The red flowers are Lycoris radiata, or red spider lilies in English. Their Japanese name is higanbana which is translated equinox flower because they bloom around the fall equinox. There is an association with the land of the dead but I can’t remember what exactly. They are unusual because the flower stalks come up and bloom before the leaves emerge. Most bulbs, like tulips snd daffodils, the leaves come up first and then the flowers.

I can promise a few things over three weeks here….. I would be stunned if you ran into any angry Japanese person. Outward anger and aggression is not the way here. Long as you follow the common sense obvious basic rules you should have an extraordinary time. Make sure to plan good old unscheduled time and of course go to the countryside and hit an onsen Ryokan or two! Enjoy✌️
@TheMartinShowJapan I lived in Kyushu for 20 years but have never spent any time in your inaka. I bought a rail pass before the price went up so plan on exploring the land between Tokyo and Osaka before heading down to Kyushu to visor friends. I always feel free, unencumbered in Japan.
The drone permit is pretty straight forward. Where I live there are abundant places to fly and I also know many farmers that grant me permission. It’s on the MOFAB website.
I'm 45. I would literally move there and grow cucumbers for a living for the rest of my natural life to escape what America will become in 30 years. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. Wow thanks for the insight. The sentiment of your message is shockingly similar to what all my American friends say like 100% of them. I have a wide range of friends from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities. I do dream of home everyday. I plot and scheme….. but these warnings give me pause. Thanks so much for spending so much time watching. I am experimenting with making ‘real’ videos of Japan. Like if you were to come and settle in normal regular (inexpensive) Japan this is what it is like. I could not find a honest representation of the day to day on the internet that was from a semi-neutral perspective. I like Japan because it’s hospitable. Everything else. The shocking natural beauty, food, schools. That is icing. This place is simply “normal” and reasonable
