck shit up for her and she finally accepts her conflicting feeling and therefore finds where she really wanted to be.
Maybe the animals she rides are her body, and at the end they tire and die, and the only things left are her and the clay woman in her backpack, who I think is all her culture and family and history. But she - or another aspect of her - made the path/river that she follows. The laughing demon is the physical or metaphysical universe, it doesn't matter really. At the end the hands she falls into are only her own.
I was still barely getting over the wonder that had happened to me from listening to Post, when this absolute beauty came out.. and there were what, three other albums that I hadn’t even begun to process yet ❤❤❤
Wow. This is so powerful. "I have lost my origin and I don't want to find it again" she sings as a drab figure appears behind her that she has to constantly battle and carry like a burden. To me this is a version of herself who wants to live the safe life. Notice how when she reaches the waterfall it's this part of her that stops herself throwing herself off in the pursuit of the wonderful. I can really relate the feeling of wanting to break out of the life that was being imagined for me from a young age and how you carry those expectations around with you for many years, constantly battling to assert the authentic version of me over the default version. Again I say wow. And this from what some consider to be Bjork's weakest album. What a song.
This video is nothing short of sensational and genius. I hope she was awarded a Grammy for best video on this? Anyways, it reminds me of early childhood memories, when mom took me to the bank. While she was busy at the teller, I was instructed to use the 'kids cinema': a table sized massive thing with binoculars. Then you pressed a button and a black & white trick-film would start with similarly weird creatures like this one...it actually spooked me a bit but made me all the more intrigued.
It's the state of looking for "something," even though you know you're never going to find it. It's Björk's hunger for "something new". Enjoy listening to her song: "Did I imagine it would be like this? Or will I want more?"
This reminds me of Joga, I really love this video I mean the amount of work and vision its just awesome even if you dont like the music you must recognise the creativity
Weird enough I first heard this song and saw a portion of the 3D version at the New National Gallery in Berlin, it was prt of their Wanderlust exhibit on art based around travel. It’s definitely beautiful!
really, I think Björk was showing us how The Suni and Shiite can still get along besides their differences. Her yellow how and her two legs contrast starkly from the four legs and brown heads of the buffalo, and yet they manage to move together down the river, surviving its twists and turns. Really beautiful - you show us how we should act Björk!
This song makes me know there feel her next album will be soaring with fast ballads and magnificent lyrics. (Volta and Voltaic are awesome) My dad loves the horns and the Aphex Twin-like beats, while my mom loves her soaring voice and the lyrics. Bjork is the best!
@@jjt-firework not sure your right, do you know what a "waterfall" represents? falling or failing because of need or (lust) for sex, and the possible consequences that may come from sex for example an incurable std.
Encyclopedia Pictura is pretty good at the graphics! I like the art, very beautifal, and personally, I can see some sort of story in a way behind the song, or the story the song plays, I don't really think people get the ideas from drugs.... To Sonnetxi: Those are two of my many favorite people too!
Bjork tends to play with the idea that music doesn't have to be beautiful if it challenges you or make you think about what music means. She has a phenomenal voice, which can reach incredible beauty then dip into something almost primitive and raw.
@robinheil Great interpretation. About the thing from her backpack: I'm polish and we even say "bagaż doświadczeń" which google translated as "wealth of experience", but it actually means "luggage of experience" so it fits perfectly :)
bjork i fell in love with you when i was 13 and at 32 i still love you now. you speak to me in that insane , crazy , ingenious way that you do. keep it up!
estoy totalmente fascinado con esta cancion, el video es increiblemete hipnotizante, jamas he visto un trabajo asi, es una obra de arte, que mas se podia esperar de esta maravillosa artista..Viva Bjôrk !! Viva Wanderlust !!!
@matrancer its not weird its genious. bjork been doing music since childhood many musicians are still in awe about how bjork creates. if u dont believe me try listening to this song and just humming the melody alone, its beautiful
@SnijtraM Thank you so much for your response, I appreciate your answer. I have once more listened to her music after your response. Can you explain to me her sucess, what do massive amoutns of people find through her music. If you enjoy her music, tell me how so? Why so? Thank SnijtraM
one of my favorite songs, period. the vid is amazing - she'll never do the same thing twice, that's for sure. she's like a little genghis khan here, and i love it, it certainly fits her.
Hey! At last i get something about this video! lol, the hands at the end are supposed to be her own as she puts them over the water at 1:10 Damn this woman is so complex, i love her.
I adore her, at the beginning of the video I wasn't sure but by the end I was captured once again by her amazing talent and creativity, pure like an islandic goddess
BjorK yo te i love you Venezuela
