We as Black people, we need help.

Cape Verdon women are African. They just happen to be on the Island of Cape Verdon. They are very confused by colonialism. We have differences as a culture, but we are all African. To whites they are viewed as black or African.

Sis with the strip shirt was very informed, self aware and had a great vibe.

The Portuguese and the Spanish has really captured the minds of the people in their past and present Colonies. It's some kind of mental conditioning for a people to not know who they are. Nevertheless, I liked their honesty.

They are so blinded that they can't even see the African in them.

The same kind of thing going on in the Spanish speaking Caribbean countries. Many of them don't see themselves as black or African. Even the black people in Brazil are no longer in denial of where they're from.

The young lady in a stripped top is very articulate and bright. Very proud and aware of her identity than most of the interviewees. Great job .

I stopped watching the video from the moment he asked the girl (blacker than him and with curly hair) if she was white. Just to clarify, we Cape Verdeans learned since child that Cape Verde is located in Africa so we are Africans like any other African and on the other hand our country obtained its independence on the basis of pan-Africanism, which is why the largest political Cape Verdean party , the one that ruled the country almost since its independence is called APICV (African party for the independence of Cape Verde) PAICV in Portuguese. And speaking of West Africans, Cape Verde is a West African country, which means that we are also West Africans and we are even part of ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States). 4:05 There at the bottom you can even see the map of Africa drawn on the walls.

I am a West African that has lived in the West for over three decades and I always challenge people of different cultures/ethnicities who immigrate to the West and complain about racism. I do not deny that rascism exist in the West. But we of other cultures also need to look closely at our prejudice towards even ourselves before we accuse others. Because you cannot expect someone who is sooo different from you to accept you entirely when you can’t even accept your neighbour who is close to you in many ways.

This was very interesting and at times comical; quite complicated from my view point. Everyone is my family. Love you All . Cape Verde and her people are Beautiful. Thank you for introducing this Paradise to me.😊

I think it is a shame that this brother asks such questions to young women who are influenced by social media. Why don't you ask the same question to the old generation? First of all thank you for highlighting Cape Verde and their mindset when it comes to social interactions and views ..... especially with people of African descent. listening to their point of view, I find it extremely sad that they are conflicted and in some ways delusional about who they are. The ones you interviewed are clearly African. I found it ironic that one woman referred to Africans as being "black" but she was darker than Willie. I'm hearing parallels with the Cape Verdean mindset to that of many Brazilians, who were also enslaved and colonised by the Portuguese, and the way they feel about themselves. When it comes to slavery, colonisation, exploitation and racism, the Portuguese have a lot to answer for. SMDH.

The perception of various black cultures across the globe in relation to other black cultures is interesting. Some people only know what they see online or in the media as opposed to having an actual experience. As far as dating, as an African American or black American, I’ve dated or engaged with black American men, West Indian and men from different west African countries. Based on experiences, I have a preference, but I have allowed actual experiences shape my thoughts. Not heresy. But people will always have preconceived notions and stereotypes. Great job, Willie! These women are truly beautiful. While living in Florida, I had the opportunity to meet a Cape Verdean woman. Unfortunately, she held an unfavorable attitude towards Black individuals, which was quite off-putting. Thank you for clarifying things.

Im cape verdean im light skinned and im 100% black. Cape verdeans who tell themselves that they are not black are completely lost. But its not just a intern problem is also extern, a lot of other africains dont see us as africains as well .But im glad people like you are doing a good job showing our country and telling our story the right way. The people in the video do not represent all Cape Verdeans. These are complicated questions not sure if these were the right questions to ask, but i think they did a good job answer the questions the best they could despite their young ages. Surprisingly, the oldest woman is the one who said the most stupid things. But anyway hope you doing more videos in Santiago and if possible going to a few others cape verdeans Islands.
