Update 8/29/24: I moved and no longer live in Laredo anymore! Not sure what the algorithm is doing but this video is 2 years old and getting traction LOL. But hopefully this video will help those who are and have moved to the area as of late. This is just my opinion and as I mentioned, it's what you make it! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions! :)
A lot of people don’t realize that there was a huge Black community in Laredo during the early part of the 20th century - and a lot of Laredoans have Black blood in them and don’t even know it. I am born and raised in Laredo and am part Black - I attended Howard University in D.C. - also lived in New York and am teaching here now at United South High School.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING HOW IT IS TO LIVE IN LAREDO, TEXAS, HOPEFULLY THEY WILL LET MORE STORES AND MARKETS COME INTO, LAREDO. THANK GOODNESS THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS. MY DAUGHTER AND HER FAMILY VISITED, BEAUMONT, TEXAS A FEW YEARS AGO AND SHE SAID THAT THE HEAT IS RIDICULOUSLY HOT♨️ THEY HAD A NICE TIME BUT WAS HAPPY TO COME BACK TO VIRGINIA. TROY IS TALKING, HE'S ADORABLE. MAY GOD BLESSINGS,COURAGE AND STRENGTH CONTINUE TO BE WITH YOUR FAMILY ALWAYS 🙂💖🙏🙏🙏
Being born and raised in Laredo, Texas, I began to see other cultures other than Hispanic culture, I've began to notice more southern culture. Even then the Hispanics of Laredo do have southern habits, because each time I speak to anyone outside of Laredo like an example, a person from the state of Alabama. They'll tell me about how things are slow, and relaxed. With fishing, hunting and other activities that would somewhat associate with the south. Afterwards I realized just how much of that culture has been either integrated or adopted here in Laredo.
😢😢 It's probably going from large city living to small town living. It truly is a big difference and hard to adjust to and people don't understand that. That's been my struggle, growing up and moving from large, metro areas to a small, isolated area. 😭 It hasn't gotten easier for me. You're not alone sis!!
Was born in Laredo in 1959 moved to S.A. at 6yrs old and returned to Laredo in my late teens through my 20s. Lived and worked on mines rd. It was what I'd call a small town then but has become a very developed city now.
Awww thankss girl!! Girl if I can warn people to stay away from Mines Road, I've done my job LOL!! Are you in my facebook group? I would love to connect with you while here!! :)
lived in Laredo 7 years, traffic is great except on holidays and special events on San Bernardo St. The traffic then will be terrible on I35 and near areas, most of the time you can cross around the city in 15 to 20 mins unless you go from south to north. Best mexican food for sure. Laredo is just a little extension of Mexico.
i honestly have lots of fun goinf to the pulga, thrifting, going to the lake and target ive lived here all my life and once you stop listening to ppl complaining abt laredo it starts becoming fun again tbh there is tons of stuff to do you just gotta look around for it yk?
Hello my Tejas daughter. I think you have the best of both world, living in a big city and now in a smaller town. Hope your kids are taking spanish and other languages that enable them to travel abroad. You're doing a great job sweetie!!!!!
Yesss definitely getting to experience both worlds has been something else! But I can't complain!! We are all working on our Spanish so I can't wait to have convos with them in Español lol!
Growing up in Laredo there was like 4 blk people that I knew of…and it’s hot as hell…this place is still stuck in 1990 ! And tell people not to go across the border it’s not safe!! You’re also on point describing this place! Great job ma’am 🎉😊
I live in La Bota on Mines rd where we bought our first house after renting for 13 years on McPherson by H-E-B plus and girl you’re not wrong on the traffic! Accidents on Mines rd every day lol i dont regret it but the traffic for someone who has traffic anxiety Huge mistake

Thank you so much for sharing your perspective. I have been searching for doulas in the city as I prepare for motherhood in the future, it doesn’t seem to be accessible. Thank you for sharing this information, I do look forward to your doula business as it is definitely very necessary in the city. Would love to have a woman of God by my side when it’s time to bring life. God Bless!
Awww Lydia!! You're so welcome girl!! I think there's one here now already but I don't know her. I'm hoping I can make a difference once I launch mine soon so be on the lookout! :D
Hi Chris, thanks for your advice last time my wife delivered a beautiful girl before 2 weeks god bless her , now I have 3 beautiful daughters have a good day ( thanks for sharing this video)
@@thechrissiewise amazing 😻 love my third girl 👧 she always wants to sleep on my arms 😂 , that is amazing, I grow up with 5 sisters and I know how to deal with girls because I am elder brother 🤓
@glorygirlforgodtv2190 Great idea! I don't know any owners directly but I do make it a point when I go out, look around to see who are the owners, I've always had something in my gut to go speak to these owners. I think you just figured that out for me. Will see, but man would I love to see something like that!!! I think in my former life, I was a club owner, every time I go in a club, my first scan is the layout of a club and how can it be better. Will see what the universe manifests 🙏🏼
Girl thank god I found someone down in laredo! We are a family of 4 might be moving to laredo soon for my husband's work. Any area you can recommend for nice family home area newer built? Your house seems nice too.....btw I can't belive they have no traders joe or sephora! Any good quality grocery store u can recommend similar to traders or Publix?
Awww this makes me happy!! Safe travels on the way down!! As far as living goes, there are really nice places more so on the North side and Central Laredo. Depending on your budget, there's an development called The Loop, really nice homes with fairly good prices. Winfield is pretty nice, Khaledi Heights...if you want you can join my facebook group and I can share more for you! facebook.com/blackalongtheborder When it comes to grocery, they only have a bunch of H-E-B and one H-E-B Plus. They don't have any organic stores here and the organic sections in the stores are small!! 😭 I know there is a farmers market that happens monthly I think, but I'm not sure if it's still going on or not!
@@thechrissiewise aww thanks for the info Chris! I didn't actually msg you on fb but not sure if you seen it. Any schools you can recommend? Specifically private school. I have a 10 year old and 8 year old. I see united school and seems nice. Also I'm sooo scared of bugs spiders! Is there alot down there???
Awww I love Frederick!! It's so country and slower than other parts of MD! I'm sure it's a major transition compared to Houston! Do you visit DC or Baltimore often?
It's so funny to me to listen to others talk about my hometown, and they say EXACTLY what I (and most of us) think about it😂 it's boring and very slooow😩
😅 HAHAHA!! YOU FORGOT TO MENTION: IF YOU WANT YOUR VEHICLE CRASHED ONCE A YEAR THEN MOVE TO MINES ROAD 😂😂 LOL I LIVED HERE FOR 25 YEARS I HONESTLY JUST GOT USED TO IT BECAUSE BACK THEN OT WAS NOT THIS BAD..LOL..OH WELL! ONCE MY DAUGHTER GRADUATES WE ARE HEADING TO NEW BRAUNFELS TAXES ARE CRAZY HERE.
Trying to convince my husband to make the BIG move to Texas🎉 (not necessarily laredo) lol we're in New Jersey right now and I'm originally from Atlanta and moved up here to be with him and we gave ourselves 5 years which is like NOW and now he dragging his feet! 🙄 what made you guys decide to leave the northeast period... Oh nevermind you just said your husband's work lol
Can anyone help me pronounce xitlali, that was my best friends name before she died, and the reason I don’t know how it was pronounced was because she always wanted to be called by avi. But this is her home town ❤
Hey girl I used to live in Laredo but ain’t nothing out there, it’s boring and HOT!! A lot of store are permanently closed, the only things out there in only warehouses and there is a lot of abandoned places. The only thing good out there is the food. I couldn’t do it so as soon as I could I moved back to my home town of Houston. You should move outta there at least go to San Antonio if you wanna live around the border. If not come to H Town.
I just got moved to Laredo for the military. I haven’t watched the video completely yet so maybe you will answer this later but I’m in a panic lol are there any hair places for us?
Heyyy girl! Sorry just now seeing this!! Thank you for your service!! No, there aren't any black salons for us here! 😭 You have to go to San Antonio to get your hair done or do your own hair from home like I do!! There is a guy named Nasir that does hair for black people here! I can connect you to him if you would like!
You were just being nice lol. Laredo is boring. I would say it might be perfect for anyone who is looking a small city to live in tranquility. Can't say the same about the other side. The other side didn't used to be like how it is now. I'm sure you would've liked how Nuevo Laredo was like back then. That's where people used to go for entertainment. Me personally, I'm uneasy about going to Nuevo Laredo. I don't know how everything is over there these days. But in Nuevo Laredo there would be events that are missing in Laredo. Granted those events are Mexican, but still. There was/is lucha libre, bullfighting, circuses, Parque Viveros, and there would also be ferias. I remember in Feria Expomex there used to be some Romani Mexican people who had an attraction for the visitors that featured ridiculous but entertaining "animales fenómenos". That's what I would recommend if it's not bad on the other side anymore. There's are also other more recreational activities in the surrounding Texas areas more country oriented such as hunting, fishing, and even the Freer Rattlesnake roundup. Some of those might make some people question wherever they're ethic or not. Including one other unmentioned but questionable source of entertainment. All in all it's more like a nice little place if what's you're seeking for is just a place to retreat. I've said this myself about the food too. If you're living there you need to establish your people with who you all share your Sunday weekly carne asada.
Thanks for sharing! :) I was being honest...yes it is boring compared to most cities in Texas but there are still things you can do if you don't want to drive out of town which we do occasionally. Some people enjoy small city living and I can see why.
I was raised in Laredo and I love my city very much! I moved about 3 years ago to a bigger city with my little family. I visit Laredo at least 3 times a year my family is currently still living there. Unfortunately, one of the reasons why I left was because career wise it wasn’t working for us. You either need connections or need experience to get a decent job. Another thing was that there’s not much to do there. Thank you for sharing 💕 Although, I will say Laredo has AMAZING food!!! I do miss that so much! I highly recommend going to have brunch at the restaurant called Los Jacales, if you haven’t been. It’s one of my favorites since I was a little girl. The people there are the sweetest! Also there’s a Salvadoran restaurant called El sombrero azul my family back home and I have been going there for years. It’s delicious!!! I love how honest you’re speaking about your experience living in Laredo. I would love to chat with you! I just discovered your channel and I love it ❤️ Here’s my instagram @jacqueline_dragon
