I was shocked the consensus was for the trophy truck. The power to weight ratio on the bug makes it very tough to beat. My first car was a superbeetle (which I modified heavily) and it had some of the highest smiles per mile of any car I have ever owned... Just don't ever get in an accident in one. Back then car safety meant it had a seatbelt 😂

My favorite Baja story is how one year, some guy bought a top spec truck to race and somehow got Armin Schwartz, the rally driver to drive it. After the first day, they were leading by such a huge margin that Armin asked the owner if he wanted to drive for a while. He managed to drive it into a lake. In the middle of the Baja desert. A lake.
