I am from live in the US in the state of Oregon and I can't tell you how much you have helped me learn about my car and how much money it has saved me watching your videos... please keep posting, I am a big fan!
Hey Paul, Thank so much for sharing your video its been a big help mate. Also more importantly Id like to wish you all the best with your recovery from surgery and treatment. Cheers Tone🙏
Hello Paul, i'm Axel, I'm from Guatemala. I have a mazda 3 2013, My hand-brake was a bit loose lately, i know for a fact that my break pads are still in good shape so now thanks to this i'll have a look at that bolt under the cup holder... THANKS A LOT, easy, simple and straight to the point, keep it goin'!
Thanks Paul. I've got a 2011 Mazda here in Canada and my driver side cable actually broke off at the caliper, and while I was happy to park the car in 1st gear and utilize that passenger rear brake - the HB is now very sloppy and doesn't apply the pass. brake pad any more. Thanks so much for the video, I'll hopefully be able to get it tightened back up and working again!
I'm glad I could help you @pbakai182. I'd feel more comfortable if you got the broken cable replaced. If you are having trouble locating one in Canada then let me know, and I can remove the cable from the car in the video and post it to you. Paul in Perth, Australia.
@@PaulinPerth That's a very kind offer - I can source it locally. New is ~$75 AUD, surely could snag one from a scrap yard much cheaper! I need to replace a heatshield or two, any way 😅😅
I'm in Wanneroo 😂 I also watched your vid to replace the brake boot cover. I was simply looking to get into that space under the handbrake because my thumb drive popped out of my pocket, landed at the foot of the handbrake, and when I tried to pick it up that part at the foot of the handbrake being soft/floppy, the thumb drive went down, inside the car! 😅 But now, watching your vids, I'm going to change my split boot cover, adjust my handbrake, and probably change my brake pads, too. Bloody thumb drive 😂😂 Cheers for your very helpful, well presented video. Sorry to see your health problems. Best of luck 👍
Cheers mate, nice easy to follow demo and loving the Aussie accent. Many thanks from Sunny Scarborough ,North Yorkshire UK. Fairer than fair dinkum.Kindest regards, Paul.
Thanks for the tips, i'm just replacing the rears today and will check. Some other guy suggested as well to pull the spring back on the calliper so it's extended because they can get stuck apparently. Im a rookie from Canada.
Hi Paul, i Have a bm mazda 3 and i adjusted the nut awhile ago but now its loose again, ive tried to tighten again but the nut doesnt go down further or back up, any Suggestions?
Hi Lucas, it is quite uncommon. I've personally never had to replace a cable due to stretching that could not be adjusted out. Although I am aware that it sometimes happens. One previous commenter on this video indicated that he snapped one side of this cable at the calliper end. At the calliper end, there is a stop-block crimped onto the high-tensile wire. If that comes off, then that side of the hand-brake cable is screwed. If the vehicle is treated normally, it is pretty much impossible for the cable to stretch to the point of being unable to be adjusted out. When I first learned to drive in 1987, I had an old Toyota Corona RT104. You've seen my videos, so imagine me as a 17 year old. I found an open gravel pit, and I started learning how to do handbrake turns going forwards first, and then in reverse. By the end of that day I had learned how to do handbrake turns, and I had slightly stretched my handbrake cable. It went maybe two clicks higher that at the start of the day. I could easily have just adjusted it out, and as I recall, that is what I did. So unless you have a teenage son who is going to do many. many days of handbrake turns, then you are unlikely to stretch a cable to to the point that you can't adjust it back to normal. However, the fact that a commenter has written to me to indicate that he broke one side of his cable: well, I'd say that is a more likely danger. I hope that helps. Paul in Perth, Australia.
Hello from Georgia, USA...my rear-right brake groans when I go in reverse. Brake pads and rotor are in good condition and working fine. I wondered if you had any thoughts on what is causing that? When I operate the hand brake the groan goes away so I'm curious what aspect may be in need of servicing?
The part of you car that needs looking at is the rear right brakes. It could be that the pad isn't seated quite properly, or that a little rock has got caught up in there, but only makes a noise when rolled backwards, but not forwards. It doesn't sound hard to fix. Just have a mechanic inspect it.
There is a fourth issue. When you pull the lever, the (P) light shows the e-brake is on but it's NOT! The actuators at the rear calipers just don't move!
