My DNA test came up with Senegambia and Guinea Bissau. I agree with you that these are the primary ethnicities, however, the genetic makeup of Cape Verdeans is more complex than that. The genetics differ from island to island and the Cape Verdean genetics is a result of the admixture of four parental populations: Iberian Peninsula, West Africa, North Africa and the Sephardic Jewish population. My grandfather was supposed to be half portugese. Now in the United states census he is listed as black. However he never identified as a black man in any way. So my father took an ancestory test and found he is almost a fifth African. There is no confirmation my grandpa was cape verdean but the signs point towards it.
