Good morning. I know, the subject is 8 years old but I am soon considering purchasing a BLA 350 amplifier which I find really great for FT8/FT4. My first question (I also have an FT991A which is connected to an MFJ 939). In menu 141 I selected the "external" position because the TRX is connected directly to the tuning box. 2nd question: When I acquire the BLA 350, should I connect the TRX to the amplifier, then connect the amplifier to the tuning box? In this case, do I have to go to menu 141 and stay in the "external" position or put menu 141 on "lamp". Thank you for your response. Kind regards 73's. Joel/F8MGW
Hi Joel ok here goes You need the AATU that can do more than the AMP can put out i.e. 600WATTS, I have menu 141 OFF, I use my RADIO then AMP then AATU, Tune up the FT991A with the AMP turned OFF use from 5watts all the way to 100watts then you will know that everything is TUNED with the Antenna, Turn the Power DOWN to 8 watts NO more then Turn the AMP on then go and test the AMP, Have a look at this video it will give you some idea of how to connect everything up if you need any more information regarding your FT991 and the BLA350 let me know and I'll help in any way I can, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CO1HzyRV2Bc.html

HI george the answer is NO it's trial and error setting things up some times it takes months even years to get things just how you want it to be, i.e. how you want your Audio to sound but once done save all your setting just in case you start to PLAY again to see if you can get the audio sounding any better, it's good fun, I've got my audio just as I want the Audio Gear to sound and now I never touch the audio gear it's left just as it is now.

Hi Mark the Video was made 6 years ago on a old Mobile phone also the video was not made for YOU it was made for me which all my video's are just to remind me what I did, also Even though the video is OLD I can clearly see the video with out any problems so you must have such a great PC to watch video's from RU-vid or your eye's must be playing tricks with you, Enjoy the information on my video's or don't
I do not have an external SWR meter such as you do in this video. I just rely on my internal SWR meter on the the radio however I do have a question about my analog meter on my radio. I have the IC-7300. This IC-7300 has an analog meter. When I set my IC-7300 to 100 watts and key up my mic the forward power is suppose to show 100 watts of forward power being put out however my analog meter shows only 35 watts of forward power being put out. What do you think could be causing such a huge discrepancy between the 100 watts the IC-7300 is set to and and the actual amount of forward power (35watts) that is being put out?
Hi just to check with you are you using AM or FM when checking your SWR and POWER out put ?? if your doing AM then I think that's about right but if it's FM then you might have a problem, I don't have enough information or if you can do a video I can have a look which will help with what ever I post here because I could be totally wrong
@@BlackHamRadioUniversity If you want to see what your out put power is, is to use a meter that will show you PEP your radio will only show you AVERAGE power which will show you around 35watts or around that power, check your power out put on FM with 100% power drive and you will see on a SWR meter with power set up, on power showing it should show around 100W

Hi Carmine Pascucci I always have the internal ATU turned off on all radio's the external ones like the LDG can cope better than the Internal ones so the answer would be NO the ATU's are only used on HF and 6M, no atu is used on 2m or 70cms it was just that the AGC was turned off somehow but someone gave me the heads up and I turned it back on, I never knew it would be turned OFF on the FT991
My FT-991A has the same issue as far as a signal reading on 2 meters, however you're radio is not supposed to have a carrier when transmitting on single sideband. On AM or FM modes yes, but not on LSB or USB! The carrier is suppressed on sideband and then reinserted by the receiving station's radio. "Very 73 de KU4GW"
Hi Gilles I'm not sure I've never tested the AMP on 11m so I can not really help you there BUT depending where you are on 11m I can not see why it won't set on 10m section
@@M0AOV Many thanks for your kind answer. I just want to make sure I can use it from 27 to 28.9 Mhz before I purchase one as I only use an expanded (export) CB radio so mainly on the 11 meter. Cheers and 73!
@@gc12gladiator just keep an eye on the input i.e. don't use more then around 8 - 9 watts max, you can pick the BLA350 at good prices my last one I got for £260 so not bad and I use it in my Bulgaria QTH so they are good , 73
@@M0AOV yes I will. Thank you for the tip. I should be able to input a max of 5 to 8 watts in the linear so no worries there and my SWR is low across the frequencies I use most. 260£ is a great price! In the UK they mostly sell new for around 700£! Cheers to you!
The ATAS-120A antenna is a 40m maximum antenna. It was never meant to tune on 80m, and the radio will refuse to go into tune mode when on 80m. As you understand, bonding is important, but so is a choke balun to prevent RF from riding back into the radio.
Thanks for the video (I know it was a while back). I'm getting a used Expert SUNSDR Dx (it's on its way). Now you said two receivers, that is that it has 2 software receivers, as opposed to 2 hardware receivers. Is this correct? With two hardware receivers the possibility of diversity reception with the appropriate software update (and 2 antennas). Thanks, and 73 de WA3RSL
Hi Frank have a look at this link it will give you the information you need and should answer your 2nd question also eesdr.com/en/products-en/transceivers-en/sunsdr2dx-en
The RJ45 on MIC2 of the SunSDR2DX is not connected to my Mixer, thats system is for ESSB and is connected to the Audio Rack gear then to the MIXER then the iBox then the FT2000 I have lot's of different audio gear connected to different Radio's. are you trying to connect a RJ45 to some Radio Gear???
HI Steven I think your going to use everything in a system totally different system than for Ham Radio so I have no idea how you would set everything up we only do this Audio Setup for Ham Radio.
Glad you like my setup, when I use my Sunsdr2dx the interface is on another screen so I have no problem looking at it when working the radio, it's all down to how your shack is setup for your equipment, this video is just to help with information nothing else and hopefully it might help.
Hi Kevin Z what you need to do is buy the radio or something like it and a cb antenna and get the radio moded so it works on cb band thats all, easy really loads of cb'ers have these kind of radio's on cb bands.

Check on PAGE 5 it tells you how to update the DSP make sure everything else is up to date or you will have to update the MAIN and TFT and the SDP if they are not, Hope this help's. Hi Silver with the audio connections YES but you need something like a iBox or a iPlus box something that can change the audio down to line level so you audio is ok for your radio.
thanks for this info, I have both the pr781 and just got the ft991a, it would be nice if there were an audio sample in the video, but thats ok, thanks for putting this together, 73
Settings are the same you just don't get the same kind of Audio quality, the fist mike is ok if you have nothing else to use but if you want really good audio you use studio mike sound loads better.
Thank's for the post Martin nice radio and software from Russia one of the best SDR radio's out there, it all depends what you want and what you want to pay i.e. for software upgrades SUNSDR is FREE and FLEX you pay to upgrade to a new version number at the moment it's version 3, I like Flex and I like the Sunsdr Radio's. Disconnect the antenna and you will see the different responses on the S meter as you change the values , regarding attenuation I just use the rf gain .
Hi there. What is the max transmit bandwidth? Also, I run a large out board audio rack currently with my flex 5000. The rack terminates into the balanced line input on the back of the flex. Where would I input that equipment in the sunsdr2 dx?
Hi DOUG I'll check when I'm on the Radio tomorrow what the full BW is I use anything from 3K to 6K depending who I'm talking to and Signals between us, I use different Audio input in to the radio but with my Audio Rack I use a iPLUS from w2ihy if to the front Mic2 in the front of the radio there are lot's of ways you can add Audio and Audio gear in to the SunSDR2-DX radio it's down to you, SO Audio Rack to Mic2 or even Headset in to the PC out to Mic 1 of the sunSDR2-DX and use the 10 band EQ from the radio or even Headset Mic from the PC to Audio Gear Prog on the PC then out put the eq'd Audio from the PC out to Mic1 of the Radio there are so many ways to add your Audio, Hope this help's 73's

Ive been told that my TX audio has a bit too much bass. I have a lower voice, and am running a Heil PR-40. So what setting might assist in getting the bass lowered?
Not sure what your setting are plus if you have any other equipment connected to your radio ??? if just your PR40 and the FT991 then look at your EQ's look at the low's and bring them down a little then look at around 1.5k on the EQ's and listen to your audio when you put it up higher that will bring the LOW's Down less base and bring the high's up more that should sort but make sure you listen to your own audio on WEBSDR site or another radio but make sure you listen to the radio using the same TX bandwidth you use if 2.9 make sure the other radio has the same bandwith, also it will depend on what you sound like so lot's to check out when changing Audio, hope some of this help's.

Well it looked to me that your hand held radio was in FM mode and your FT 991 was in USB so , no your not likely to see a carrier.. put both radios in the same mode and meter will indicate a signal of that mode.. I tried it.. Also I rarely operate with the IPO amp on. Radio really doesn't need it for most of your contacts.. more so on the higher bands.. 73
where your signal is at the top right click there and at the bottom it will say show the power meter, I'm not in front of my radio but will do another video showing what you have asked showing how it's done.

Have had the 826B for a long time, imported from the US, has been reliable and seems reasonably accurate. The peak hold of course means you can store incriminating readings for posterity... only niggle with mine was loose fastenings inside so needed to be reassembled when it arrived. And yes I do have 7 Bird Thrulines too... my example has survived more than 1500w PEP. Does not stop me wanting an LP100A though....
