Hi Ruben Yes I'm very happy with the BLA350 it's a fantastic and easy to use Amp once you know how to use it, with regards RTTY No I've not used it on digital modes only SSB but I would think if you have a very good air flow you shouldn't have any problems with the Amp on digital modes.
HI Ross not sure some people say earth everything some say don't so in the end its down to you, I have all of my equipment earthed and hopefully it help's plus I use ferrite clips on all my leads and they do work, so in the end you have to see what help's at your location, this is an old video 8 years plus I have 2 BLA350 now one here in the uk and one in bulgaria they are good if you can pick them up cheap like I have. 73's take it easy.
@@M0AOV Hi, thanks for your reply, I have been going through the bonding and grounding process as seen in the GM3SEK lecture for the RSGB 'Clean up your shack' , which is on youtube (chaining all my gear together one to the other with copper braid) I came across your video and noticed in the description you have said to earth the amp, I wondered if you noticed a difference yourself by doing so ? I am using a mains shack filter with two chokes and the choked earth then runs to the back of my radio and connects up at the DC ground, I have been experimenting with earthing some of my kit to an earth block which is fixed to the shack desk and goes out to a copper ground rod and I have noticed a considerable amount of TX power increase showing on my vswr meter, if I connect the amp body to the earth block on the desk with a length of copper braid.
@@hamradiostation_M0UGE Hi Ross that's just how I have my Radio gear all connected but for me it get's ride of some of the qrm I get from chinese power supplies that spew RF all over the place, every shack will work in different ways to other's something that might work in mine may not work in yours and vise versa, but as long as your bla350 is working as it should and with 8w to 10w that's good not 100% sure with your black bla350 if they sorted the ALC setup as I only have the blue ones, the bla350 are good amp's for the price.
@@M0AOV Oh that's interesting, Yes I was wiping the boiler out at my QTH ,I was also bleeding over in to my childrens computer headsets, until I discovered the RSGB video and cured it using the mains shack filter and a 1:1 fair-rite choke on the coax, all works well now and my computer monitor doesn't switch on and off by itself HI I don't use the ALC setting on the BLA, I just run the PTT from the radio and set the radio at 10 watts, I see that when running 10 watts, I'm getting 330 ish watts out at the peaks I don't understand why the BLA has a TX error which appears occasionally -SWR HIGH 3.0+ , when my antenna is showing 1.1 SWR with only half a watt of reflected power !?!?!
@@hamradiostation_M0UGE It sounds like they didn't re do there manual I think it still says you can use up to 15 watts, but I've found you can only use 8 watts really you might get away with 10 watts but you just have to test your Amp to see what's best for you I only use 8 Watts at all time and not had the TX error in years, With your FTDX101 try to remember to only set it at 8 watts and you should have no TX error problems at all and with your Ultrabeam it's 1.1 on all your bands so you know there are NO swr problems, enjoy the Amp
