Thank you for introducing us to BJU Press. I was so hesitant to try it, then when we had a little one I knew I couldn't do it all. Wow, what a blessing DLO has been for us. We're on our second year with it. Lord willing I'd love to stick with it all the way through!
I started using BJU this year for English 2 and Science 2. We are loving it too! My daughter loves the English assignments and I love that because she’s a very independent reader and learner, she does Science almost completely on her own. ❤️ It’s very helpful because I also have a 10 month old to corral while we do school. 😂
We have 3 kids. The youngest is the first one to use this specific BJU English this year. My oldest as they watch the youngest go through this English 2 have noted that they wish they had this English when they were in 2nd Grade.
We are using this edition and is great. Instructional Aids and Review prints for each lesson provided in the CD on the back of the TE are very helpful and provide plenty of practice.
Thank you for this review... can I use this curriculum with an IEW style of writing? So, can go through the curriculum with my daughter modifying it where I can using the IEW method for writing? I am considering this BJU press for my daughter because of the biblical foundation and I think it'll be a good fit.... but I really like IEW's method for writing...I just don't like that it seems like IEW doesn't have a script for parents to say when teaching (is that accurate?).
I appreciate all of your BJU reviews. They really are so helpful 🙂 I want so badly to try out this curriculum, but I’m torn because of the price. If you had to choose only 1-2 subjects from BJU, which ones would you go with? I have three littles who are 2 and under, as well as a soon to be 3rd grader, and I know just having a couple subjects from this company would give me a much needed little break during school days.
I am trying to decide between Fix it Grammar and BJU Press English 2 for my son. He needs short lessons and does not enjoy school. I know you have used both curriculums. Do you have a preference between the two for an elementary student?
Both are excellent. English 2 incorporates grammar and writing. Fix It! Grammar is just grammar. If your son is in 2nd grade then I'd suggest English 2 using the parent-led option and move through it as slowly as you need to. We are taking several days to do one lesson and one worksheet right now and it is working great. I love Fix It! Grammar but it might be too much for a 2nd grader. I usually start it in 3rd or even 4th grade. Hope that helps.
Yes, the teacher guide is important especially for the writing portions and any area your child might struggle in that needs extra reinforcement. I don't always use the teacher guide as some of the lessons are pretty easy to teach without it but I have needed to reference it for the writing portions and for some fun ways to reinforce harder topics.
