I can't do it. I cannot get thru this song without being overwhelmed with raw and pure emotion. Neither sad, nor happy, just emotion, and lots of it. Bjork is special, very special.
I had an abusive parent and didn't live the happiest of childhoods. Emotions were perceived as a weakness. And then she came and taught me that there's this raw power that emotion can bring, and it was immensely liberating. Coincidentally, it started with the Joga video. I am forever thankful.
I feel like she's not just clearly the best artist of my generation but the productive part of her career has lasted twice as long as Bowie or Prince or damned near anybody who's come before.
This is slightly slower than the studio recording. It sounds better because you can really hear the phrasing and she's holding those glorious notes longer. Simply divine
There aren't many musical moments out there as perfect as when she brings her lyrics, vocal performance and music together into the line 'emotional landscapes' in that lovely, gorgeous melody. It feels exactly as she describes it.
Well put- so many magical moments from this fantastical child and who are we to be invited in to her kingdom? We beloved are the ones that can HEAR HER … I Thank God ☮️
@@7CeLsO7 My point is the mouth thing, the SPECIFIC thing you mentioned, is not unique. Just because you aren't aware of other artists that do it, that doesn't mean you are right in your statement. I'll give you a free example here of your logic so you can see how silly it is. I declare that the frozen pizza in my freezer is unique, because I have not seen other frozen pizzas. We can all agree Bjork is great and unique, but you can do it without sounding stupid and ignorant about the specifics, and showing a blatant disrespect for other artists.
@MomoTheBellyDancer How did you reach that conclusion based on the previous comments? They were talking about how the original comment was worded like she WAS dead, which was funny since she's very much alive.
no seriously because when I started listening to her a few years ago, I liked a few tracks and its taken me a very long time to allow these songs to grow on me but now I love everything
Alexander Supertramp it’s not so much that it evokes imagery, it’s the profound idea that in Bjork’s world emotion is so vast and all-consuming that it’s hard to chalk it all up to passing feelings. It resonated with me and changed the way I thought about how emotion could exist in my internal world. When I enter a new environment, sometimes a novel emotional landscape arises with it. It’s broad and layered.
The lyrics for this song are amazing. They were written by the poet Sjon. I wish they had collaborated even more often, because all the lyrics he's written for her are perfect.
Always Bjork sounds like she is in studio. Buy the live CDs and you will never regret this. Trust me. It is like you are listening an official album and better cause it is from live performances
I love that at a certain point Bjork's voice becomes just another instrument, not overpowering anything but becoming part of the wave. Whoever is mixing this did such a beautiful job balancing her voice with the string arrangement.
No love for "Go Go Smear the Poison Ivy?" Let's be honest, they're all so damn good. I fear we won't see their like again in this age. It's all downhill from here.
Hah, I think this video is about the time I started to get it too! Lots of her music is still a bit much for me, but this particular version of this particular song is one of my all-time favorites now.
All these accidents That happen Follow the dot Coincidence Makes sense Only with you You don't have to speak I feel Emotional landscapes They puzzle me Then the riddle gets solved And you push me up to this State of emergency How beautiful to be State of emergency Is where I want to be All that no-one sees You see What's inside of me Every nerve that hurts You heal Deep inside of me, oo-oohh You don't have to speak I feel Emotional landscapes They puzzle me confuse Then the riddle gets solved And you push me up to this State of emergency How beautiful to be State of emergency Is where I want to be State of emergency How beautiful to be Emotional landscapes They puzzle me Then the riddle gets solved And you push me up to this State of emergency How beautiful to be State of emergency Is where I want to be State of emergency How beautiful to be State of emergency State of, state of How beautiful Emergency Is where I want to be State of emergency How beautiful to be State of emergency Is where I want to be State of emergency How beautiful to be
yesterday i showed this video to my great grandmother. she was moved to tears and said that Björk's voice, movements and sweetness reminds her of her mom. this is just one of those moments i'll never forget.
Björk is light years ahead of our time with her music! I found her as a 13yr old male. I’m now 34 and I still love Björk! I’m glad I was born in this time period to experience her music!
Exactly the same with me. I was 14 when im cherished by her and now im almost 34. I love the way she presents and lives the music... The masterpieces...
@@ezgikaya3896 I agree with you 100% I'm heavy into hip hop music, I play basketball, etc. If you saw me... you'd never guess I'm a huge fan. She's an artist I truly appreciate!
Her music is oddly nostalgic to me…. I discovered her about 16 years ago when I was in high school but the funny thing is obviously her songs are way older than the mid 2000 😅 so I was listening to her 90s albums as a teenager feeling highly nostalgic to something I haven’t encounter before but yet felt like I’ve been listening to her forever Flash forward to now …. It’s still surreal how many years it was *actually* been since she released this album 😂 and yet the nostalgia I feel now is more towards 16 years ago when I felt like the coolest high school kid in southern Texas where only less than.5% of the population knew who bjork was 😅 what an era !!!
Dont know why this woman isnt loved by everyone. This song got me into bjork many years ago, and this must be the best live version of this song Ive heard. Amazing woman.
All these accidents, 모든 사고들. That happen, Follow the dot, Coincidence, 우연의 일치로 일어난 Makes sense, 오직 너에게만 Only with you, 일어날 수 있는 일들에 대해서 You don't have to speak, 넌 말할 일요 없어 I feel. 나는 느끼게 돼 / Emotional landscapes, 감정의 풍경 They puzzle me, 그것들은 나를 어지럽게 만들어 Then the riddle gets solved, 그리고 그 수수께끼들이 풀리는가 싶으면 And you push me up to this 날 이 곳으로 밀어넣어 / State of emergency, 긴급상황... How beautiful to be, 정말 아름다운 곳.. State of emergency, 긴급상황... Is where I want to be. 바로 내가 있고 싶은 곳... / All that no-one sees, 아무도 보지 못하는 것을 You see, 너는 보고 What's inside of me, 내 안에 Every nerve that hurts, 손상된 모든 신경들을 You heal, 너는 치료해준다 Deep inside of me, oo-oohh, 내 안에서 깊이.. You don't have to speak, 너는 말할 필요 없어 I feel. 나는 느끼게 돼 / Emotional landscapes, 감정의 풍경 They puzzle me - confuse, 그것들은 나를 혼란스럽게 해 Then the riddle gets solved, 그리고 수수깨끼들이 풀리는가 싶으면 And you push me up to this 넌 다시 나를 이곳에 밀어 넣어
Lol. I've noticed it in all the live performances. I just think it's a little quark of hers. I've probably seen other artists do it too. It's got to be a freedom of movement thing.
even though i've known about bjork for years, i am only recently discovering her music now. listening to homogenic for the first time absolutely broke me. bjork is an artist in full.
I remember seeing this episode repeated in about 1999. I think she performed this, Hunter and Bachelorette. I had never had any interest in Bjork prior to that day, but I was blown away by all three songs. They still sound great today. I don’t love everything she’s done, but she can hit heights few others can come close to. This performance is a good example.
@@Jim26D I agree, except for Vulnicura - I was going through similar experiences to what she went through with her husband, and that album touched a nerve with me.
Such a sublime live performance of Jóga. The guy in frame, to the right of her, at 1:40, hand under his chin, seems completely transfixed on her voice and presence. He gets it.
She squeezes so much out of a single word like emotional. It's insane. Then she tears even more out of the word can when she sings can the riddle get solved. Amazing vocals that cut through you every time.
Same. I was born '98. Peak era. Dad would listen to Black sabbath and Zep.. and then put on her Greatest Hits (2002) album... i remember vividly, this song, and Possibly Maybe featuring heavily in our day to day life.. no matter what musical pathways I take I ALWAYS come back to this woman. 💜

so emotionally potent. i love how she colors her studio recordings and think her work is so groundbreaking sonically but at the same time it’s a true testament to her talent that you can strip everything away and you’re still left with this raw and beautiful work of art
This is my favorite Bjork song. And this performance just exemplifies all the qualities that make her so wonderful as a vocal musician. Timing, control, pitch, tone... I don't think there was one wrong note despite the complexity of the phrasing. She's just a wonderful artist that doesn't nearly get the credit she deserves.
Very different and unique for the 90s era which had a certain musical direction. She went in a completely different direction while still keeping that Sugercube vibe about her. Very abstract and childlike. I guess she was the 90s equivalent of Kate Bush in a way.
She's literally better than she's ever been live right now. She's a powerhouse and right now she seems completely unfettered and unencumbered. It's a sight to behold for sure.
I love seeing Bjork live. She genuinely feels and enjoys what she´s singing. The way she smiles everytime she says "emotional landscapes", how she moves with the rhythms and marks the tempo of the song with every gesture. It's really a beautiful scene to watch, and a lesson on how to live, maybe.
Bjork's music improves with time and experience. Having worked with some very experienced colleagues, she is well able to sustain complex and musically challenging material regardless of production conditions. Others need a truck load of electronics and special effects but Bjork re-pitches and adjusts her dynamics to work with a simple string ensemble such as this one. Whereas the studio version of Joga (made at her own studio in Spain) is on an epic/saga scale a great song is a great song. Here it and its creator perform in considerate and respectful concert with other musicians. That is one definition of being a great musician.
...ok the mix is little different concerning the volume placement. But for sure all these recorded tracks are from the album version. All the fine significant parts are "on board"! 😊😊❤🎉
beautiful vocals and tone range. what I love about her is that she explores the nature and human condition within her music, so its relevant to anyone who struggles to see their own light or make sense of their own emotions.
wow , ich höre gerne punk , aber das hat mich sehr , wow in meiner seele verewigt , einfach super schöner song , ich liebe ihn , genial gesungen eine der besten musikerinnen die es gibt , björk ein name, best
I only just recently started listening to her music about two months ago, and I've been obsessed since. Like I've been waiting my whole life to hear music that touches me the way her voice does. Truly a gifted artist who deserves praise.
Ojalá las chicas de hoy dua, Taylor, miley, Ariana y demás basura tuvieran ese talento, la clase, la voz, la creatividad, capacidad artística, sensualidad y carisma de este maravilloso genio femenino

She’s amazing. Been to her beautiful country. Saw feckin Mel Gibson there Iwas leaving the breakfast room as he was coming in. He held the door. Was in a lift with his son. Sweet boy. Very polite and interesting. July 2008.
❤️ A few decades back and during some difficult moments while living on Vancouver Island, I remember listening to this Bjӧrk composition on replay. It's funny how a piece of music can carry the listener through some difficult times. 🌸
